This is one of the Hardest lists as i'm only allowing one per series which is annoying because otherwise i'd just put all my fave ff chars down. =[

Ok here goes.

1). Kefka, FFVI - Out of all my favourite Final fantasy characters i came to a conclusion yep it's kefka, He's insane, hilarious and everything he does makes me like him. He's the only Final Fantasy Villain to actually destroy the world and when he does he wants more destruction. For me that's awesome.

2). John Marston, Red Dead Redemption - Well he's a cowboy and for some reason he reminds of a certain someone who was in a lot of western films =P He is just awesome, also he's a cowboy who can stop the undead from rising and then ride death itself.

3). Gabriel, Castlevania: Lords of shadow - This is my favourite Castlevania game and i just admire Gabriel, he is willing to kill Satan to bring his wife back from the dead and i just admire him for doing that.

4). Altair, Assassin's Creed - Well this game started of the series and Altair is a true assassin unlike Ezio who runs around in heavy armour and has sword fights and fist fights with the pope. Altair is that awesome he cut off his finger (well he had to for the hidden blade but anyway.) and he doesn't seem to care, he wears light robes and only needs one hidden blade and a small choice of weapons.

5). Frank West, Dead Rising - He can pull out a zombies guts and beat them to death with any object. That is all.

6). Sora, Kingdom Hearts - He wouldn't be on this list however i learnt that he was originally gonna be a lion/human hybrid with a chainsaw.

7). Kratos, God of War - It would probably take me a long time so i'll just say one thing. He pins Zeus down and shoves a sword through him.

8). Ethan, Heavy Rain - Well seen as he's from heavy rain which is the only game where you can run around a mall shouting 'Jason!' he deserves to be on the list. Also he'll do anything to save his son's life and it provides entertainment while he's trying to do cut off his finger with a 'sharp, clean' object.

9). Duke Nukem - By this i mean from every game before Duke Nukem Forever which ironically the intials spell out DNF...... It takes a real man to kill an enemy then take a dump on it's head and Duke does that that's why he's on this list.

10). Snake, Metal gear solid - His names Snake, he can hide in cardboard boxes and if he did an Ad for smoking the tobacco companies would be rich. Who else can use cigarette smoke to detect lasers? Well probably a lot of people but snake does it awesomely.

1. Squall Leonhart (Final Fantasy VIII) - The kid makes having issues look SO GOOD.
...Okay, seriously, he's a much deeper character than people give him credit for and when you realize it, you actually come to respect the bastard.

2). John Marston, Red Dead Redemption - Well he's a cowboy and for some reason he reminds of a certain someone who was in a lot of western films =P He is just awesome, also he's a cowboy who can stop the undead from rising and then ride death itself.

^ Pretty much that.

3. Keats (Folklore) - THIS is how you do snark and witty cynicism without sounding like a prick. This is also how you do trenchcoat and glasses without looking like a total dweeb. And lastly, this is also how you crash a fixed trial and proceed to kick the judge in the face (figuratively).

4. Kanji Tatsumi (Persona 4) - With Kanji, games came very, VERY close to developing a character who perfectly embodies ones struggles with understanding one's own sexuality, without sounding like a caricature. A few more tweaks and they'd have made it. Kanji feels real, sounds real and best of all, he's still a hell of an awesome character. He PHYSICALLY beats the shit out of monsters and smashes chairs over them, he elevates sewing and knitting to manly forms of art and he has some completely sweet shirts. Not to mention some of the funniest lines in the game.

5. Ezio Auditore (Assassin's Creed 2) - You have to be at least a tiny bit funny in the head to do what he does in the course of 2 games, all the while with considerable style, finesse and wit. It's also a plus that he can swim. And it's hilarious to hear him deny the fact that he's gettin' old ;D

6. Dante (Devil May Cry series) - He makes snark, cheesiness and fighting hordes of demons fun. He makes that kind of clothing WORK. I don't know, it's hard to point out just WHY I like this character but I'll try to summarize it in 3 words: HE. IS. FUN. Pure, unmitigated fun.

7. Hewie (Haunting Ground) - He's a white german shepherd in a horror survival game and the ultimate best friend a girl trapped in a freakshow of a castle could have. Plus he's. so. cute!

8. Ashley Riot (Vagrant Story) - As I've stated elsewhere, he's the patron saint of utterly broken, overpowered characters, but you know what? In his case it WORKS, because the mission he's taking on is cut to his size and he's got to be able to donkey slap dragons through walls. And you know what? I'm okay with that, because he makes it feel fun.

