Square Enix still hasn’t announced Bravely Default: Flying Fairy for North America or Europe, but don’t worry—the nostalgic turn-based role-playing game will be released overseas.

During the Game Developers Conference, Siliconera was able to confirm with multiple trusted sources that Bravely Default: Flying Fairy will be localized for English-speaking audiences.

Look forward to playing Bravely Default…

I know barely anything about this other than it will be a sort of throwback to ye olde FF games, but that's enough to get me a wee bit excited.
To know that it's definitely (or pretty much definitely) coming to Europe is the bestest news in the worldiverse (maybe) soooo...we just need a date now :lew:

NO WAY! Thank goodness I didn't buy the DS Lite, lol...recently, I was going to, but now it's time to think about buying a 3DS. I *REALLY* hate its design, though. I had revisited this game to see a western confirmation, but nothing. Now joining this forum...I really hope this is true. Do you know if we get that limited edition package?

I can't wait to hear a date for this! :3 Really hoping it's even better than 4 Heroes of Light!

Uhh, but I don't really get how it'll be localized but not released officially in the U.S. and Europe? Like, if you're localizing it overseas, isn't that similar to releasing it overseas? I'm sorry, I've never really understood the concept of localization, other than the fact that it's a process in which games are translated. >.>;

Xenoblade chronicles, and the last story were localized for english released but Nintendo said no in which they were not right for the IP that owned the wii. Which is why Project Rainfall came to exist.Obviously if its being localized, it means its being ready for english release.

"English release?" What does that even mean? Okay, so it's being localized and English-speaking audiences will be able to play it. But how exactly is it being distributed?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but usually when a game is being released (for Japan, U.S., Europe), it's available in game stores at a certain date, correct? But if this is merely localization and not an actual "release" then how is one able to obtain a copy of the localized game? Will it still be in game stores somehow? Or online?

I'm not too sure if I've ever bought a "localized" only game before. Or maybe I just didn't realize it. :hmmm:

Every game that was not originally in english is a localized game (Location-ized). Sometimes localization changes some terms for enlish audience(For example, Ash Ketchum is not the japanese name for Pokemon) .Like i said, Localization is done for them to put a release date. Sometimes a game is done being localized but needs to be released at a certain time for optimum sales. So localization is the first step of release.

Um...what? I don't get it. What is "localization"? Does this mean there is going to be a U.S. physical release? I'm confused. -_-

Localization is translating and sometimes altering a game so that it can be played for an audience with a different location. Rarely localization adds new content (example: KH1 and KHBBS) which often rallys the original audience causing to release an international version to them (KH Final Mix, Dissidia Universal Tuning).

But dont worry when they say the game will be "localized" they imply release aswell.

The only exception to this was the games: Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story and some other one because Nintendo wanted the IP that owned the wii to be more family oriented. However released recently (right before the wii U)

Tbh, I'm just shocked they decided to not be lazy and localize it for the west and Europe :wacky: I was expecting them to just not say anything about it like they did with Type 0 and then wait until it hits greatest hits status in Japan and then be like yeahhhhhhhhh we never had any intention of localizing this for the west...since that would make too much sense, because it was a successful game and people actually wanted it.

Are we thinking of the same Square-Enix here? :wacky:

Nintendo's in charge of the localisation exactly because Square has decided to do bugger all with a game that a) isn't called Final Fantasy, b) isn't called Kingdom Hearts, c) is on a 3DS as they have it in their minds that 3DS games will tank in the western markets.

And this is the same Square that thanks to internal incompetence, has come out with a less than stellar finance sheet recently, so I guess anything that can even be slightly considered a risk had to be shunned, or something.

Square-Enix deserves no credit here. They didn't develop Bravely. They have refused to publish it. It's all in Nintendo's hands now. Or at least maybe the European branch of Nintendo technically.

My bad, then. I don't follow all of the inner workings of SE or Nintendo...or how these companies are run because I don't really care :lew: I guess that's one less smack I can give SE. I should've figured it was someone else who made an intelligent decision rather than them. They've been doing stupid things for years, so one could only guess they'd have a high probability of continuing to do so in the future. On topic, I am looking forward to this. I might have to get a 3DS next year so I can play this and some other decent games on a handheld again.
