Ok, I see the relevance of the crystal as the logo for FFIX, but wouldn't the Iifa Tree have been a better choice? No?

yeah, i agree, i undestand WHY its the crystal, buti think the Iifa tree would have been a much better choice AND I think it'd look better

..Really think/ believe that a picture of Kuja would of been more entertaining..:awesome:

... Wonder if the game would of received a higher rating because of it.. xDD

Har har, I agree. It probably would've gotten a higher rating too, since Kuja is just that epic.

i think a black mage would have worked well as well, or maybe one of the walzes so it wasnt confused with vivi, i always thought the crystal looked abit boring

I guess the Iifa Tree wasn't chosen because it would look a bit strange in the logo- I don't know, but I do know the art team play around with their logos. We've seen logo changes in Final Fantasy X and Crystal Bearers.

I agree that the Iifa Tree would have more significance. It is an important landmark in the game, whereas the Crystal only appears at the very end. I suppose the Crystal is used as a reference to earlier FF games where crystals are used, such as FFI, FFIII, FFIV and FFV.

Interesting idea.

I didn't particularly mind the crystal. In fact I liked it. But thinking about it now it would probably have been quite fitting and interesting to have the Iifa tree instead.

However the crystal was fitting as well, being the source of all existance in the FF9 universe. Kuja going for the crystal showed how
he'd lost all his dreams of domination and replaced them with the desire to destroy everything along with himself when he learned that his lifetime was short
.

So it was quite fitting and crucial for the theme towards the end of the game, though the Iifa tree was a powerful symbol on the planet;
spawning the mist, recycling souls
etc as well as being an impressive landmark.

The crystal is indeed kinda boring, but a good choice anyways. Most other logo's have a big/detailed object, while the crystal is plain and simple. At least we've got the golden IX to add something extra, right ;-)

Think the Crystal logo was used as a selling technique.

Think it was used to show older players who grew up with FF4- FF6 and was awkward with FF7 and FF8, to say " Hey, guys ! The crystals are back and Final Fantasy has gone back to it's older style of gaming ! ":ness:

Don't know why though, mean what crystals ? there was only one. ><

But can remember seeing old magazines celebrating the fact that the "Crystals are back "
and the Final Fantasy series has gone back to it's older style, buy it now [ Kinda thing ]

I actually quite agree with this. I think it was more of an advertising strategy--but then again, I think all logos are for advertising/selling the brand anyway. :hmmm:

Now that I think about it, I see your point. It would have much more significance to FFIX if they used the Iifa tree as the added design. But if I haven't played it and I see the tree as the design, it wouldn't be as magical or as intriguing as the crystal. I'm alright with the crystal being the design anyway, because I think it's one of the main items related to the story.

I think maybe the city of Alexandria (or at least the palace) would have made a good choice IMO.
It plays a pretty big part in the game, what with everything beginning and ending there, as wel as another major part of the game happening there about half way through. I reckon it would work fairly well as a symbol for this game.

The Crystal was probably more symbolic of the game returning to the series roots than the tree, was. Maybe they weren't going for looks, rather they were going for tradition :monster:

On a side note, the tree would have looked better, but the crystal seems more symbolic.

Considering the crystal is indeed the very essence keeping the world together...yes, I know it's a marketing throwback to the original games, but it does seem to make sense. FFIX is about the want to live and a sense of identity, so possibly the only other symbol I may have liked would have been Vivi. It would probably relate to the tone of the game better, perhaps...

I think the logo was perfect the way it was. As mentioned its all about the old skool crystal. I mean the Ifia tree would have made an interesting logo, but I myself prefer the logo chosen. To me it stands out more.

Well the lifa tree would be a good logo considering it was the main focus later on in the game along with Kuju etc but I liked the crystal XD. Can't really picture removing the crystal and putting in the lifa tree though- it just kindof stuck to it xD

Interesting idea about the marketing scheme. I definitely think it could've been better. Not necessarily an all-encompassing theme of the game, but something better. Cuz VII had Meteor, and.......well.........oh okay, I guess that WAS an all-encompassing theme. BUT, number X just had Yuna doing the sending, so that wasn't TOO important. I think it should be something that instantly reminds you about everything in the game upon looking at it. Like, say...............the eye of the Invincible, or the Prima Vista, or one of the Hilda Gardes. The Crystal really only makes me think of the very end of the game, while the eye of the Invincible is featured in several places, and, correct me if I'm wrong, at least once on every disk.