9. Alyx Vance (Half Life 2 and Episodes) - Dear gaming developers and world: THIS IS HOW YOU MAKE A GOOD. FUCKING. FEMALE. CHARACTER. Please, learn from the joy and awesomeness that is Alyx. Your female characters need more brain, personality and loveliness without pandering!

10. Leon S. Kennedy - (Resident Evil 2 and 4) - Look, if you're going to be corny and pull out cliches, you want to do it the way Leon did; completely straight faced, AWARE of your cheesiness and not caring because you're very well aware of what you're doing and how it makes you look. I like Leon because he pulls off the special agent/operative thing without making a major fuss about it (like Snake does--shut up you fanboys). He actually takes a few pages out of James Bond's book and somehow I find myself respecting that. It puts a smile on my face and I like that. Besides...I really do believe that he's got the highest IQ of all the other RE characters collected. Especially Chris and Jill. Sheesh.

I have a list!

1. Link - The Legend of Zelda (series):
He is my all-time favorite character a hero. There are so many things I could say about Link that I just adore, but I'm gonna keep this simple: I adore Link so much because he is genuinely a good person. He doesn't have to do any of the stuff he does, the sidequests and such; he doesn't need to do that at all but he still does it because he knows it's the right thing to do. He's not thinking about him self when he does this, he thinks about the good it'll do to other people. The rewards he gets for doing the tasks he does are pree'much just a bonus for him. That's the way I have always portrayed Link and I am sticking to it!

2. The Happy Mask Salesman - The Legend of Zelda (series):
This is a seriously creepy character; he always smiles and he's always holding in this..inner rage and chaos within him. He's a very mysterious character and not much is known about him which is probably why I like him so much. He seems to be optimistic for the mere fact that he knows how messed up the world is. "Have faith, have faith." ♥

3. Albert Wesker - Resident Evil (series):
I adore genius-like characters and Wesker was quite the genius. He didn't use his smarts in the right way, but that's another story! There's something about his cold and selfish nature that has a certain draw to him. Maybe I'm just being a fanboy; but I gotta say that I admire a well-learned and trained man.

4. Kuja - Final Fantasy IX:
It makes me a little sad that just because Kuja is a feminine character, he's rarely taken seriously as a villain. I think he's fantastic. I like how dramatic he is, it's almost as if he's innocent-type evil. It's very hard to explain but I think he's a deeper character than a lot of people give him credit for you know? Looks aren't everything on a character--if anything, they should be the last thing to consider.

5. Bridget - Guilty Gear (series):
I like how cheerful and optimistic he is, I can relate to this character quite a bit; but that's another story. Hah.

6. Vaati - The Legend of Zelda (The Minish Cap):
Yet another mysterious character. I am drawn to these bastards! Anyways, the story behind this character is quite common but at the same time, maybe I like him so much because he managed to turn Zelda into stone. Hah. Also, I believe he is the only final boss in the Zelda series that has actually given me a hard time. That bastard took hits like nothing!

7. Sheik - The Legend of Zelda (Ocarina of Time):
Just know that I love him a lot. That is all.

8. Alucard - Castlevania (series):
For one: I am a sucker for an elegant man and for two, it takes a lot of courage to stand up against your Father and to do what is right despite of your Father's wishes. I admire that a lot and I think that makes him a fantastic character and--in their world--a great person.

9. Ash Crimson - The King of Fighters (series):
This man is mean, sarcastic and a great villain in my opinion. I like sarcastic characters, he doesn't seem to care about anything nor anyone but him self. I like that and I don't know why, probably because he doesn't allow anything nor anyone to stand in the way of what he wants. Regardless of him being a villain, ya gotta admire that type of attitude.

10. Hazama - BlazeBlue II:
Seriously another hilarious bastard. He's sarcastic, witty and one of the biggest trolls I have ever come across in the gaming world. I admit he's fucking hard to control but that''s another story. I like comedy relief-like characters like him that still have a major part in the plot.

This list might change, and I am probably forgetting characters but eh: it happens, right?

1. Yuna (Final Fantasy X)
She is so selfless and passionate, empathetic, strong and corageous. What I find particularly admirable about Yuna is a) she has strong emotions, but b) she will do her best to hide them if they will harm/worry others. This is part of what makes her a good leader.

