So DBTech has offered a few mods and we can have them implemented within the week.

For more info and screenshots:

Forum Tabs - http://www.dragonbyte-tech.com/vbecommerce.php?productid=202&do=product

Member Maps - http://www.dragonbyte-tech.com/vbecommerce.php?productid=229&do=product

But before anything else, I think it's only proper to ask the general public what they think. Would you guys be okay if we implement these? With Member Maps, privacy shouldn't be an issue since any member can opt in or out. It'll be located in the Navbar.

Forum Tabs, however, everyone will be affected and we will see the new forum tabs system. Basically you can customize / organize your own forums tabs. "Category Tabs can also have different styling allowing for very different looking sections to your forum home page. Tabs are remembered when coming back to the forum home page."

If the majority would like to see this, then we'll roll with it. :)

Personally don't care for the member maps. Specially if something happens with it and it shows where people live. :wacky: I personally don't really mind if this is added or not, but it's not something I'm specifically 'for'.

As far as the Forum Tabs go, I'm not quite sure how it would work, but it looks nice. Not sure if I'd use it though.

Forum tabs I am kinda against, I really don't really like the tabs, but then again it could be because I am not really use to use them on a forum and it would just take me some time to like them, but my vote is no

Member Maps I am indifferent too, if you put it, great, if not, It wont bother me none, One point it might be fun seeing where everyone lives, but at the same time how would it work for those members that wanna be more private about where they live?

i dont think member maps is going to link you to a google street view of someone's house. so long as it's opt in i see no problem with it.

not sure i see the point in the forum tabs thing but it will no doubt be so great! ^_^

I think the Member Map feature could be pretty interesting considering that many members here live in different countries and states. It'd be nice to get a geographic representation of that. :p The Forum Tabs could be useful as well. ^^

tabs a defo yes, saves me scrolling sooo much to reach places like the GFX Section xP

as for the maps, mrrrr, it will be intresting, but it not a feature that we need :P

Ummm, I'll be honest in saying that I wouldn't participate in the maps. It's more info than I'm probably willing to give away. I can see some people enjoying the novelty of it though?

The tabs though will be amazing. They'll act as sorta bookmarks specific to FFF right? As customised shortcuts to certain threads? I think zis vill be very handy, considering there are very specific sections of the forum that I normally look through (naturally) :)

Doesn't the fact that we can collapse sections defeat the purpose of the tabs?

I dunno, though, I really only have two sections I go to and both of them fit rather snug under the shoutbox.

I'll be short and sweet here. You can have your maps function if you want providing we have a choice whether to opt in or not. And I don't really fancy the idea of opting in for it. Otherwise, no. Piss off.

Tabs I am indifferent towards

EDIT: Oh, you can choose to opt in. Whatever then

I cannot really see why it is necessary to know the locations of members... exact locations at that. Privacy seems like it will not be an issue thankfully. This comes across as a creepy feature at first glance. I do not think it would be a good idea.

I really do not see the point of tabs. I would not use it.

Doesn't the fact that we can collapse sections defeat the purpose of the tabs?

Had to ask since I am not familiar with the specifics. Good question though as I was thinking the same at first. But apparently you can add your favorite forums to a Favorites tab, and it'll only show those forums. Whereas with collapse sections we currently have now, you have to collapse the entire categories. Not really a big deal overall though, I can see why people may question its purpose.

I don't think that veterans and those who are familiar with the site navigation will find any use for this. It might help newbies find forums/threads with ease though, and that's the only appeal I can see in that. Otherwise, it'll be just there and you can choose to use it or not, customize as big or small as you want, etc.

I don't see any use in the tab section so it seems kinda useless to me as well. As for the map tab I think I can safely say f that as it's going a bit to far on the info wise.

Wow, seems like many people have privacy issues here. o_O Unless the map feature will have markers directly showing what city or street you live in, I don't see it as a breach of privacy in any way. It's the same as showing which country or U.S. state you live in under your username/avatar and in your profile. Plus, you can choose to opt in or not.

I don't feel like I'm going to have any stalkers looking for me by saying I live in New York. I don't think anyone else should feel that way either, but I guess that's a matter of opinion. I just find it odd that almost everyone's opinion is in the negative here. It makes sense though, considering most people on here don't even seem to put an actual location for their user info.

And who said that these new features were supposed to be particularly practical? Is the shout box necessary? I think not. Don't get me wrong - I enjoy chatting in the shout box from time to time, but let's face it - traditional forums don't even implement shout boxes. I see it as a neat feature, not a standard. (The same way the Member Maps could be). Just saying. -___-

From the looks of it, the consensus is that the Member Maps feature is already a no-go. Which is a shame to me considering how global this online community is. And honestly, that's one reason why I think FFF is a cool forum. Because everyone lives in a different place and may be exposed to a different culture. They have something unique to share with everyone else. But I guess no one else feels that visually representing a unique, global online community is important. This is falling on deaf ears, I'm sure. Or blind eyes, I suppose.

I won't be participating in the maps thing...and I don't see the people who simply register here, never post, and leave using it too much either. I don't know if this would be all that worth it for the amount of active members that we have right now. We all know where most of us live anyways since it's either something that's been said at one point or is already advertised in our usertab info. I hope people are ready to open up their doors to stalkers when they decide to open this door on the forum because it's "interesting" (and fairly redundant) to show the diversity of this small forum.

and I really don't see me using the tabs either, so these are pretty unnecessary for me tbh.

I was basing my initial reaction on the DBtech page on the member maps, rather than what Mitsuki posted. No offence, but frankly, it didn't sound very pleasant and a lot of it just sent my alarm bells ringing. I saw the words "google maps", and shook my head.

But thanks for the explanation. So if you can be as vague as you want to be and can choose to opt in or out, then I've no real opinion on this.

Okay, I don't think we will be implementing the Member Maps then given the response. Thank you for offering though @DragonByte Tech :)

Forum Tabs, however, I'll wait and see what others say. In the meantime, I did PM LG to get his opinion on the matter too (not the Member Maps, I already said we won't be doing that). I personally wouldn't see any use for the Forum Tabs like many of you, but the idea that it may help newbies find their way around the forums with ease (especially at first glance, it may seem overwhelming)...it's a pretty neat option.

I agree with this 100% honestly. I don't mind the idea of the maps really as long as it doesn't give an exact location obviously :P But hey I'm a bit late with it but just expressing my opinion on it.

As for the Forum Tabs goes I don't see how the tabs would really hurt the for newbies to use it as Mits said. I can't really see myself using it much either but I say keep it for the newbies in case they need it.

Thank you all once again for the feedback. Discussed it a bit with LG, so we will go ahead and implement the forum tabs system soon, taking note of how the newer members take to it. If we are met with negative response, then we'll disable the mod. But let's give this one a try and see how it goes.
