If you guessed the Duodecim Prologus trademark was for a paid demo, you were right! Square Enix formally announced Dissidia Duodecim Prologus at their press event. It’s coming to PlayStation Network now and it exclusively adds Final Fantasy VII character Aeris as an assist character to the final game.

Dissidia Duodecim Prologus will have an original short scenario (read: short storyline) and arcade mode. You can get Dissidia Duodecim Prologus for 300 yen ($3.75)

Clarification: If you buy Dissidia Duodecim Prologus you can use Aeris in the PSP game, Dissidia 012[duodecim]: Final Fantasy.

Source: Siliconera

[UPDATE:] Two new fighters were confirmed for the game: Gilgamesh from Final Fantasy V and Prishe from Final Fantasy XI.

Aeris as an Assist character? What could she possibly do? :wacky:

Also correct me if i'm wrong but does that mean she'll be an actual playable character as well in Duodecim, providing we buy this demo? And if so, is there any plans so far for a EU/US release?

I kinda took from it that maybe she actually assists another character somehow during a battle but they they took a step back and realised that if you buy Prologus you'll get her as a full character. Unless when they mean "assist" they mean she won't be in the final game but you can get her if you buy it. Honestly, I have no idea. :wacky:

Also, I had to add an update since Siliconera didn't report that bit :hmph:!

Oh HELL YEAH I knew Gilgamesh would get in :ryan: following the theme of characters wanted for Dissidia getting in Duodecim :mokken:

I dunno who that FF11 guy is, but presumably that's our full cast now :hmmm:

I hope they clarify on the Aeris bit, if only for the FF7 fan's sakes :lew:

I knew Gilgamesh will make it to the roster, but Aerith as a playable character now that's a shocker! I never expect Square-Enix to add her into the roster after Tifa's confirmation. As for Prishe, it is a fine choice for a Final Fantasy XI representative. Things are getting more interesting as the time passes. This is awesome!

Wait Aerith as a playable character? It says assist but if she is a playable character in the final game then wow that really is shocking. Gilgamesh an Prishe(doesnt know who the hell that is) confirmed? Cool I guess. Gilgamesh was bound to make it anyway. I knew it.

Edit: I think she is just an assist character according to Andriasang

The Dissidia Duodecim 012 Final Fantasy Prologus download cost is 300 yen which is $3.70 in US dollars. I'm not sure when it is available to download in the US but it is already downloadable in the Japanese Playstation Network.

IT'S ABOUT FUCKING TIME! :rage:

...OK, Dissidia 2 is sold for me. I'd hope they'd have more than just Gilgamesh in it for new villains (dunno who Prishe is, and don't care either) but I'll take what I'm given~

Prishe doesn't phase me but I'm very happy about Gilgamesh, though I can see many FFS moments if Excalipoor comes into the fray. And Aerith as an assist character makes sense I guess, but I'm suprised Yuna didn't join that rank with her. I wonder if this is gonna open a new book of more characters to be added not to the rooster, but for story (along with Assist I guess) purposes.

Assist?! More like a meat sheild against Sephiroth. Hearing that Gil is in this game definitely makes me want more. I'm keeping my eyes on this one...Even though I wasn't too keen on it before.

Paying for a demo. :hmph:
However, if you get bonuses from doing so I'm not overly bothered, Aerith/s is one of my favourite characters. (Although a bit confused as to if she's actually gonna be playable or not, if not I'll wager at a Great Gospel assist)

I have no idea who Prishe is, but then again I didn't know who Shantotto was and I do now, so it's not all bad. Looking up at least.

Gilgamesh. At last. I now expect some plot where he ends up with Excalipoor to some comedic effect. Prishe, no idea who that is either, and nor do I care. As for Aerith well, it's interesting that she's an assist and Yuna isn't. Because of the fighting nature of the pair of them, I would have thought having both of them as secondaries would make a bit more sense.

Oh you suck, SE. And well, I think someone did guess that it would be a demo or something similar back in that trademark thread, so that person gets the satisfaction of being right.

Yeah, I heard about that. I knew Gilgamesh would be in it, that doesn;t surprise me. As to Prishe, who no one has heard about (cause no one has XI) I checked the wikia, she's an Elvaan in the game, has a Dual Job class (White Mage and Monk) So....Yuna/Tifa hybrid?

I hope so too :sad3:

Ditto :sad3:

And Aerith won't just be a meat shield :rage: she's a magic user, remember, people. She can cast all sorts of magic/summons and she has a lot of special and strong abilities. I mean, one of her limit breaks can make you invincible. :hmph: No matter what, I'm happy :yay:

I sense vast quantities of wank in this sector :wacky:

I think Aerith is going to be a great assist, and I am glad or at least as far as my knowledge goes that no one will be able to beat her to bloody pulp.

Now, Dissidia can be interesting...for once.
I have to wonder why wasn't Yuna the same as Aerith though?

I MUST GET A PS3. :rage:

I wonder for how long that'll be available on the PSN cause I need a PS3 anyway but I defo want Aerith. /fangirlasm.

Wait, PS3? I thought this was for PSP. O_O Please say it is still being planned for PSP, not PS3. Oh well, it'll give me another reason to buy a PS3. *Re-reads article*

PlayStation Portable owners can hop on to PlayStation Store today for a demo of Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy. But don't go hopping anywhere without some yen in your wallet! The Duodecim demo is premium!

Titled Dissidia Duodecim Prologus Final Fantasy, the demo will set you back ¥300. Your three coins will get you two modes of play: story mode and arcade mode.

Arcade mode lets you experience battle against the CPU. The demo offers the full battle system, but does not offer any sort of customization component.

Story mode lets you play an original short scenario that connects to the main game. The scenario will not be included in the final release.

You'll find some other connective elements with the final release outside of just the story. You'll be able to carry accessories over from the demo. Having a demo save file will also give you access in the final version of the game to to Final Fantasy VII heroine Aerith as an assist character. The character is not included in the demo.

The announcement of Prologus came today at Square Enix's 1st Production Department Premier event. The event also saw the unveiling of a new trailer which showed off Final Fantasy X's Yuna in playable form for the first time since her recent Jump Magazine reveal. Yuna's voice actress was confirmed to be Mayuko Aoki, the same voice actress who portrayed the character in FFX.

At least one new character was revealed for the game. The trailer showed Final Fantasy XI's Prishe in CG form. In addition to this, Square Enix fan site FF-Reunion, covering the event live, reports that it saw some hints at the Gilgamesh character in the trailer.

The new Duodecim trailer is set to be posted to the game's official site in high resolution on the 27th, so you'll be able to judge for yourself if there are any hidden character hints.

Duodecim is due for release on March 3.

Originally, that's what I thought too. It doesn't overly bother me since I won't get in anyway but I think you could kind of treat Aerith as DLC which could sort of balance it. It depends how you try and look at it. :wacky:
