"Confirmed for 2011". What implications would that have?

+ Cut content. Considering that FFXIII took so long to make in itself, seeing the announcement of a sequel (and a tentative release date) like this so soon would ordinarily make no sense. That is unless you consider the amount of cut content you could throw in, that SE could have done in the first game, or even as DLC. There has to be a lot of a cut content in this one, though adapted to be sequel-worthy. They did say that they cut out enough content to make an entirely new game in itself.

+ Improvements. Overhauls. If the game is to come out so soon, how much time does it allow them to have in overhauling a lot of the gameplay aspects? FFXIII was weak in gameplay in my opinion. The battle system was decent I must say, but the linearity did hurt the experience. With a sequel out this soon, I can't imagine that there will be many changes. It may just be like its older brother only with cosmetic changes and all that.

+ The relationship between SE and release dates. Can SE stick to a 2011 release date? Do they normally stick to early release dates? Don't they normally delay their games? Like I said before, they usually like to take their sweet time in games. This one seems awfully...quick. It doesn't exactly inspire much confidence from me when I consider this. 8(

So with those three points above in mind, I'm very wary of this sequel. I know I shouldn't compare it to FFX-2, but I can see some recycled locations like Archylte Steppe make a comeback. As for the narrative, I would like to see what they can come up with this time. The ending of FFXIII wasn't spectacular, but it did the job well, closing it off enough. FFXIII does not need a sequel. I'll keep an eye on this to see how it goes, but if I'm not impressed, I may skip this one. FFXV now sounds like it will take another 15 years to come.

I'm just curious to know what kind of bullshit narrative they're pulling out of their asses this time to explain the silly armor. If it really is coming out this year then would it kill them to show in game footage? You know, to sort of show us that they really mean to deliver an improved product instead of making us think Lightning is a cosplayer now?

Did you even play the game. As not to ruin it for others who havent, the lower world isnt advanced. Essentially, they are starting over, hence, possibly explaining the armor. Its not a huge leap by any means.

No wonder SE is having such a hard time trying to find what audience to cater to, the majority of posts here are just pointless bitching over such minute details.

FFXIII wasnt the greatest in the series, but it did have good aspects as well. Expect a more open, fleshed out experience in this one. It will be the opposite of FFX and X2. X was much more fleshed out and FFX2 was more of a side story (which had slightly improved graphics, an awesome battle system).

Some of you people need to lighten up and at least give things a chance. At least get some actual details before you start bashing. It's been said already too that they are taking alot of feedback from fans regarding the first game.

Really happy about SE actually confirming an FFXIII-2.........But I dont even know whether to be happy about the release date I know nothing about game development.........But a late 2011/early 2012 release date sounds like once again their gonna rush this.

Thye spent years and years on FFXIII........and of course some parts of the original could be used in this, but if you ask me the odds of this game being a failure is HUGE!

Anyways I am happy for an FFXIII sequel but dont really know if this is even gonna be as good as the first (which most people seem to hate)..........After looking at the new pictures it could kinda end up having the same reaction as FFX-2. But this time the main character won't be branded a whore even though Light does reveal some more skin here :hmmm:.

I am a dope because I disliked 13 (relative to other FF's), but I am in on this. If they address the fan's concerns than this game could be sweet. There was lots of things they did right in 13, just more they did wrong.

I am also in on ff13vs.

Honestly, I love FFXIII, despite what others say. So, the fact that XIII-2 has been made official, I am not only excited about it, but I'm also a wee-bit curious to what content we can get. Though, I believe this could be much more welcomed as a DLC pack, but you know XD

It's X-2 all over again gaiz. I wanna take a stab at Light running around Pulse trying to find some way to try and
uncrystallize Fang and Vanill
and thus the whole game will be a Light only narrative of her inner battles and conflictions from two years ago. :wacky:

2011, srsly? That just can't mean anything good.

Apparently dressing Lightning up in some pretty feathers and a metal bustier is going to help SE sell more copies of XIII-2...because who knows what the story itself is going to be like :wacky:

No offense, but pre-judging the storyline of a game based solely on how the lead character is dressed is as silly as judging a book by its cover. I remember back when FFX-2 was announced and the first pics of Yuna in her short-shorts appeared. So many people began complaining or decided outright that the game was going to "SUCK" just because Yunie had ditched the Summoner's robes for something more J-pop glam. Well, I don't want to speak for others, but I greatly enjoyed X-2. The theme was much more lighthearted overall than FFX and incorporated cheesy elements, but that was specifically by design. Its storyline and gameplay weren't awful by any means, IMHO.

