http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_music_artists
Ok this is a list of the top selling music in overall history. Our objective is to deviate from this list using different variables that actually may affect the list.
First I would like to say that I love this list...mostly...
I think its great that bands like the beatles and Led Zepplin could remain in the top 5 and only have played for a decade each.
Sadly I do not think that this list should stand as it does for one major reason.
Reason: The bands that are on top are bands that rose in a time when we couldnt download everything we wanted straight to our computers....or burn CD's. So in this time we had to buy the albums to freely listen to the music.
Time has changed....we can download and burn and get music very easily even if it is not ethical.
So my question is...how do you think this list would be different if you cuoldnt download all of the new stuff...Under 100 million albums sold there are many artists that are on this list from our decade and generation.
Are many of these bands merely on this list because our technology has adapted and we just don't buy the albums as much? Can we even make these kinds of lists anymore? How does one compare fairly the actual success of these bands with so many different variable.
For example lady Gaga is on this list with like 70-80 million albums sold.........and she is so new!!!!! What if people couldnt download her annoying singles...and had to buy the cd? she would be a lot higher on that list and someone else would be shoved off. If the whole list was like that..how many classics would survive this list?
Lets hear your thoughts on these matters
