A little piece of me came back alive when I first saw this. Like several others, I didn't ever completely believe the rumors, but after so long I had just enough doubt in SE to make me worried.
Will Versus XIII put SE back on top in everyone's eyes? Not singlehandedly, no. But everything we've seen of the game thus far has shaped it up to legitimately be the best FF we've seen in a long time. The more urban, sci-fi environment should please FF7 fans, the FF12-like battle system will please technical combat junkies, and though we don't know enough to make any early judgments about the story, it appears to also be a cut above the last few entries to the series.
Bear in mind I like FFXIII and its sequel, and don't really feel like SE has fallen from grace. So with all that coming from me, you know I'm saying this game is really something worth being excited about.
Now I just hope they hurry up and get it finished so that I can be proven correct
Actually saying you enjoyed ff13, means you have lower standards. And therefore thats saying i'm saying alot for this one vampire story because i enjoyed twilight. see?
Overall the gameplay isn't like ff12. Its alot closer to kingdom hearts. Despite that, i'm more curious and interested in seeing this new style this holds. though i've seen various artistic scenes. I fail to see enough to satisfy me. But i'm sure we will.
It all depends though, if this is closer to steampunk than a pure sci-fi. I am hoping for more western designs in this particular game.
By all means, who are you kidding? SE makes more than just FFXIII. They published Nier, which while sold terrible, became a cult hit. Essentially all of their DS and PSP games were great (besides the story of The 3rd Birthday but thats also subjective), Star Ocean The Last Hope sold ok and mainly had good things said about it, FFXIII and FXIII-2, besides your undying hatred for it got mostly favorable reviews and sold well. The Last Remnant, from those I know who have played it, liked it alot once you had the option to install it as it reduced alot of the loading and stuttering. Infinite Undiscovery got a blah, but that's really about it. And their iOS games got some fairly decent praise (though I find them overrated but that's one's opinion against the many). Not to mention the Eidos side (which that studio has said they share the work and decision making).
So really, SE hasnt been this pile of garbage you like to make it seem, this gen. So as you say, what's keeping FFV13 from being garbage, we havent seen much. On the same token, what really has been shown or said about it to make it seem bad? Absolutely nothing. Talk like this is nothing but and it makes it seem like you dont want it to succeed no matter what.
Im gonna laugh though if they connect it directly to FFXIII, like when they are in the crystal state or something, they go to the world of Noctis. I mean Lightning technically plays a big role in the whole grand scheme of things, being the warrior goddess and all. Considering all the uproar FFXIII gets over a single strand of hair being out of place, I could only imagine the over exaggerated claims that would come from that.
I doubt they will link it to FFXIII. They are really vague about FNC taking place in the same universe. Its more like they share the same mythology that was revealed a while back but each hold their own universe.