No one's going to care if more of one of Lightning's legs is showing when they're immersed in fighting C'ieth or whatever other enemies Squeenix throws at us this time around. And to be brutally honest, sex sells and showcasing the attractiveness of a character -- female or male -- is a staple of the videogame industry.

Did I think FFXIII was perfect? No. Did I think it was Squeenix's best effort? No. Did I enjoy FFXIII and do I want FFXIII-2 to succeed? Yes and hell yes.

As all of you now know, I hated FFXIII, and being the genius that I am, knew this pile of shit sequel was coming. Now, I know we're all going to repeat a certain pattern here. "Oh, Ringo, you haven't played it yet, herp derp, you can't judge it."

You guys remember that, I do. Then on release day... SURPRISE! It was shit, just as I had been saying... Oh, I don't know... Since a month before it was released in Japan.

SE lost a lot of respect when they released 13. Fans are already raging that a company would be stupid enough to pull the same mistake they made with FFX-2. And then do it with a game with such as mixed reputation as FFXIII.

With the somewhat failure of XIII, the failure that is FFXIV, they're really trying to rake in some cash. So, here you have it, ladies and gentlemen. The game that I was telling HisAirness about.

Final Fantasy XIII-2: The Search for More Money

Meh, I liked FFXIII, so I'll give this a chance to whoa me like the first game did. I hope those feathers aren't just gimmicky-I'd be interested to see what Lightning dearest has been up to :wacky:

And I won't lie-hot antagonist/rival love interest for Lightning makes me go "ooooooh ♥".

In my sleep-deprived delirium after watching the stream, I thought it was Odin xD

I still don't expect this game for a long while. Maybe it'll be 2011 Winter for Japan, and what the hell, maybe we get it in March '012, that way there's an exact 2 years gap between the first and second game?

As for comparisons to FFX-2, I've often said I hated the story and Yuna's characterization, but I can't lie-it was a fun game to actually play. At the very least I suspect the same here.

I really hope they can redeem themselves from XIII. Apparently you enjoyed it and I'm so happy that you did...however many of us did not and I don't think I'm alone in my statements of being critical of this sequel, especially when they are releasing it about two years after the original i.e. how different is it going to be when they put that small an amount of time into its production?

...and yes, sex does sell, unfortunately. So that is why I made the statement about dressing Lightning up. I don't really care how a character dresses. If they think however, that dressing her up in a new "sexy" outfit is going to sell another story that is something less than to be desired with for the most part button mashing gameplay, the thought is, well...laughable. But, knowing SE, they will try it.

Also, I said I would give it a chance if it was improved from the last...So I don't have completely negative views on XIII-2 and one can understand why I am weary of a sequel, unless you are biased and on the side that actually enjoyed the original.

Thank you for the civil reply. :) Like I said, I also didn't think XIII was perfect. Far from it. But yes I did like it overall, and FYI, *everyone* is biased... doesn't mean I can't understand your point of view on something. Whether or not I liked XIII, I fully acknowledge the problems many people (myself included) had with it. Hopefully, Squeenix learned from their mistakes. At the very least, I really hope they enter the 21st Century and start incorporating some of the features and gameplay elements that make BioWare the current King of RPG makers, while retaining that unique Final Fantasy flair. :)

Let's hope I can get a PS3, I usually love the Final Fantasy's everyone hates. ^^

I'm sure this is just a quick little cash-in, for some quick profit, all they really have to do is take the areas and characters from FF XIII and just add new story, customization, weapons, but I'm sure it won't be too much, if it's going to be out next year in 2011. Let's hope it lives up to the Final Fantasy name, unlike it's older brother, FF XIII.

Is this going to be a more mature darker themed game ?
I mean we see Lighning's backside which I assume was done to stimulate the fanboys into spastic dreams at night and rushing out to purchase the game to fulfill their fantasies.
Another way to draw young males in with lightning as a sex object.

Hrumpf.

