What do we know about Squall's family?

Laguna & raine are his mum and dad. Doesn't tell you outright mind, but the hints are obvious enough that even I got it

Raine died giving birth to Squall and Laguna wasn't therte to see it, Ellone tells us that much and that she can no longer get back to that point in time

Also Kiros says it's a good job squall looks like his mother....or something along those lines....
 
He was born in Winhill. His parents were Raine and Laguna, Raine died in childbirth, or not long afterwards, and Laguna was off rescuing Ellone. After that he was sent to the orphanage and he was accepted in to Balamb Garden at 8.
 
Finally someone clarified it, I didn't get it until now. People kept saying Laguna was Squall's dad. But I'm like wtf how it doesn't say or actually reveal that fully in the game. I guess those facts do make it obvious, and the timelines do fit. I just didn't figure it out until now. Yeah I remember Kiros saying that it's a good thing you look like you're mother aboard Ragnarok. NOW I understand.
 
I believe Laguna also said at one point that they should have a talk after al the timetraveling mess. I always asumed it was about him being his dad and all. Kind of wanting to give an explanation about where the hell he was al those years. Too bad they didn't add that to the story more. I really would like to know more about it.

Yeah Kiros says something like "Thank God you dont look like your father." And I see that as Kiros having a little dig at Laguna as thats what they do sometimes. But yeah, Laguna and Raine are Squall's parents.
 
OMFG! How did i not see this? And why is it that every post I read it's Bambi that makes sense of it all first?

Something i must of missed, or forgot, or just didn't notice... Another reason to play the game again, eh?
 
Lol, yea the hints were dropped pretty liberally. At the very least, the ending movie when you see the famous Raine, shows the resemblance pretty well IMO. :/
 
Well... Yeah, Laguna is Squall's dad. Added to Kiros' and Ward's comments about Squall, on disk three Laguna tells Squall that he wants to say something, and then he cuts off and saves it for later, however he never really says it in the game..... :confused:

Is it just me..... or does Laguna look a little too young for a guy with a son who is seventeen years old? :P
 
Wow...i never ever noticed that...i feel quite dumb considering i played the game through 3 times and did almost all of the sidequests. I guess i didn't pay enough attention to detail when i was younger...but, on the whole laguna being too young for a 17 year old son, my parents are 36, and im 19. so its possible lol

Indeed, he does look young, but Laguna is about 27 when you first see him in the dream sequences. So in total, he is 39 when you encounter him as Squall, which is a decent age to have a 17 year old son. My parents were younger then Laguna when they had me lol.
 
what a small world....squall's parents are laguna and raine, and rinoa's mom is julia, laguna's first love before he met raine.

That cant be true.
In the booklet it says that he is 27, I asume that is in de dream sequences.
But wasn't that at least 17 years ago? That would make him 44 by now.
Otherwise, by the time you see him in the dreams, he already has a 5 year old son. Thats weird considering by that time he hasn't even met Rain yet.


Btw to clear things up, the ultimania books say that their his parents too.

But Laguna had never really left Squall or he would have never been taken' into Balamb Garden.
 
It's confusing, I admit it

Squall's 17.
The Booklet says Laguna's 27...which would make him 10 years older than Squall, which would make sense with the car and all- here you only have to be 17 to drive

However if Laguna was Squall's dad it would make him 27 in the "dream" world that Ellone shows, and that was before Squall was born...which would make Laguna at least 44...which he doesn't look...I can't completely work it out...I know that Raine had a child, but I always assumed that Raine's child was the girl you met in Winhill when you get there as Squall...she says she knows that she looks like "her" but isn't her....

Ellone is Squall's step sister as she is pretty much Laguna and Raine's adopted daughter. Not their natural daughter though.

Laguna is 44, 27+17 = 44.
Also I think someone says that Esthar shut itself off for 17 years, which is how old Squall is.
 
what he said, until we actually MEET Laguna in the flesh, I don't think we are aware that it was actually that far in the past. Or actually, when we meet Ellone and realise how much time HAS actually passed. When Squall meets her for the first time, I think he was expecting her to be 'the little girl from the dreams' and then he sees a grown woman. I think if the guide said he was 44 it might spoil things a little

And I expect Edea isn't meant to be young, but she still looks pretty fit...for whatever her age is meant to be >_>

Although tbf, in that final FMV I DO think Laguna looks like he has aged, so yeah. He's not a young dad, just a regular one.
 
I think that I was expecting Laguna to be 27 when the story of Squall was occurring- 10 years had passed...Laguna had lived 10 years of his life since what Squall had experienced in his "dreams"

I thought that Laguna was 27 in the real time and 17 in the dream time...



My main argument is the girl about the same age as Squall- "I know I look like her but I'm not her"

I thought she was Raine and Laguna's daughter- but she's the same age as Squall really- so it wouldn't make sense because that would only make 10 years between Laguna's struggle and Where Squall is now...

bear with me, I'm working it out as I go along...
 
Isn't Ellone about 24? I honestly can't remember where I got that from, or if I just assumed it, but Im pretty sure she was adopted by Raine, then Laguna when he has turned up in Winhill - because her parents died when they resisted handing her over when Adel was searching for little girls......

What I assume is, when Laguna has swanned off lookig for Ellone (I assume she would have been about 6?) Raine would have been pregnant, so then like the div he is, he has agreed to become president of Esthar, without realising what he has agreed to - Raine has died in Childbirth, which Ellone herself comments on and also says she can no longer get back to that point in the past....that baby being Squall. Then they both get sent to the orphanage
