I just found out the meaning of the names of some of the main characters in FFX and want to know what other people think of this.

Well first off Tidus's name has nothing to do with water contrary to popular oppinion it means Sun in Okinawan.
Yuna was named after a the flower on her costume which also means moon in Okinawan.
Finally Wakka's name in Ainu means water. Something oviously to do with blitzball.

I think that the other characters names are just names.

I think it's debatable what Tidus' name actually means, popular belief says it means Tide or w/e but I think it means Sun because not only would the sun go hand in hand with the moon (Yuna's name) but Tidus' Sigil and Crest are Sun also

Tidus = Sun? I think you guys are just going off of what Sigils and Crests they had to obtain in the game. Tidus most definitely does not refer to "water" or "sun", but Tide, like Aztec said.

Rikku, Lulu, Kimahri, Auron...I have no idea if they have a true meaning; Auron might, but the others' I'm certain are just random.

No, I deffinately heard or read it somewhere, I'll check Wikki and see what they have to say about it...

EDIT: Okay, here's what I found:

"Character Designer Tetsuya Nomura has explained that he adorned Yuna's dress and necklace with images of the hibiscus flower also called "Yuna", and that her name carries the meaning of "night" in Okinawan, establishing a contrast between her and the lead male protagonist of Final Fantasy X, Tidus, whose name means "sun" in Okinawan."

As if this wasn't enough, I also found a Tidus fansite called "Solaris"

EDIT2: I found a little more that'll clarify what I said about the Crest and Sigils:

"This contrast is also represented in-game by items named for the sun and moon that empower Tidus' and Yuna's most powerful weapons."

This could be debated here forever but I think I've given enough evidence to prove my previous statement in this Thread true

I can't and won't argue the meaning of the names but I will say what I think. Be it right or wrong.

Tidus..... Obviously water based, Tides...... he playes an underwater sport, and seems happiest in the water.

Yuna.... Luna, clearly, and forget sun and moon, it's the moon that affects the tides, need I say more?

Auron, Aura? A spirit, a soul.

Just my ideas, not saying it's right.
