What artist's music best exemplifies FF or whose music reminds you of FF stylistically? The epic nature of the games, the story lines, characters and the highs and lows of the games.

i would suggest, Arjen Lucassen's music. Its prog rock/metal for the action we see in the games, he creates albums that are whole story lines, has many vocalists playing different characters. Passages are metal and others are folky its all encompassing.

*revives a very interesting thread :D*

As strange as it sounds, I listened to a lot of Seal's second album while grinding Espers (oh dear, that sounds horrible :ness:) in FFVI, and some of the songs there came to grow on me :hmmm: Particularly "Fast Changes," it was a good anthem for the issues many of the characters were dealing with in their personal lives, and the
shift from WOB to WOR
would have been a good time for them to be sitting there evaluating things.

I'm sure I have more, but I can't think of them off the top of my head atm :hmmm:

Gamingway- Thanks for the renewed interest, I was mildly surprised that not more people have chimed in on it.

It also springs to mind the comment that I didn't think "My Hands" was that appropriate for FFXIII. In the future I hope they don't just get a single from a random pop-star. Instead they should choose a song that thematically & lyrically deals with some of the same issues as the game. I think an interesting spin-off thread would be what song should be the theme song for each of the ff titles.

I personally have always liked the dark and exotic music that Paul Oakenfold has made. ...and now that we are seeing more and more of Versus XIII ...I'm totally thinking that some of his music would piece really well with this Final Fantasy especially...althought it would admittedly be very different.

For some of the desert scenes that I know are going to be in the game Southern Sun...but without the singing:

For some of the openings scenes of the game, Zoo York...which has a bit of the theme from Requiem For A Dream:

...and for when they are driving in Noct's car- Ready Steady Go :awesome:

Also...I love this song that's not by Oakenfold, Its from the soundtrack of Plunkett & Macleane...and its called Hanging. For the death scene that I assume is going to happen to someone during the game, since they are saying its supposed to be a tragedy...

Very interesting topic, Ry.

Lots of old Jewel songs remind me of Final Fantasy with their messages.

Like Hands:
If I could tell the world just one thing
It would be that we're all OK
And not to worry 'cause worry is wasteful
And useless in times like these
I won't be made useless
I won't be idle with despair
I will gather myself around my faith
For light does the darkness most fear

To me, it fits a lot of the Final Fantasy games.

Or Innocence Maintained:
We've made houses for hatred
It's time we made a place
Where people's souls may be seen and made safe
Be careful with each other
These fragile flames
For innocence can't be lost
It just needs to be maintained

And there are dozens of more. :D If I think of anyone else I'll be back, and I'm sure I will.

I've always held a strong association of FF VI with Smashing Pumpkins: Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.

In general I think their music has a "fantasy" vibe to it but this set in particular. Maybe leaning more toward the 2nd disc...I think some of the quirky piano and percussion work really tie into some of the odd-ball characters in FF VI.
