[h=1]Square Enix to discuss the “future of Final Fantasy” on June 11[/h]
dissidia-012-final-fantasy-cosmos.jpg

Square Enix will discuss the “future of Final Fantasy” during a pre-E3 event on June 11. The event will take place at 9.00am PDT. During the event, an invite of which was sent out to journalists attending E3, a Q&A with senior vice president Shinji Hashimoto will take place. Hashimoto told D’toid back in February that the firm was working on a next-gen Final Fantasy title, so hopefully fans will hear more next week. Square Enix will be broadcasting its E3 announcements and happenings on show floor live during E3 next week.

I hope this turns out to be something good. :hmmm:

To be completely honest, I would like them to finish off Final Fantasy, end it on a nice round fifteen and make it good. It would be great if they could just end the series on a high before moving on to other projects. They could concentrate more on Kingdom Hearts, or maybe bring in a new instalment for the Crono series, or move on to something new entirely. That would be fantastic, but I think I might be hoping for too much here.

I feel like the discussion should really be: IS there a future for Final Fantasy? We, including them, all know that nothing's really been going on with FF since FFX. If FF is just going to continue the way it's been, nobody cares about its future. But if they CAN continue from FFX greatly again, then I don't want Final Fantasy to ever end. When the series is good, it's just TOO good to have it end. It should be a series that contradicts its title. ^_^

Well honestly I loved XII. I really liked XIII-2 as well. The only FF to date that I've played and disliked was XIII. As long as fans are paying for FF games, they will likely continue to be made. I would absolutely hate for them to stop, because one bad game in amongst the best games I've ever played is really nothing to be ashamed of imo.

Any sort of franchise which has lasted as long as Final Fantasy will definitely have its up's and downs. I feel it's too strong a brand to go down the sinker from XIII's reactions, so I'd like to think there's a future.

A discussion for the fans to see would definitely help out, imo.

The thought of Final Fantasy coming to an end actually made me pretty sad. That's not cool, G. I do hope Final Fantasy has a future, but who knows what's going on at this point. I hope we get updates on Versus and LR and such. Maybe we'll even get a FFXV reveal soon (E3?). I really hope there's some good announcements coming up. I can't take any bad news. :(

I don't think Final Fantasy will end any time soon. Sure people didn't like FFXIII, doesn't mean they can't recover. FF is a great series, and it'll always have that huge bit of prestige from the past to push it forward.

But, Final Fantasy also makes them money.
Money's important for them. If they make money, they have no reason to end Final Fantasy- and they probably won't end it. No need to worry over that.

Consumers: Where's my Versus?

Square Enix: Did you hear about our BRAND NEW Luminous Engine??

Consumers: Where's my KH3?

Square Enix: I did lose a little bit of weight! Thanks for noticing!

Seriously though, SE seems to be more focused on FF sequels and FF phone games. I love Square but they've been really testing their fans lately. They've really forgotten what made them king back in the day.

All seriousness I don't wanna see this series die, I feel like so many RPG's have died this generation.

Shining Force, Breath of Fire (although that died long ago), Suikoden, and so many more.

I would almost be heartbroken if the future of FF did end like this. (although I rather the focus back on just turning it into a main series without so many spinoffs.)

its either their considering a radical change or ending it. i prefer ending it. At this point, they can't continuously make a whole new system for a single series like they used to. FF strives to be even more different from its predecessors, and i dont think using action RPG elements will help.

there are very few things that make ff series part of ff. the only things i consider staples of ff series are chocobos, moogles, and ATB system. everything else, other series have used. except for the monsters, but they can always make up new ones. idk....FF should end, i can only see up to ff 21. but after that, it can only go downhill in my eyes.

It's a fan-made logo that's been around a while. Just google it and you'll find it.

It's a fake. The wide V in that FFXV logo looks suspiciously out of place anyway.

Umm, I personally think Versus is still projected to appear next week (hopefully). Just not as "Versus" but in another form, preferably not too dissimilar from what it was. Final Fantasy XV now seems a real possibility, if not, the likelihood.

FFXIV PS4 seems to be on the cards, except they're more focused on getting the PC and PS3 versions out of the gate and up and running first. Providing no more serious mishaps, a PS4 version also seems likely, if not, certain.

Kingdom Hearts III, I wouldn't rule out. I certainly don't expect it to show up next week, but there's still the Osaka studio who has to be making something at the moment. Sure, the only thing is, it may not be a full-fledged console sequel, but it could be.

You can put the rope down, sir. I am confiscating it.

osaka merged with 1st production team along time ago. Around Birth by sleep's time. Anyways....I doubt kh3 is coming at all until 2015. Theyve been lagging on versus for a long time, how can they bring kh3 if versus is being used to promote kh3.

I'll be waiting to see what comes out from this. I haven't seriously paid attention to SE since back in 2006 for FFXIII(maybe a few TGS here and there), I actually stayed home from school to see it. I do hope they come to terms in order to address the issues that have been plaguing the series since the start of the 7th generation of video games(of course this is arguable).

I would love to see Final Fantasy go back to old school RPG's with the goold ole' ATB system or more action-styled battle system kind of like Oblivion or God of War. The way it is now you see all the cool flips and stuff in cutscenes and even in battles, but you don't actually perform them. You just click a button and your character does the animation. I think in this day and age something like that isn't impossible. The last few FF's have been sadly wanting and they need to change something if they want to keep their series alive.
:toldies::Wark!:

I think it fairly obvious by this point that the so-called "future" of Final Fantasy is nothing but a steady stream of poorly-designed JRPGs trapped by the legacy started by Final Fantasy VII of prioritizing graphics over gameplay, relying upon the nostalgia of the rabid fans who can't see further than the ends of their noses to ship millions of units and thereby keep Square Enix clear of complete insolvency. The upcoming console generation looks to be filled with disappointment - Microsoft have destroyed themselves even BEFORE E3 has started - and recent attempts at making anything even barely resembling a video game by Square Enix this generation have failed spectacularly. Not even SEGA did this badly with Sonic, and THAT is saying something.

If you have any hopes whatsoever for this presentation...well, have fun with that, and I hope you don't get too emotional when your hopes and dreams are brutally crushed by corporations who don't have a clue what their consumers want. This will be yet another disappointment in a very long line of them, and I don't see why there is any reason to think otherwise.
