I'm a huge fan of The Thing, and I admit that this one is going to be a tough sell for me. While I'm not too thrilled that they added American characters to the Norwegian camp, (Guess the studio suits don't think that we can't handle non-American protagonists) I'll remain cautiously optimistic. The trailer looks decent, so I'll give this one a chance when it comes out. Sure I'll probably be harder on this movie than if it was a general sci-fi/horror, I fully concede that, but I WANT this to be an excellent movie.

Doubt it'll have anyone to match Kurt Russell's awesomeness though.

Until I watched the trailer I honestly thought it was a Fantastic Four spinoff. Looks alright, although I've never seen the original or been a fan of horror movies (just don't appeal to me). And olol Sam Carter. Same name as the arms dealer in Deus Ex

I'm a huge horror fan...but the original one of this was like the one movie I could not bring myself to finish...and so I had to turn it off.

I think its more of a psychological thriller tbh...and thats what makes it so disturbing, in addition to the actual visuals, which even with the lame special effects they had back in the 80's, made my skin crawl :damon:

However, I've been debating on whether or not I'd like to give seeing this a second go now that they are remaking it.

Strictly it's a prequel rather than a remake just to say. I get the feeling this will just be another forgettable horror movie that won't live up to John Carpenter's predecessor though.

I guess universal is doing it. Looks intresting indeed. I am sure I will watch this movie.

Hehe I was looking at the poster with my father when when I was visiting America. He said "aww, I hope they dont ruin a classic."

Well to be short my father did not even know that the 1982 john carpenter film was also an adaption from a film called "the thing from another world." However that movie was also inspired by a novel called "who goes there?"

So in short the theme is indeed a classic, but it had been used in different forms... which leaves potential for innovative growth. Especially since this newer film is intended to be more of a prequel.
