I remember hating Fossil Roo the first few times I played through the game, but I just recently went through it again and it wasn't so bad. In fact, I only got into 1 random battle the entire time I was in the place.

Yes. They're not so bad if you're junctioned correctly. Give Squall St. Def x 4 and junction Pain, Confuse, Berserk, and Holy onto it. Voila.
