As a on-topic form of catch-up, since I seem to have been out of the loop for a while, I've made this thread so we can all talk about what we've been up to in the last year. Brag, moan, chat - whatever.

So, why haven't I been around recently? University, mostly:

1) In March, I ran for a position on the Board of Management at one of my student unions and won. I was in charge of basically helping to run the building (it's run entirely by students, not staff) and introduced a few projects to help increase membership, footfall and profits.

2) In October, I entered an election to be the representative for my department (Life Sciences, i.e. Biology). I now have a seat on the Students' Representative Council (which entails me sitting on various academic committees and generally trying to improve the lives of everyone studying Biology).

3) Work. I worked almost full-time over the summer. Lots of hours.

You?

I started a new job in May to which im still there now. Not the best of places to work but for the mean time ive fairly settled in and am quite comfortable.

I suppose the years not been that evntfull but ive seen a few good bands.
Earlier in march i saw ocean colour scene. I saw jimmy eat world in Edinburgh, that was one of the highlights of my life haha. I seen jon fratelli in glasgow a couple months back. Seen him before but damn hes awesome. Just this friday past i saw bill bailey live, which blew my mind, i couldnt stop laughing.

Losing my previous job and getting my new one is probadly the biggest piece of news i have. Biggest and most boring. I have to say 2011 has been a pretty fun year so far.

Fucking absolutely nothing. Except for a few job interviews this year(gone horribly wrong), I have done nothing productive. My life is miserable. Maybe I'll be lucky next year and actually land a job.

Gosh, well, from January to June, I wrote MANY essays for Uni. I was in my third year, so completed 9,000 words over Christmas/New Year, then another 9,000 plus my dissertation, 13,000, between New Year and Easter. :hmmm: I then revised for an exam on Chaucer! :) I got a First for my final year! :yay: A low 2.1 in my second year led to an average of 68.25, so I will always say I got a high 2.1. :wacky: :yay:

After that...I went on a couple of holidays, relaxed, played some games and looked for a job and volunteering opportunities. And work experience!

So in July, September and the first week of October, I completed work experience; I visited two secondary schools and a primary school. I then applied for a PGCE in secondary English! :D

Whilst doing that, I applied for various volunteer jobs and also my current job as a tutor! :)

Volunteering has included:

  • proof reading the local Wildlife Magazine once every three months
  • leading the local youth club with others
  • training to lead health walks and attending the walks led by others as I wait for them to arrange the new rota!
So yes, quite a bit. It's been a good year! :yay: I'm feeling pleased! :)

In chronological order from the beginning of the year to most recent:

+ I finally finished by 5,000 dissertation extended project qualification essay on the socio-political problems of Weimar Germany just before I returned to college for the spring term. Good lord, that was quite a deep end I plunged into. The longest essay I have to write this term at university is only half of that!

+ Acquired a part-time job at a local tavern restaurant. I rarely enjoyed doing it, but I figured that I had to begin saving up money for where I am now, which is university.

+ Got conditional offers from every one of my university choices, bar Oxford of course, as they decided to reject me with a blunt email at New Years Eve.

+ Endured my final exams and said goodbye to sixth form.

+ Worked all summer, but I did spend a few days in London, and I did meet up with several friends of whom I haven't been in touch with or have seen in a while.

+ Got a few A* grades and a couple of A grades from my A-Levels. A conditional offer from my firm choice became an unconditional one.

+ Xenoblade Chronicles had me absorbed for the remainder of the summer whenever I had time off. I imagine Skyrim is doing the same thing to a lot of people now.

+ Spent the whole of September trying to get around the university's perplexing website layout, pre-arrival processes and preparing for the first term. Oh, and I finally quit my job.

+ Started my first term here, and I've got to known quite a lot of interesting characters so far, some of which are just comically eccentric. I nearly got a First Class mark in one of my essays too (a 2.1), which isn't a bad start at all.

+ Somehow, I didn't actually get drunk on my birthday. Quite an impressive feat that - I mean, it's not like I hadn't been drinking at all.

finished uni in may-ish, then moved to manchester in july. i had my graduation yesterday so now i'm properly done with uni for good.
i started a new job last week in the cinema down the road, which is all i've been working since i left carlisle. i've had a couple of unpaid crew jobs in the film industry, which were brilliant experiences and i learned loads, and i've got a few good contacts in the industry from it.

Hmmm so from January to March I was busy bitching after being dumped. In may I found a newborn cat and kept it(His name is Chester). In June and July I was busy applying for jobs and got none. Also took care of granny during this time and dated an amazing person and a dreadful one. In August I basically planned, co-ran and set up a funeral. In September I went to a gay dancing club for the first time and looked like a flailing lunatic with friends until 6am. I also started at a new college that month...The last few months have been nothing but me in school, doing freelance jobs and videogame fun o.o

Well the only things I did this year is:

1) Doing schoolwork such as in-class tests, assignments. Couldn't wait to finish them all as it was my final year in school.

2) Study for my WACE exams.

3) I got a job at an electronics contracting manufacturing, so finally I have a job to earn some income :D.

4) I play duh video games during my free time so it's all good XD.

Met Tom, ended my tenancy a couple of weeks ago to move in with said Tom. (Im going into complete meltdown trying to keep myself organised and sorting shit out, urgh. On the plus side, Ive stressed myself thin)

Went to Turkey with the girls, had a monkey on my head

Worked too much. Walked out. Went back...

Started driving lessons at the start of July. Still fucking lessoning

Oh, I sold a painting

Erm... cant think of out else

:hmmm:

To be honest 2011 hasn't been very kind to me or Steve.

For the first half of the year we had all sorts of problems with finding Steve a decent car. I believe we went through around five different cars before finally finding a decent one.

We had our washing machine break down and so we had to use the laundromat for two months until someone came out to fix it.

Then Steve accidentally ran into our letterbox with our really good car and we had to fork out $500 to pay the excess on our insurance to get it fixed.

Then Steve lost his job in September and he still doesn't have one.

Oh and we both had to have operations to remove teeth. I had my four wisdoms removed and he had four random teeth removed that were bothering him. The total came to around $3500 for the both of us. More money that had to be spent.

All that sort of shit kept happening all year.

Nothing interesting really happened because we didn't have the time or money to do anything fun like go out to concerts or anything.

Every weekend has been a stay at home weekend pretty much with the exception of a few birthday parties here and there. Then I've just been working Monday-Friday.

But I'm hoping 2012 will be kind to us. I think we deserve a nice year this time around. :gonk:
