[02/08] Rumor: Final Fantasy XII “Remake” In Development

At the end of a Final Fantasy Distant Worlds concert in Pittsburgh, composer Arnie Roth may have slipped out news that a Final Fantasy XII remake is coming out soon. The news comes from Final Fantasy Network which attended the concert and recorded a video when Roth makes the announcement.

It isn’t clear if Final Fantasy XII will get a full remake like Final Fantasy VII or if Roth’s news is actually for a remastered version similar to Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD ReMIX and Final Fantasy X HD Remaster.

It definitely won't be a full remake. They'll go down the FFX remaster route for sure. There's just no point in fully remaking the game when it still looks passable right now.

Congrats FF12 fans. Hell, I may even buy this and give the game a second chance...I'll just have to down a bottle of SoCo first.
 
I hope they release it for PC on Steam and the likes. I rarely hook up my Playstations anymore, however, I will for XII and VII. :8F:
 
I don't see a full remake happening, but a remaster would be more plausible. I couldn't even fathom how grandiose a full-on remake would be. :lew:

Chances of a full remake happening and being announced by a conductor are 0. Chances of a conductor spilling the beans on a remaster and using a technically incorrect term, though? Very high. A Final Fantasy XII remaster has been asked for by numerous fans, perhaps most significantly fans that asked for it on that survey that SE ran a while back. That, along with all the other remasters over the past couple years, makes FFXII on PS4 (and Vita?? Please??) almost inevitable. It would be a pretty low-effort release. The game's style has held up so well it doesn't need a huge overhaul, just better textures and some basic model enhancements. I'd even be fine if the soundtrack wasn't remade. It already has built-in 16:9 support too, so just bump the internal rendering resolution up to 1080p and it's good to go.

Man, I'm pumped already! I love FFXII :D

EDIT: Unfortunately it also just occurred to me that perhaps Arnie Roth was actually meaning to say 'VII Remake'...in which case nothing to do with FFXII is underway at all. In the video, he's getting ready to introduce the composer of FFXII, so it's easy to see how he might slip up and say the wrong number. One can hope, though!

EDIT 2: NOPE, nevermind! Multiple sources are saying that Sakimoto (composer of FFXII's OST) 'confirmed' the remaster's existence during meet-and-greet sessions. It was just the usual 'I can't talk about it', but as usual, that generally means there's some legitimacy to the rumors.
 
We already know that same thing. There is no official source saying he denied the remaster of Final Fantasy XII still.
 
Ok but he never officially confirmed one was in the works. The rumor started by him only to clarify thats not what he meant. We are talking about composer and distant worlds. A remake rumor wouldnt start there. It would be from voice actor or producer.
 
The remaster's for sure happening. I hope it includes some version of Revenant Wings though, I really doubt that it will, but it's not impossible. I've never played RW, so I can't say how possible it would be to exist on a non-touchscreen console, but the way they upgraded Chain of Memories all those years ago gives me hope.
