Nomura on Final Fantasy Versus XIII: ‘It takes time when tackling something new’

"Your patience is greatly appreciated," says Nomura.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII director Tetsuya Nomura commented on the status of his upcoming PlayStation 3 action RPG in the latest issue of Game Informer. But don’t get excited about it.

“We would like to ask for your patience on an official announcement for this title,” said Nomura. “It always takes time when tackling the challenge of doing something completely new, but we are doing our best to bring information to the fans as quickly as we can. Your patience is greatly appreciated.”

Nomura last said Square was almost ready to share new information the title. Final Fantasy Versus XIII was announced for PlayStation 3 in 2006.

Thanks, Final Fantasy Network.

This will never be released will it?

I'm just waiting for the cancellation note. I seriously doubt SE will be able to stick with their plan after all the delays. It's becoming quite stupid really.

Choose what you want to believe.

This is random, but let's take Gran Turismo 5 for example, while they may not be the same game, and genre,

GT5 took about 6 years to complete, and it just came out 2 years ago.

And Sony is more known and renowned then the makers of GT5, which is PolyPhony Digital.

If that's anything to go by, Sony's just slacking and not cracking down on 100% of the game. It'll be released....eventually

This is the new Duke Nukem Forever. Six years will turn into ten. It might come out, but it won't be that good.

The wait wont be worth, FFXIII looked like the perfect FF but at the end it didnt lived up the espectations and so this Title.

Like the above poster said Duke Nukem took almost more than a decade and it didnt succeeded, add Too human too to the mix.

The game will be good (I hope) but mark my words:

This wont be the game that everyone is hoping will be, however if im wrong you are welcome to spank me :)

Half-Life 3 is the current Duke Nukem Forever.

Unlike HL3, a trailer and actual information regarding the game (but not its release) have been revealed related to Versus XIII. Oh well both will be good hopefully, end of story.

lol You've got a point there. I forgot all about Half-Life 3. :lew:

If this ever actually comes to be, I'll feel guilty if I DIDN'T pre-order it and contribute money to Square for still letting a project take so long and so much adjusting before its release, and apologizing several times. If it turns out to be ass, though... I will absolutely buy a Square Enix title used in the future <3 That'd be a catastrophic event for me, waiting 12+ years (by then) for a game that looks good to come out and paying for it...

When it releases not only all the people that bought ffxIII & ffxIII-2 will buy it but perhaps others as well. Darkthemed and sense of more realism will attract more ppl. I hope lol, at least one of my friends who never liked ff wants to try out versus ever since he saw the trailer.

For the record, versus was not in full development 6 years ago. Versus is made up of key people who worked on fabula nova crystallis. Obviously this game was gonna be the last one even if newer entries to fnc came up.

The problem I have is that some of those key people ended up working on XIII-2 and that game took only 1 year...

Then again I think FFXII was in production before XI was even announced, and XIII took what...5 years?

But whatever... Square will tease this game till they decide to work on it.

XIII-2 only took a year because it was using a lot of what was already made with XIII. Versus is being made from scratch compared to XIII-2.

I really hope that an announcement will be made at E3 this year. I really hope that it will release next year. I have been waiting for this game so long, I hope it does release. I hope this does not end up like Half-Life 3/Episode 3 and never release or reveal anything.

While I agree, something new DOES take time, I just think they announced it too early. When they announced it, they hadnt really even started working on the game. Sure, planning and story/art was being worked on, but they werent even close to a full team starting to seriously work on it. If they would have announced it 2-3 years ago, people wouldnt be as antsy.

My theory is that FF XIII VS is not a real game. It's just a couple of made up graphical demos to keep the fanbase hoping and hanging on to the FF branch. SE can bring out and create crappy games for some quick cash; though the loyal fans won't leave the series because they will think " Hmm this game was crappy compared to FF X; though I'll hold on until Versus comes out. It could be great " !

FF XIII VS is never going to come out. SE is just going to keep on hanging on to the FF XIII VS thread until they come up with a different plan to keep the fans hooked into loyalty towards the series and the SE company.

It will be 2016 and there will still be no Versus, just another lame '' excuse '' from SE that something is going wrong or isn't working. Another thing that they're using as a thread to keep the fans in is the slight possibly of a FF VII or FF VI remake.

And it takes time to make something new ? Then how come they made Final Fantasy back in 1987/ 1986 within a couple of months with no trouble at all and it would of been harder to make games back then, due to lack of freedom in graphics and sound.

Then again that was Squaresoft and not Sq
uareEnix which doesn't surprise me in the slightest. :jtc:

Um, it definitely is harder to make games now than it was back then. You were talking of a 2D plane with no sense of depth. You are now talking full 3D worlds that need to be envisioned and made reality in high definition. It is more expensive AND harder to make games now, hence why games tend to be shorter and play it safe.
