Watch Final Fantasy XIV shift from alpha to beta [6/26]

A few weeks ago, screenshots of Final Fantasy XIV’s beta version were released showing a significant improvement in visuals over the alpha version. Today, Square Enix released a video showing that same transition in motion.

The biggest difference is definitely the lighting system. It looks marvellous now.

I think the most important change from the alpha to beta is the battle speed. Thankfully the beta's speed is faster and much more tolerable than in the alpha testing. Keeping the alpha's speed would really have been off-putting for people who have just played FFXIII.

that is pretty cool. A is flat and dull while B is bright and detailed. like ps2 to ps3. The A battle speed is so sloooooow. like its loading every attack one by one.

This is the truth. It was the thing that was putting me off FFXIV slightly, the alpha version reminded me too much of FFXII with its speed. But it is looking epic even in its beta stage.
