[11/09] Final Fantasy Versus XIII in full production

If I recall correctly, Final Fantasy Versus XIII allows you to go anywhere but the mountains. I believe that was confirmed awhile back. :hmmm:

That would be cool :D though it'd look pretty strange on ps3, with a little Noctis taller than most cities in the world...

Nevertheless, I can't wait for it ;)

For me this is good news. As no lie, I've been looking forward to this game for a long time. I want to be open-minded and hopeful that since they are saying this game is going into 100% production mode that they plan on having it finished sometime within the next year.

However, the realist in me remember's what Ryan has already pointed out...that the game is still not in 100% production mode...but that they plan on going into it soon. So they really contradict what they are saying. Oh well. I hope so. I'll just take this as good news.

It'll have to be a ps3 exlusive from all this long story in versus. But if not then I guess I'd love it on the x-box aswell.

There is utterly no difference between XIII on PS3 and X-box and yet people complain about it. Just play the game and not care about what console you can play it. It just totally kills the mood for people to even play XIII.

Schweeeeet! :)
Don't suppose it explained just how open? like FFVII/VIII/IX open? or like FFX open. Or even better (but highly unlikely) Fallout 3/New Vegas open?

Old school Final Fantasy open world, like in FFVll or FFVl. I can't wait to hear more about this game though. I imagine it will be like Kingdom Heart, but with much better graphics and bigger open worlds.

People complain about XIII being on xbox because it was supposed to be bigger and better in every way, but it had to be dumbed down to fit on the xbox.
I heard (whether it's true or not, I don't know) that before it got chopped up for xbox it was going to be 3 discs long on PS3 and if THAT version were to be on xbox it'd be 10 discs long!

Speaking of all this multi-disc stuff. Is XIII-2 going to be multi-discs on xbox too?

I'm finding that really hard to believe. They made the games on the PS3 first, and the PS3's bluray discs can hold up to 25 gigs, while the Xbox's DVDs can only hold 4.3 GBs like any normal DVD re-writable disc. So let's add that together. Final Fantasy XIII was 3 discs on the Xbox, each disc being 4.3 gigs. That would be 12.9 GBs maximum. And the 3rd disc is usually the smallest, so it could have been between 9 to 12 gigs. So, you're telling me, that the "original" planned version of FFXIII was going to exceed 50 gbs to go on to 3 PS3 bluray discs? I don't think so. Wherever you heard that is probably full of crap and misinformed. It wasn't dumbed down to fit; it was dumbed down in the first place. That and the 360 isn't as good in the hardware parts as the PS3 is, so of course it's not going to look as good on it.

And to answer your question, FFXIII-2 most likely will take up multiple discs on the 360.

I know it wouldn't have actually been that big. But it was watered-down for the xbox. Both in terms of graphics and gameplay.

Gameplay on the Xbox version was exactly the same... Graphics, on the otherhand, were not.

Was it a noticeable difference? Were there lagging on the xbox? I havnt tried it..

Kinda glad it wasn't that long though, that can be equally annoying, the never ending game.

To be honest, I only played it on the 360 while I was at a friend's house. The game plays fine, though, and I don't remember it lagging at all. But I would rather have it on the PS3. Versus shouldn't get the 360 treatment. XIII took longer to come out because of it being ported to the 360. Imagine what that would do to Versus @_@

Significantly so, the PS3 version was running at 720p from what I can remember and certainly 1080p for CGI cutscenes and FLAC audio throughout the game. The 360 version was running at 576p which isn't even HD which is poor for any game nowadays.

If the game had open cities rather than straight lines throughout the game I could imagine it taking up 2 blu-ray disks since it was already 38GB in size which came down solely because of the graphics especially since there would be millions of cutscenes per city. However, could I see Final Fantasy XIII ever exceeding two dual-layer disks. No.

That's weird how it's that big :hmmm: Must be compressed on the disc, then. Does installing the game affect it in any way compared to playing off the disc?

I actually did end up downloading the disks to my hard drive for that game on my xbox because the load times between cutscenes and battle openings were pretty atrocious. I could only load two discs to the hard drive at a time, but doing so helped me waste a lot less of my time waiting for the game to load (and more time for me to waste playing it) :wacky:

...and at an attempt at staying on topic, I wonder when Versus is actually going to be released...and how much of it is actually completed. I'm really hoping for a release in the next year...but I'm pretty sure that's not even possible for SE :wacky:

Last time we heard from Final Fantasy Versus XIII, the game wasn’t yet in full production. At the time, only the team’s core staff were working on it. Quizzed at a recent fan meeting, Final Fantasy XIII-2‘s Motomu Toriyama and Yoshinori Kitase confirmed the game is now in full production.
Toriyama confirmed it? Abandon hope, all ye who enter here.

Type-0 and Versus XIII have of course advanced to 100 percent development power,” said Kitase during the roundtable.
With Type-0 taking priority, since Versus is a myth and Square Enix are incapable of multitasking.

Just wait until Square Enix decides on their next video game. That'll get priority over Versus immediately, and we'll go back to 55% development power, or some other equally obscure percentage that makes it sound as though Square Enix are at least trying to work on it.