The people who didn't like Yuna's transformation in FFX-2 won't like this one either I bet.
For me that transformation was understandable.
I feel I might have more of a problem with this one.

Maybe the Maker returns and the falcie's fantasies get fulfilled.

How would one deal with the being who created everything.Their version of God ?

Might make an interesting game.
If handled properly.
I don't trust Square to handle it properly.

They are pushing it to fast!

Its bad enough they announced it too close to the other, but 2011? Really? It took them 4-5 years to make the last, and 1-2 years to make a second?

Now I know they were trolling us and wanting us to buy everything they said.

Stupid money-grubbers! :C

for it to come out as soon as 2011 this is gonna be a HUGE recycle of locations, etc.
Not that it makes me mad or anything, Maybe this time they'll listen to the fans and expand on towns and have actual NPC's with a little incite on things in town that you can actually interact with.
I'm actually kinda excited considering I don't do PSP games, and that would be the only other platform I can be Lightning on. I'm happy, but this seems REALLY soon..

I'm gonna agree about the recycled landscape bit. While FFX-2 came out 2 years after FFX, anyone whose played the game knows that majority of locales was more or less the same, with just some additional areas thrown in. I suspect the same here.

I wonder if any parts of Cocoon will be playable...

I'd rather they take their time if they are going to be doing a sequel. Listen to the fans, we don't want another liner game with no towns, NPCs, shops, worldmaps or anything like that.

We want our old FF element in this. They could at least include that...

As some of you already know, I'm a lover of Final Fantasy XIII, but there are some things I'd like to see an improvement on in the sequel, which Sonny's already put into words really. But anywhore, I'll natter on.

A slightly more open world. Not necessarily a world map, but something in the vein of Final Fantasy XII's location design, with the open areas and the whole design that makes it so there's more than one way in and out of an area.

Secondly, add in a few optional dungeons for a little oomph. Final Fantasy XIII had optional locations, yes, but the linear nature of the game did leave areas like the Yaschas Massif and the Faultwarrens feeling a little ephemeral and detached from the game in general, despite the addition of Fabula Nova Crystallis elements such as the Fal'cie Titan and Ci'eth.

Thirdly I'd like to see towns, though that might be unlikely if they set it as soon after Final Fantasy XIII as the novella would suggest. It takes a while to establish civilization like that so soon after what was practically an apocalypse, I understand. So instead of towns, maybe safe areas where the party could rest up, get a little dialogue, maybe? A breather every now and again would really give the characters a little time to flesh out, have a little banter, and let those of us who enjoyed the original's characters get even more immersed, and maybe even persuade those who weren't impressed to scratch the surface and see a little humanity beneath the archetype. :ryan:

Next, I want to see a slightly better set of villains. I wouldn't go so far as to say they were terrible, but they were weak when compared to the greats of the Final Fantasy series, such as Kefka, Ultimecia, Kuja and Vayne. A good villain exists as an adversary to the heroes, someone I can really despise yet sympathise with in equal measure, and there was too much of a monstrous quality to Barthandalus and Orphan to either make me despise or sympathise with them. I want charismatic. I want dark. I want a unique personality. I want someone I can love hating, or hate loving. I want a villain I can feel passion and drive for, more or less.

In minor changes, I want Serah as a playable character. :hmph: Or at least getting a major supporting role. Laura Bailey is a fantastic actress, and I'd like to see a little more of the character unlocked and put to the test in different situations. She played her part as the damsel in distress brilliantly; but to put her in that kind of role again would be to typecast her as helpless, and it would be a bit of a plot recycling.

As for this rival to Lightning... :ryan: I really can't see any more than that. It's going to be a really passionate rivalry as far as I can see, and as I've said in another thread, I hope there are a few one on one duels with good use of the Paradigm system.

Maybe the rival isn't a rival but is actually the game's antagonist? I think we can all agree it's early to make assumptions, but I like that a hawt guy is getting so close to Lightning's personal space, so I'm hoping for some tasteful sexual tension :wacky:

(My heart's really set on the dude actually being Odin. If nothing else, it woud match the psuedo Valkyrie image of Lightning she's got going on in the game, plus what she already had in FFXIII. I think it would just be the most lulziest but brilliant plot bit EVAR :8F:)
