Why couldn't Tifa die?

In my opinion it would have been more dramatic but I do understand that it fueled Cloud on to fight Sephiroth and save the world.

Aerith was a kinder and had a more sweet personality than the strong personality Tifa possessed. Because of this, Aerith's death was more of a shock, partially because she was a love interest for Cloud. Also, Aerith was a Cetra, allowing her to use Holy to counter Sephiroth. This would have ended the game very early.

Tifa was needed as she was a vital link to Cloud's past. Aerith wouldn't have been able to help Cloud when
he went insane and plopped into the lifestream
. Aerith didn't have the shared history with Cloud that Tifa had, so it made sense for Tifa to
live and Aerith to die
.

Also, Aerith had a strong connection to the
Forgotten Capital, being a Cetra
, and hence Tifa going there to
pray
would make little sense, and Tifa
wizzing around the lifestream
wouldn't have done anything to stop the
fall of Meteor
at the end.

I dont think much of an impact would have been made if Tifa died, I wouldnt care as much. Cloud was fuled enough to hate Sephy for what he did to Aeris anyway. Plus Square wanted her to live.

Guys, this is meant to be a serious discussion thread and this is a post count section. Let's try to make meaningful posts that add to the thread please. Thanks. :)

But in all seriousness.

It is because of what Argor has said above.

Without the memories that he and Tifa shared, after being
controlled by Sephiroth
Cloud would never have recovered fully from the belief that
he was not really who he tought he was and his mako poisoning, hence when they fell into the lifestream and Cloud memory brought up things that both HE AND TIFA could remember Cloud realised he was in fact the person he tohught he was from Nibelheim, and recovered, ready to fight Sephiroth with renewed strength

Also if Aeris were alive and remained alive she realised how she could save the planet then
Sephiroth couldn't block her spirit from fully summoning Holy, as it would be much easier for her to do it as a human

Also Aeris' ultimate limit break would make later parts of the game far too easy.

It wouldn't have done much to further the story if Tifa had died. And she would have felt like a throw away character much like Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie as most of her development did not come until later in the game.

Aerith death was needed. There was something in the game that went along the lines of "when one returns to the planey while summoning holy..." Also Aerith was death was needed to summon the life stream to hold up meteor while holy destroyed it.

Tifa's story would have just ended with her death.

I completely stand behind what Argor said. To be honest, this is the most logical reason for me out there.

I mean... Of she could've died, but Square made it so that it was Aerith instead of Tifa. I mean so be it. :hmmm: I can't really imagine it the other way around to be honest. Just doesn't seem right.

So yeah, I agree with Argor, as it's my opinion on this too.

Also remember that Tifa was a last minute character added to help explain Cloud's past. It would have felt like she was just added to the game to be killed if it had been her instead of Aerith. She would have been the shy girl that had a crush on Cloud and ended up dying 1/3 into the game with out Cloud ever knowing. Kind of sad.

Though what would Sephiroth's purpose have been in killing her? She wouldn't have been summoning holy and there was nothing about her that would have alarmed Sephiroth. It wouldn't have made sense story wise. If they were going to kill her off, the best time would have been with Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie.

I don't think it would have been more dramatic, I can't possibly imagine what FFVII would be if Aerith didn't die > She was the single most important character in Final Fantasy VII and changed how Final Fantasy was looked at ever since -- Usually a side character died one much less cared for but when a protagonist died it made FFVII what it is today.

If it was any other character to die the game wouldn't have entered as many peoples hearts as it did.

Aerith was sweet, Kind, Selfless, and was always going on about the future nobody expected it or wanted it to happen so that is why it should never be changed.

What point could Tifa dying make?

Like others have said, it wouldn't make sense for Tifa to die. Aerith died because she had to. Not because it was dramatic. If Tifa would have died instead she'd be made into a character that was able to be thrown away.

She wasn't killed because she had to help Cloud relize that he was Cloud from Nibelhiem, and not just created.

EDIT:Outposted

I agree Grimmjow.

This. Tifa seems to take a less love-y role as the game is closing out. Killing her too would be, pun intended, overkill. The motivation was there already... no need to kill Tifa.

:awesome:

...Another thing, would Tifa even let herself be put in a situation where she could die? I don't think so. Besides that, what would be the cause in her dying? Has that been answered?:humph:

Tifa dying would have been like Barrett or Yuffie or Cid, or any other character dying (Barrett would have been the most predictable). What would have been the point? Especially at that point in the game and these characters would only feel like after thoughts. If her death would have happened later, like at the end of disk two or begining of three, then it would have had more of an impact. But they'd have to do it in some dramatic fashion which could come off extremely cheesy.

They'd also need a good reason as to why she'd die. Aerith had a reason...a purpose. But if Tifa died, she'd just die. It'd be another lost friend, and that's about it.

Tifa couldn't die because she was the hot one that all the fanboys fantasize about. There is even Tifa pr0n on the interwebs, but seriously it's because the story wouldn't have gained anything from Tifa dying.

Tifa dying would screw everything up. As previously stated before, Aerith wouldn't be able to channel her entire spirit into summoning Holy and Sephiroth would've destroyed the planet. Only then would it be game over. I could imagine Cloud being just as upset as he was when Aerith died, however. But I just don't see FFVII without Tifa alive.
