Square Enix's remake of Final Fantasy X has re-emerged after over a year in the shadows, making an appearance at a Japan-centric Vita Heaven event that ran through forthcoming releases for the struggling handheld.

First announced at TGS in 2011, there's been nothing shown on Final Fantasy X HD since its reveal. Although there was no word on a release date as the game broke cover today, there was the briefest glimpse of it in action as a number of character models were shown off. Famitsu was quick-fingered enough to grab a handful of screens of FFX HD in action.

Elsewhere, the event was packed with an assortment of Monster Hunter clones already announced for the machine, and ones that have little chance of making it outside of Japan. Perhaps of most interest was Dragon's Crown, the sublime looking side-scrolling RPG being developed by Vanillaware that follows in the footsteps of Saturn favourite Princess Crown as well as the developer's own Muramasa: The Demon Blade.

The biggest news, however, was the price-cut for the PlayStation Vita that's to take hold at the end of the month. Will we be receiving similar news come the PlayStation meeting in New York this Wednesday?

So...am I the only one that really can't see the difference between the original and the HD picture? I swear they look exactly the same...

But Congrats Square for finally mentioning something that your fans wanna hear about. (y)

So out of an embarrassingly awful "Vita Heaven" show with no new announcements and an array of Monster Hunter clones (the equivalent of spawning five modern warfare military FPSs in a row if this were an occasion for western games), THIS was the highlight?

I mean, kay, good on SE for remembering that this exists, but they only showed character models and nothing else. Please say you didn't wet your pants with excitement over this?

Give it up to five more years for this to come out. I suspect for TGS they will show a 10-second clip of a Blitzball game going on...

fast track an FFXII IZJE HD release pl0x. That would be a lot more enticing.

The difference doesn't jump out as vividly as it does for Wind Waker HD, but the upgrade of the models is definitely noticeable, even if it looks like they were just squeezed through an emulator.

FFX was a very nice looking PS2 game too, so they really didn't have to do much, just clean up what they had. I find it kinda funny how in the youtube comments some people are raging it's not as big of a jump as FFIV made when they redid it. I honestly did need to look at a comparison to see the difference myself too.

I'm still excited to be able to play this game on my Vita. The only two games I have for it (physical copies anyways) are remakes/ports/whatever.

Yeah no. It doesn't really look like much of a improvement to be honest. I was sort of expecting graphics that just make you jump out of your seat in shock because it's such a improvement and upgrade from a decade ago, but yeah it sort of looks like the same almost.

Keeping in mind that this is from a low-quality stream and being shown on a Vita, the quality of the models is probably not shown very well.
Either way, though, there's a difference and I'm excited for this to finally come out.

After playing some of FFX not too long ago, and noticing that the graphics were starting to date (and I'm not fussy with graphics) this is a huge improvement. Go back an play some of the original and you'll definitely notice the difference quite a bit :hmmm:

It looks like they just upped the low-quality models from the original game. Why couldn't they just replace all the low-quality battle models with the higher-polygon cutscene models the game already used? They were beautiful!

I mean, just look at Lulu's high-polygon PS2 model in HD (through emulator):

I feel like they could have just used those throughout the entire game rather than just in certain cutscenes -- since the PS3 and Vita's hardware could probably handle all those nice models at one time.

The shadow in the original is overbaring. You can see the lack of excessive shadowing in the vita version. They onlt refined the graphics, not a complete remake of it.

tbh, i think it a huge upgrade, just looking at the hair, it looks way better than the original.... i'll try and pull up a battle shot from the emulator and show my point

Upscaled to 1080P

now say there not a difference

So its being upscaled to 1080p and not 720p nice indeed. Upscaling isnt tht marvelous anyway just look at any COD. Usually when they upscale they tend to forget to do CGI cutscenes (at least with splintercell) but I wont buy this because of better graphics. I will buy this beauty just for the sake of being able to play it on PS3 slim!

SE had to upscale it to make it look good on a HD tv I think. I think ppl are having too much expectations.

Any words on the extras btw? Or will it have the exact same content?

Gotta admit I was expecting all-new, current-gen geometry and shading--like the difference between Halo and Halo: Anniversary--but I'm ok with this. The difference to me was noticeable right away, although I had to look at a comparison to really appreciate it. I'm still seeing a lot of polygons and textures lacking shaders (can we have some bloom and bumpmapping...please?) which is disappointing, but I guarantee you it won't bother me one bit once I put that disk into my PS3 and fire up the game.

Now if they would just give FFXII the same treatment...its graphics were outstanding for a PS2 game, so honestly I'd be satisfied with just a straight port rendered in HD.

Is this actually news? I thought we would see more but whatever. I do notice a difference in the character models. Yuna looks much better than before. Personally I want to see her model on the ps3 version because the vita version looks just a little bit of an upgrade to the models. I do miss Final Fantasy X and it would be nice to play it again, but unfortunately there are so many games that have my attention and I would probably only pick it up for 20 bucks. If there are actual changes besides just a HD port? Well, I would obviously be much more interested.

This was definitely nothing exciting or even worth a news article.

I wouldn't say it isn't worth a news article. This is a game that many of us have been eagerly anticipating, and after such a long silence any mention of it is news. That's what we wanted to know: if there was any word on FFX HD. Well, this may just be worth one word, but it's still a word on it.

Oh, and on a graphical note, also pay attention to the shadows. They're actually traced now instead of the ugly gray octagons they were before.

Not only was this from streaming footage and it looks better, but some of you may want to go back and play the game. The textures are going to be MUCH more clear and not as muddy.

SO much this!!!
I'm excited for the FFX HD release - It's one of the main reasons I got a Vita. I game on the move A LOT, this is my 2nd favorite FF and I can't wait to play it all the time. Honestly, I'd be excited if they just ported FFX - I appreciate the graphics boost, but they better include the Dark Aeons or I will be let down.

I also agree to this. But hopefully they will, if they including final mix of kingdom hearts in kH 1.5 HD remix, then why not this?
