Oh, I'm sure they'll find a way to export Lightning to some of their other future games in some shape or form even if they stick with what they have said and vow not to do another FFXIII game. I mean, we can't possibly extinguish that perfection, that majestic strength and that rose-scented personality without at least another decade of her.

Well, whatever comes out of this, it will be interesting to see. In the unlikely event that this is actually something worth waiting to see, that's a win for us...I suppose, though it is sounding increasingly less like a Star Ocean title and more like something socially-strategy orientated. In the likelier event that this will shatter people's hopes and plunge them into disappointment, the mild meltdowns will at least be enjoyable and a further lesson to them that they should have long tempered expectations.

I cannot wait for the sequels/spinoffs/prequels to "Star Galaxy", like Wood Trees, Water Ocean, Air Skies and Snow & Ice Antarctica.

just read this..... my slight hope for square to release a decent title are now gone

I laughed so much and so loudly .... Lol, Lol, Lol. Oh my gosh SquareEnix.... Oh my gosh...

I can't wait for FF 15 to be a flash game or cellphone game... FF 15 done Angry Birds style ! Gamplay : Throw the Chocobos at the Moogles !!! ROFL oh my gosh...

See? If anyone here actually had any expectations, I hope it hurts. I hope the knife pressed into your flesh is constantly twisted to give your further fresh agony in the wound area. You deserved the disappointment when in fact you shouldn't have expected anything.

Still, this sounds alright for the Yahoo online browser game it is. Christ, these sort of games are hugely profitable. Why bother with anymore HD games, portable games or localising things like Bravely overseas when these little games are like finding oil underneath your cornfield?

We can add this to that list earlier of teaser website announcements that have yielded virtually jack shit. And we can also assume that Tri-Ace are still left to do Toriyama's and Kitase's dirty work, making another sequel for Lightning. Well, I suppose after the mind-numbingly, terrible Star Ocean 4, karma bites them back in the arse somehow.

I wonder why SE is like this, seryously! What could it be? This level of incompetence is amazing, when was the last time this forums had overall love for SE? People say change is not bad, but they are SO wrong.

There's a market going on with the Angry Bird sort of gamer at the moment. People who buy Angry Bird Star Wars and such, because it's relaxing and fun. Square being them usual self's and not thinking about their own fans and their own market, think it's better to get some cash from the ios type gamers than please their own fanbase. Because $ in the bank is better than the fans that once upon a time loved them and got them to be successful, because they used to write beautiful JRPG stories. Now they just shit out crap.

However Capcom and Nintendo are doing the same. The Angry Bird gamers are imo killing the main video game market. Why make Megaman next adventure when you can have a awesome cellphone game ? Why have Star Ocean next story when you can have a Star Wars like cellphone game ? They don't care about fans anymore. Nintendo does a little bit. But $quare-Enix and Capcom ? Nah, money is where it's at.

Or, from a business point of view: these sort of games are quicker to make, cheaper to make and jaw-droppingly profitable. The sheer popularity of these kind of social flash browser or mobile games in Japan is countenanced by the number of subscriptions there are for these games even with people willing to spend small chunks of money at the time to buy and unlock virtual things in these games. Plus, let's also take a look at Final Fantasy XI Online - their most profitable Final Fantasy game yet. It is no wonder now why they wanted to repeat that overall success with a Dragon Quest MMO and yet another Final Fantasy MMO.

Unfortunately, they royally fucked up the second Final Fantasy MMO because the first producer in charge of it was either burnt out, just could not be arsed in general, or was chugging along on auto-flight mode until the end so he could get his generous pay cheque. Rather than leave it to die, which would look disastrous (not that they had much face left to save anyway, after releasing FFXIV in the state it was in), they sought to salvage it, thinking that in the long run, they would finally get profits from the game somewhere down the road.

And that's what they've been doing lately. They've rounded up all the available manpower they can get for this top priority re-launch and re-working. Other projects that were probably being worked on, like a purported game on the Unreal Engine were likely either stalled or cancelled outright to pull the Titanic out from the water. And while this has been happening, what's the best way to bring in some quick and easy money (other than being as economical as you can with FFXIII sequels?)? That's right. Loads of social and mobile games.

At this moment in time, the Japanese branches of the company don't care about us. They don't even fully care about their own audiences at this point because as far as they're concerned, your average casual Japanese gamer is a wonderful short-term gold mine to be harvested to manage their previously terrible management and to remedy the situation with an MMO they put too much money in to let it die like this. Maybe when FFXIV 2.0 is finally out and making money, which by then would probably hail the arrival of next-gen, we can go back to seeing Square-Enix shifting its priorities elsewhere to the newer and long-stalled projects.

I will tell you who in Square-Enix cares for us, and it's paradoxically not Square-Enix themselves per se. It's Eidos, IO and their games. You want me to name a GOOD Square-Enix game of this generation that isn't on handhelds? Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Just Cause 2. Sleeping Dogs. Probably Hitman Absolution. And coming up, Tomb Raider is looking just as sublime. The irony of this generation is, some of the best games HAVE come from Square-Enix, but not the right Square-Enix you're thinking of.
