So just recently I listened to the song "Whip My Hair" by Willow Smith (Will Smith's daughter). And as cute and catchy as a lot of people find this song [heck, I like it.], I have a bone to pick with some of the parts of the lyrics, so I'm going to list them all for you~

1 . "Hop up out the bed turn my swag on"
What swag? You're 9 years old, you shouldn't even know what swag is. Hell, swag isn't even a real word in the English dictionary, despite that it is now to majority of America - but that's just my personal peeve with the word swag. Point is, Willow doesn't have swag .

2. "and we ain't doing nothing wrong
so don't tell me nothing, i'm just tryna have fun
so keep the party jumping"

. . .You're in the 3rd grade. The only party you're going to is in Chuck E Cheeses .

3. "
Don't let haters keep me off my grind"
I am really worried if you have haters when you're only in the 3rd grade. I mean, I'm not 'hating', I'm just pointing out some errors I've noticed about the song. Willow's cute, I like Willow, but still sweetie, but not even half of the songs lyrics apply to you - and the majority of the lyrics are just "I WHIP MY HAIR BACK AND FORTH I WHIP MY HAIR BACK AND FORTH I WHIP MY HAIR BACK AND FORTH I WHIP MY HAIR BACK AND FORTH!"

Considering I'm typing this during school, I don't have time to state all of the things off about the lyrics - and believe me, there are a couple more I'd like to list, but if you have listened to this song and noticed what I've noticed, feel free to list them. But what is all of your opinions of this popular song (which probably wouldn't be popular if her parents weren't famous.)?

its the most irritating song ive ever heard, i cant even comment on the lyrics, the sound of my teeth grinding drowns them out. It's fucking awful

Kelly said it perfectly. :rage:

I frickin' hate that dumb song. If I wanted to listen to Alvin and the Chipmunks I would listen to their albums not this crud.

I gotta give props to the girl though, she's got pipes. And she's what.. nine years old? Despite the grinding chorus (or is that Kelly's teeth?) she sounds pretty good.

Here's the process flow chart I was thinking of when trying to diagnose how I felt about this song...

"I whip my hair back and forth" -> :awesome: -> "I whip my hair back and forth"-> :) -> "I whip my hair back and forth" :hmmm: -> "I whip my hair back and forth -> :jtc: -> "I whip my hair back and forth" -> :brooding: -> "I whip my hair back and forth -> :rage: -> "I whip my hair back and forth" -> :banghead: -> "I whip my hair back and forth" -> :dead:

Lmao, that is the best post yet. :jess: And the one I can relate to most. :rage:

If this was a teenager doing a song like this, then I'd be worried, but the fact that it's a little girl, and that she can have pipes as she does, it's pretty good. Give or take, she is definitely her father's daughter, and has a good future.

Now, I get that the lyrics are just horrid, and I totally agree, but the video itself, and the vocals that Willow shows is pretty great for her age. I myself, think the song is pretty catchy, and it's definitely one that can be played at a party or something, but not the best, that's for sure. :wacky:

One thing that I think almost everyone notices is when she actually starts singing (after the long chorus), I didn't think it was her at first singing. And then when I discovered that it actually was Willow singing in the song, I was just like, ". . .that can't be you. It must be your mom. Or anyone else over 20". Like she sounds like a young woman, and yes she's in the 3rd grade. Where's her "ladies"? Fuck no, where's her toddlers ?

Ech...I'm not bothered about Cheryl Cole fighting for this love then just filing for divorce, I'm not bothered by Gaga wanting us to dance when she doesn't really have the best moves ever and Kings of Leon don't bother me when they claim I'm sexy when they're all ugly as fuck.

Just try not to read too much in to a 9 year-old's first song. Well the fuck done for being a popstar though :lew:

That chorus is still a nightmare regardless

Heard it the first time in work and by the time the song finished I was ready for ripping the speakers out of their sockets.

On another note, the fucking cats had off with my gloves....

Kelly, this is what you have to do.

I had to. :andry:

A) Her dancing is inappropriate for a nine year old. Just because she's wearing more clothes then most people who dance like that doesn't change the fact that she shouldn't be dancing like that.

B) I like Will Smith and his music but by god, how could he let his daughter produce such an obnoxious song? He's the kind of guy that actually raps and doesn't repeat the same lyrics over and over covering them up with good beats, which is basically what Willow did except I don't like the beat to the song either. It's a shame.

This is also a future prediction judging from what I've seen with the Smith children; Willow and Jayden are going to have issues with authority when they grow up.

Amen.

(And for the sake of making this any longer seeing it's a post count.

its kinda creepy tbh to see a girl of that age singing in a music video

Ugh I hate this child and I hate that she's singing stuff like this. Firstly she should have a normal childhood... Look what happened to Miley Cyrus?? She turned into a massive skank... I can see this happening to this child...

The song is catchy, it always gets stuck in my head. But she is only nine years old, so I can't hate her for it. I'm sure I made up songs like this when I was a kid.

And sometimes I think, the song may be referring to how life will be when Willow gets older, say maybe 21+ . Here are some examples (who I give credit to GloZell for providing) :

"Wut? You want me to pay rent? lul, well you tell my landlord "I WHIP MY HAIR BACK AND FORTH, I WHIP MY HAIR BACK AND FORTH!"

"Wut? You want me to pay taxes? Well tell that IRS "I WHIP MY HAIR BACK AND FORTH!"

"Wut? You wanna divorce me? lulululul, well guess what honey? I WHIP MY HAIR!"

"Wuuuuut? You want me to pay student loans? I WHIP MY HAIR!"

"Uuuuuuuuhh, you want me to watch the Fresh Prince of Belair? I. WHIP. MY. HAIR!"

:wacky:

I gotta give props to the girl though, she's got pipes.

I mean, unless I hear Willow live and she really is that good i'll believe it but, you know what recording artist (the producer) does: They modify and tweak it so that it may sound better. I'm not saying that's the case but, it's hard to believe a 9 year old can sing like she's a lot older.

I mean she's Will Smith's freakin' daughter she's gonna get famous somehow. His son also did some song with Justin Bieber xD (he's famous as well for doing movies etc) Though, it wasn't good imo. :hmmm:

I think this song is annoying. I really hate the repetition of the chorus it killed me >D:

I am just going to comment. First of all, she is nine years old and the song is not that great, but not the worst I have heard.

Second of all, what makes you think she will grow up being a skank? She looks like she had a good family and I don't think that would happen with the proper guidance.

Third of all, I know a lot of nine year olds that do dance like that and that is not provocative actually. I don't know why people think that way because I don't see anything sexual about it at all. There are 4 year old break dancers. :/

Fourth of all, why do people even listen to the song? Obviously it is not your style, so why bother even caring? I think people get bothered very easily about things not worth the time or effort to be bothered by. She is only 9 years old and what do you expect? A love ballad, a beautifully adult written song... No, you expect a song a nine year old would sing for shits and giggles. That is what this song is. It is not meant to be anything more or less.

I just find it ironic how people attack this song and her. She obviously has a good head on her shoulder and talented. Maybe she felt she was ready. It is obvious even if she did not become a star, she would be famous anyway based on her family. It is best to be famous for something, then be famous for being with her parents. That is probably why she decided to sing. I am sure Will Smith felt his daughter was read and I am sure if the pressure comes to her, they would let her walk away.

I think nine year olds do need someone their age in the media to listen too. It may not be the best music but nine year olds listen to whatever is popular. Would you rather them listen to Lady Gaga or Willow Smith?