She also respects her friends and never forgets to be grateful when others help her. She doesn't expect help, and she is gracious. She is extremely responsible; she really isn't your typical female victim. She needs saving once or twice, yes, but she takes responsibility for her actions and still does what she can to help herself. Not once did she sit by like Penelo, twiddling her thumbs as she waited anxiously for Tidus to save her. Nor is she like Aeris, needing someone to fight on her behalf. She uses the strength she has in tandem with the strength others have that she lacks.

2. Kreia (Knights of the Old Republic 2)
Her story was just fascinating, and boy was she hard to influence. :gonk: The challenge she presented to the gamer is part of what made her interesting. She felt the most real, the most fickle, and she said so many thought-provoking things. Here are a few notes I've found on Kreia that I agree with! :)
You are immediately arrested by how her voice captivates, beautifully and hauntingly rendered by Shakespearian actress Sara Kestelman. A voice that is leaden with age, weight, wisdom, and a profound sense of her own history. She was once a Jedi Master, and was once a Sith Lord

she embodies a great moral complexity. She is not a cliched villain, twirling her moustache and laughing wickedly as she does evil for its own sake. She is no villain at all, but neither is she a hero. Throughout the game she forces your character to think critically about seemingly straightforward moral judgements, good or evil, and implores you to consider the consequences, the echoes of your actions.

3. Glados (Portal, Portal 2)
Portal just would not be Portal without Glados' cool wit. The writer is a genius. Glados' lines are so deliciously cruel, and often reveal very silly or sad truths about humanity. Here are some examples. :)

GLaDOS: Did you know humans frown on weight variances? GLaDOS: If you want to upset a human, just say their weight variance is either higher or lower than the national average.

“...keep in mind that, like Albert Einstein and his cousin Terry, history will only remember one of you"

Then there are those which are just funny in the context of the game. :lew:

GLaDOS: Have I lied to you?
[pause]
GLaDOS: ... I mean, in this room?

GLaDOS: [the player is carrying a sphere that fell from GLaDOS] Maybe you should marry that thing since you love it so much. Do you want to marry it? WELL I WON'T LET YOU! How does that feel?

GLaDOS: Well done. Here come the test results: “You are a horrible person.” That’s what it says. We weren’t even testing for that.

4. Lulu (Final Fantasy X)
I didn't care too much for Lulu when I first started X, but the more I played, the more she grew on me. Underneath her cold exterior personality lies a bruised heart (gosh, that sounds cliche, but it's late here, so forgive me!) Despite what has happened in her past, she remains loyal to Yuna and secretly tender towards Wakka. She allows herself to soften as she talks more to Tidus, too, who I suppose offers a fresh, positive perspective on life. I loved watching her character develop. :)

5. Uncle Peyj (Beyond Good and Evil)
Gosh, what happened to him made me so upset! :gonk: He was so kind to Jade and did everything he could to help her. Finding out the truth about what happened, how he was involved, and knowing what COULD have happened... His character was just so selfless, so caring. He was an example of the perfect uncle and the perfect family member! :)

6. Laguna Loire (Final Fantasy VIII)
Laguna's story is rather bitty - I'd love to see more of it - but what we FFVIII shows is a caring, slightly silly, funny, good-natured man. He's passionate, loyal, strong, yet slightly awkward. Laguna's awkwardness makes him incredibly human. He's a solider, but he's not your typical 'buff' solider. He has a heart and he gets embarrassed.

7. Zelda (Skyward Sword)
My God, she's cute! Even though you only see a little of her at the beginning of the game, you can see that she's kind and gentle, and strong too; she stands up to the bullies. She respects those who are worthy of respect, but ignores those who aren't. She's a little naive, but eh. :monster:

8. Quistis (Final Fantasy VIII)
I found Quistis rather refreshing when I played FFVIII. She seemed so confident, strong-minded and determined. She was knowledgeable too. This, combined with her empathy, made her a good teacher. Later on in the game, when she reflects on her feelings for Squall, she also demonstrates vulnerability and thus her humanity.

9. Spyro the Dragon, in his original games!

I loved this little critter so much between the ages of about 9 and 12. I once read an article which described him as cocky, but I only thought this applied in the first game. After that, the new voice actor gave Spyro a more gentle personality. He seemed genuinely interested in helping those around him. He also demonstrates wisdom and maturity in Gateway to Glimmer and Year of the Dragon. In the latter, for example, he shakes his head at the ridiculousnes of Hunter when he flirts with Bianca... I am not very good at describing this! There's a fondness behind his gesture, but a sense of 'oh dear, look what Hunter's getting himself into now.' :lew:

Others worthy of mention:

