For those of you who want to see what happens when you take Final Fantasy X-2 and update the character models, textures and environment models, Square-Enix has finally decided to release a batch of screens showing YRP in action. Unfortunately, Brother's HD model is not shown. I'm sure we'll all like to see how horrific he looks in HD.

By the way, I've never noticed before that Payne's eyes are...so red.

In case anyone needs a reminder:

Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster will be out sometime later this year for both the PlayStation 3 and Vita. Both games will be sold separately for the Vita.

Screens from Gematsu and NeoGAF

This is clearly not a copy paste article, but an original written piece. So miss Fleur have you actually played the game and perhaps even finished it?
I actually liked this game more than most people.

Disasterrific? Brother horrific? You are mean :(

The screenshots looks better than I expected :ohoho:

I have indeed played through FFX-2 from beginning to end at least twice. I've had this odd love-hate relationship with the game as the years have gone by. Being my first FF game and JRPG when I was 11 at the time, I was very fond of it, but then I began to grow excessively critical of it several years later. I think I've panned this game before in one of my old posts on this forum.

But I learnt to simply accept that I shouldn't take the game too seriously. And I have to admit, I do prefer its battle system to Final Fantasy X, so I can't hate it. My current stance on the game? I accept it's very cheesy and borderline awful in many places, but at the same time, it's one of my childhood icons. It has a place in my heart.

Now, the 100% thing. That's bullshit. I've always wondered whether Square would change the requirements needed to get the perfect ending without the bullshit such as READING EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF DIALOGUE AND WATCH EVERY SECOND OF COMMSPHERE FOOTAGE AS POSSIBLE WITHOUT SKIPPING ANY.

Honestly, those pics look hella dope! Everything looks really cool and more smoothed out with the HD graphics. These pics look better than the ones we saw for FFX IMO. Ehh... Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy the game (if you get it of course). These new graphics plus all the international stuff should make for a win. XD

I actually loved the CommSpheres haha. I also actually bought the walkthrough for FFX-2. I felt I was never forced to do these things to 100%, but I have to admit I was too weak to make it to the bottom stage in that dungeon. I finished the game on 99%.

I will do it 100% if I get the remasters hehe.

That dialogue with the old man (I cant seem to remember his name) must not be skipped and I admit when I did something wrong I had to reload my last save and endure the whole conversation again..he does have knowledge though. Hmmm.

Remember the stupid massage sequence? :lew:

Exciting stuff. The HD update looks good, along with the international stuff that'll be included (be it DLC or otherwise) will make it an awesome purchase imo. Loved the game(s) back then, and will more than likely love them now.
I agree with Liv though, I'd rather the 100% thing be less...strict. And I wish I left it until now to do it, 'cause there's bound to be a trophy for it. T'is a nightmare watching all those comm spheres.

isn't brother the creepiest person in the final fantasy universe? i mean jonesing your cousin that much is "creepy" at best.

This. I loved the battle system but couldn't play this game with the volume above 10. The girly giggling and prancing around.. oh wow. I think the story let me down slightly too. And am I totally deluded in thinking I fought Vegnagun at something like 40% completion? Is that possible or am I chatting absolute nonsense?

Not to mention Blitzball management sucked.. :(

Impressive! :) I also prefer these screenshots to the FFX ones. :lew: X-2 cannot compare to X though in terms of story, gameplay and characters.

I have wanted to replay X and X-2 for months... I wish we had a date!

99% is really good. I actually plan on following a guide to get the 100% ending since it will more than likely be required to get the platinum trophy. Yeah I only played it once and then 2 years ago I went back to it and finished it haha. I agree with you though. I have incentive to get the ending this time instead of watching it on YouTube like I did 2 years ago.

Yes, that part was just cringe worthy. Now you have it in HD ^^

I love the new graphics and models. Just beautiful. I must say the screens look better than the FFX HD remaster when I compare both. Either way I will get these sometime after launch.

I'm very impressed with the models. I can certainly see the difference in the work compared to the PS2 version.

However, FF X is my main priority for these remasters. Obviously, getting X-2 bundled is a good deal.

I didn't particularly like that game. I disliked near all of the main characters, and the battle system was the only good factor imo.

Still, it's looking very pretty. 0.0

They lok really good. I can't wait for this to come out, I really want to play it again. I managed to get 100% completion once, but then I lost my save, and I've never managed to get past 99% since. I've replayed that game about 5 times, I wanted to get them maxd out on every dressphere, and find everything in the game. It's one of the only games I've ever really wanted to fully and completely finish.

The only thing is...if the international stuff (for X) is on DLC I won't be buying it. I don't mind if the X-2 stuff is DLC, but I'm from the UK, and I already have the international version of X so if they want me to pay more money for something I already have, the graphics are not going to be worth it. I really, really hope they don't do that.

Like everyone else has said, I wouldn't call the screenshots "Disasterrific!" at all! Since X-2 HD came as sort of an afterthought, I was really expecting the improvements to be minimal, but these look great! I still wish SE would have built bumpmapping into the games since right now the smoothness is almost plastic-y, but that's better than the cardboard everything looked like before. It's kind of how I remember X and X-2 rather than how it actually looked on the PS2 :lew:

I hate to be a party pooper, but the difference isn't actually as profound as I initially thought. I couldn't find many comparisons at all, but the ones I found don't make the upgrades look near as amazing. There's not actually as much difference as I first thought. The lighting seems to have be the main upgrade, but X-2's graphics were pretty good already.

They seem to have done something weird to Paine's hair. Made her fringe shorter I think.

^
I think the lighting looks better AND the character models look better. The clothes don't look glued to the skin as much any more. Like the buckles on paines pants in the first picture you posted.
I am excited to play X-2 with better graphics and lighting.

Not so excited about X because I recently played though it haha.

Like everyone else has said, I wouldn't call the screenshots "Disasterrific!" at all!

I wasn't calling them "disasterrific". It's in the thread title as an allusion to the game. The alternative could have been a "GULLWINGS, WE ROCK YOU!!11" in the thread title, but I decided against that.

Anyway, here's a comparison between FFX-2 on the PCS2 emulator and the remaster:

It's interesting to see the noticeable facial changes. I can't seem to express what it exactly is at the moment (just woke up), but I honestly do prefer the PS2 emulator version. Notice also the sudden lack of texture on the railing behind them in the remaster.

And someone please give Rikku a burger or two.

Yes! ^ from that comparison the HD models actually look less detailed. The faces look flatter, there's barely a difference in the background texture (I'm guessing the railing is a mistake). Overall there seems to be less definition in the model's features...one thing that looks great is the curves, the arms and other body parts look much smoother. But the faces...

I'm hoping that's just a ba example, in the other shots there seemed to be more details in the faces.

My only surprise is, they actually made a remaster HD version of FF X-2?! Hot damn this game actually introduced me to the world of FF along with Kingdom Hearts! I know most hate this game but damn its fun to visit the first game that showed you RPGs XD
