Your lust for more Final Fantasy 7 could be satisfied if rumors surrounding the epic RPG hold up. Apparently there’s a release schedule for SquareEnix’s E3 announcements that shows FF7 as one of their shock & awe reveals. If the news is true, Final Fantasty 7 HD just might be releasing this holiday season. The remake of the game is rumored to be more than a visual upgrade or additional polished added to some old animations, according to one of SquareEnix's PR personnel. Final Fantasy 7 HD Remastered is reportedly a new version of FF7 built from the ground up, featuring a completely new engine to accompany the newly animated cut scenes.
According to the source, even the story has been adjusted, though most of it remains the same, some changes have been made to parts of the story. Better cut scenes, and an upgraded combat engine seems to be the most important changes according to what was explained to us. No word however, on if the new version is set to use the white engine featured in FF13; let’s hope not. According to the news we received, FF7 remastered’s cut scenes are going to look as good, if not better than, Final Fantasy Advent Children- The CG movie.(Yeah, we thought those were big claims as well.)
“The game will feel like a completely new game in a familiar settings” we were told. When we referenced the current onslaught of remastering going on, they responded with this.
“Final Fantasy 7 is more than ReMastered in HD, it’s almost a new IP because of what’s been done to the game, It’s the Final Fantasy every wants”.
The game is said to be coming as a PS3 exclusive, something to do with the licensing from the PS1. The tech demo released a few years back was apparently a prelude to what was planned for the game. The source claims since the release of the tech demo the graphics have vastly increased. He also stated that Square has had plans to release the FF7 remake for quite some time now, but the PS3’s past struggles to game market share prevented them from doing so. Now that the install base has increased, Square Enix feels it's the perfect time to reintroduce the series, the source says. A E3 announcement is expected, however, no official announcement has been made by SquareEnix on the topic.
The info does hold some weight given SquareEnix’s recent financial woes. This would be a perfect time to release a game that’s pretty much a guaranteed hit, and could generate a large amount of reveune. for now, we will see what the future holds, either way we will be at E3 2011 to find out the full details, so stay tuned. here’s the only teaser of FF7 remastered, lets hope it comes true.