  • Nathan Drake, Uncharted
  • Phoenix Wright. So intelligent, slightly cocky, yet sometimes he stumbles, which is hilarious.
  • Steiner, Final Fantasy IX. He's absolutely hilarious. :lew:

1. Freya Crescent (FF9) Freya is, by far and wide, my favorite video game character of all time, and for several reasons. For one, she is not your typical game girl. She is not eye candy except to furries (of which I am one, but that's not the reason she's my favorite). She is not a bubbly optomist, nor is she a brooding emo defeatist. She is a realist, and she is strong, not just physically but emotionally as well. She has suffered a number of devastating events
(The fall of Burmecia, the destruction of Cleyra, finding out that Fratley suffered from severe amnesia)
yet she continued to fight on for the sake of the world. She's also a key in my personal party. That Jump can be a life saver, and Dragon Crest can plow through bosses.

2. Jon Irenicus (Baldur's gate 2: Shadows of Amn) Jon is, hands down, the most badass villain in all gamedom. He has some of the most memorable lines, magnificent voice acting, cunning and manipulative. He is also among the most powerful spellcasters, able to level Sephiroth and Kefka along with being more powerful than Elminster. And Harry Potter and Voldemort would have to simply kiss their rear ends goodbye. he keeps his calm and focused demeanor throughout most of the game, only temporarily losing his composure towards the end, but quickly re-establishing himself. Video of Jon's badassness

3. Minsc and Boo (Baldur's Gate series) The most hilarious character ever made. Period, end of story. Everything he says will have you facepalming or laughing your ass off. He is a Ranger/Barbarian with a big sword, a big heart and a little hamster named Boo. He looks to Boo like one would look to a sage. He fights evil where ever it may lurk. Some of his most memorable lines when facing a foe is "Jump on my sword while you can evil. I won't be as gentle!" and "Minsc will lead with blade and boot! Boo will handle the details."

4. Amaterasu Okami (Okami, MvC 3) Being the wolf lover that I am, i was estatic when Okami came out. Finally, a game where the wolf is the hero and not a villain! Listening to Issun was quite funny, and Issun is a far better comranion than say Navi >.< The ink powers are awesome, and Amaterasu seems to be good hearted, fierce, a bit of a scatterbrain at times, and one who doesn't take guff from anyone, including Issun.

5. Midna (Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess) By far my favorite Zelda character. She's witty, adorable, and drop-dead gorgeous in her true form. I love the interaction between her and Link and how they seem to come closer to each other as the game progresses.

6. Kreia (Knights of the Old Republic 2) Much like Lirael stated, she is a character of balance who always forces the main character to act and think for themselves and to carefully consider each and every action. While she seems a bit manipulative at times, she is not truly good or evil.

7. The Bard (The Bard's Tale) Much like Minsc in the reason for my choice being humor, the Bard is a smartass womanchaser who bashes on all of the classic RPG cliche`s. he also has multiple arguments with the narrator voice, which is equally funny.

8. Morrigan (Dragon Age: Origins)Another smartass character, especially when Alistar is in your party. She's a bit self-centered and very witty, it becomes clear during the romance that she truly cares for the protagonist.
She is also key to preventing the Protagonist's death regardless of romance or not.
She is also a rather strong offensive caster.

9. Great Wolf Sif (Dark Souls) Sif's Intro Video Another magnificent wolf, only this time as an enemy. The guardian of his former master's grave. A very powerful foe to take on if you don't know what you're doing.

10. Alucard (Castlevania series) Despite his heritage, he stands firmly against his father and sides with humanity. While some see him as a mama's boy due to his constant talks about her during Symphony of the Night, he is strong, focused, and a gentleman.

Long list here i go XD

10 - Rydia (Final Fantasy IV)

much rather her kid form that her as an adult, but a very good character, i love the way she learns how to summon all the summons it pretty awesome, and the first bit when
wouldn't trust cecil cuz of him killing her mother

9 - Link (Zelda)

I only ever played one zelda game, that twlight princess but i watched parts of other games, I still don't understand how the hell he can be in every game but i guess that something I will never understand

8 - Crash Bandicoot (Crash Bandicoot)

Crash is just like awesome, the way he dies, the way he acts, and that awesome dance when he gets a gem in crash 3 is just proper awesome :D

7 - Vivi (Final Fantasy IX)

simple as vivi awesome, but i find the way vivi suffers in final fantasy IX pretty sad, a character i can seem to connect to. also I love the ways he fights in the game, the best black mage in final fantasy i thinks

6 - Sora (Kingdom Hearts)

Sora was I first character I liked sooo yh he must be in the list somewhere I love the way that in kingdom hearts one and he is determined to find his friends, that a dam good friend. also he was the first character to fight with a key, soo that gets my vote as well :)

5 -Garnet (Final Fantasy IX)

Garnet has a really nice concept, she also proves that final fantasy girls need not to dress like a slut to look beautiful :D soo yh garnet must be in the list somewhere :D

4 - Kairi (Kingdom Hearts)

Kairi awesome, brave, very cute in number 2 :3 and has a great personally, even to her apperence in birth by sleep she was awesome, soo she gets my vote

3 - Sonic (Sonic The Hedgehog)

Sonic is fast, quick, wicked personally and the games are just awesome, even sonic in sonic 06 wasn't that bad XD sonic has always been my best character from the mascot characters cuz i just think the sonic games are the best :D

2 - Rita (Tales of Vesperia)

i only discovered the tales games recently thanks to games on demand on xbox, and rita is just such an awesome character, her personally just awesome, all rude and hard to deal with but she has an awesome side, and i think she pretty cute as well :3

1 - Yuna (Final Fantasy X)

Yuna gets my number 1 vote anyday of the week :) thje way she carries on even when she knows that
she has to die to save the world, even then she still carries on
i just find that amazing, soo she gets my number 1 vote :D

ONLY TEN?! Oh boy, this'll be impossible... here it goes, in no particular order after 1 and 2--

1) Dante (Devil May Cry). I don't know why I love this guy so much... I think it's because he seems like somebody I'd want to hang out with and share metal bands with while eating pizza. He's pretty much the personification of 70s hard rock and he's also an SSS-rank master of not giving a fuck. I mean, who WOULDN'T want to hang out with Dante? Seriously. (And if you say "me!", you're lying.)

2) Rinoa (Final Fantasy 8). She gets a lot of hate, and I understand why, but I personally don't share the hate. I love her. She's my favorite game heroine because I love the way she was depicted. I'm pretty sure I've written this a million times before... but she's your typical upper-class teenage girl in a crazy situation. She doesn't always know how to handle it, which makes her more realistic and relatable. I think she's a fantastic character.

3) Heather (Silent Hill 3). I don't think I've ever witnessed such bravery in a character in any game, haha. She is put through the most horrifying shit imaginable, and while she DOES show fear, she doesn't lose her delightful snark and even after everything that happens she still continues onward (knowing it'll just get worse) because she knows she has to. And she doesn't dare sit and cry about it.

4) Amy (Soul Calibur 3 and 4). Out of the entire Soul Calibur cast, I'm most intrigued by Amy. I think she's really interesting-- she looks like this little goth princess, but she's got a sarcastic, take-no-shit attitude likely due to living on the streets before Raphael came along. It seems like Raphael's taught her well though... she's elegant and refined, but the edge is still there. Her SC3 design is also one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen in my life.

5) Rikku (Final Fantasy X). I've also written this a bunch of times already, but Rikku was hands-down my favorite character in FFX. At first she seemed cheery and energetic, but that cheeriness masked the really deep sorrow she constantly felt throughout the journey.
Her people were widely hated, she lost her home, and she went through 90% of the game believing her best friend was going to die.
And yet, still, she tried to retain an optimistic view of things.

6) Kratos (God Of War) . ANGRIEST PROTAGONIST EVER. That's all I'll say about that. :D

7) Isaac (Castlevania: Curse of Darkness). The game was a little tedious and repetitive, but hot damn I love Isaac. I will shamelessly admit that I had the biggest fangirl crush on him when I was 15. He has one of the most gorgeous designs I've ever seen and I'm pretty sure it paved the path for my (physical) taste in men in the following years (leather-clad, tattooed/painted, pierced), hahaha. He was just so fucking crazy. Also... Best. Laugh. Ever.

8) Sydney (Vagrant Story). There I go again with the leather-clad tattooed guys... but yeah, in all seriousness, Sydney's awesome. He's basically the physical embodiment of charisma and he has some of my favorite game quotes ever (the "hart and hunter" quote springs to mind). I was really fascinated by his character and typing this makes me want to replay the game right this second. :P

9) Revolver Ocelot (Metal Gear Solid series). Out of everybody in the MGS series, Ocelot piqued my interest the most, crazy psycho that he is :P. He's not just an excellent villain, but an excellent character overall.

10) Raziel (Soul Reaver). He had everything ripped away from him and yet he somehow managed to stay sane. I DUNNO MAN.
