[24/07] Square Enix smashes rumors of Final Fantasy Versus XIII’s cancellation

A little piece of me came back alive when I first saw this. Like several others, I didn't ever completely believe the rumors, but after so long I had just enough doubt in SE to make me worried.

Will Versus XIII put SE back on top in everyone's eyes? Not singlehandedly, no. But everything we've seen of the game thus far has shaped it up to legitimately be the best FF we've seen in a long time. The more urban, sci-fi environment should please FF7 fans, the FF12-like battle system will please technical combat junkies, and though we don't know enough to make any early judgments about the story, it appears to also be a cut above the last few entries to the series.

Bear in mind I like FFXIII and its sequel, and don't really feel like SE has fallen from grace. So with all that coming from me, you know I'm saying this game is really something worth being excited about.

Now I just hope they hurry up and get it finished so that I can be proven correct :)

Actually saying you enjoyed ff13, means you have lower standards. And therefore thats saying i'm saying alot for this one vampire story because i enjoyed twilight. see?

Overall the gameplay isn't like ff12. Its alot closer to kingdom hearts. Despite that, i'm more curious and interested in seeing this new style this holds. though i've seen various artistic scenes. I fail to see enough to satisfy me. But i'm sure we will.

It all depends though, if this is closer to steampunk than a pure sci-fi. I am hoping for more western designs in this particular game.

By all means, who are you kidding? SE makes more than just FFXIII. They published Nier, which while sold terrible, became a cult hit. Essentially all of their DS and PSP games were great (besides the story of The 3rd Birthday but thats also subjective), Star Ocean The Last Hope sold ok and mainly had good things said about it, FFXIII and FXIII-2, besides your undying hatred for it got mostly favorable reviews and sold well. The Last Remnant, from those I know who have played it, liked it alot once you had the option to install it as it reduced alot of the loading and stuttering. Infinite Undiscovery got a blah, but that's really about it. And their iOS games got some fairly decent praise (though I find them overrated but that's one's opinion against the many). Not to mention the Eidos side (which that studio has said they share the work and decision making).

So really, SE hasnt been this pile of garbage you like to make it seem, this gen. So as you say, what's keeping FFV13 from being garbage, we havent seen much. On the same token, what really has been shown or said about it to make it seem bad? Absolutely nothing. Talk like this is nothing but and it makes it seem like you dont want it to succeed no matter what.

Im gonna laugh though if they connect it directly to FFXIII, like when they are in the crystal state or something, they go to the world of Noctis. I mean Lightning technically plays a big role in the whole grand scheme of things, being the warrior goddess and all. Considering all the uproar FFXIII gets over a single strand of hair being out of place, I could only imagine the over exaggerated claims that would come from that.

I doubt they will link it to FFXIII. They are really vague about FNC taking place in the same universe. Its more like they share the same mythology that was revealed a while back but each hold their own universe.

Actually I believe there was a video that showed how the gods related to each other, and I believe it's the same Gods in Versus. I may be mistaken though. I wouldnt mind if they did and it wouldnt surprise me at all.

Versus and XIII will share the same mythos. If it's not the same, they at the very least share the same names. I know Etro is in Versus for sure.

Same gods in the mythos however are they the same god? Should we assume all ifrits are the same?
Each game has their own interpretation of the mythos

There's a big difference between having lower standards and having a broader appreciation for different games. For the record, I am not a twilight fan. No need to be bitter about me actually liking FFXIII. If it's not your cup of tea, that's fine. No need to try and take my cup of tea away from me just because there's a better flavor out there.

And therefore I am appreciative of FFXIII, XIII-2, and probably also XIII-3 if it is made, which leads me only to believe that SE will do a good job with Versus as well and it will be an enjoyable experience even if it isn't the best thing since sliced bread.

If SE says that they share the same mythos, then they share the same mythos. I don't really see why you would be questioning it

Who says i am?

It was an example. Instead of making your opinion count it gets belittled. Not that i dont agree. But your not helping your point mentioning xiii.

I did not say you were a twilight fan. However ff versus is the awesome vampire vel and ff13 is the twilight.

The not-a-twilight-fan comment was just proof that I don't have low standards, since you earlier said that I do :P

And it makes sense to mention XIII seeing as this is Versus XIII. Like PhoenyxAngel said, Versus has the same mythos. Naturally then it will share some other minor elements with XIII, too.

No. Missing the point. This is how you came across:

I enjoyed ff13 and 13-2 so take it frkm me and based in my opinion on those games that versus is going to be awesome.

And there you are, good sir! :)

you make no srnse. regardless ff13 and 13-2 were a step below from the rest of the other ff games.so its morelike saying i have lower standards and that supports reasoning on how this game will be great.

it doesnt make sense because this isnt ff13. its ff versus 13. plus they added a new traemark slot for it which led to rumors for the game being renamed.

And they denied the name change. It's staying as FFVersusXIII. Just saying. The name doesn't seem likely to change.

As for the first part of your post, that's really a matter of your opinion and not necessarily the opinion of everyone else. I for one didn't care for XIII. But some on the forums do like it. So Luke has the right to say that VersusXIII will be good because it'll be following in the footsteps of XIII. If that's what he believes then he's not necessarily wrong. It's a matter of opinion.

when did they deny it?

considering fabula nova crystallis isnt a project that is lead by one but rather individual projects by several people. that said it s wrong yo believe ff versus is following ff13 tracks. but even worst whether one person enjoyed it or not its still the most controversial game in ff history. so knowing that makes it even more difficult to say based on their enjoyment of 13 and 13-2 that he knows versus will be great.

if he said based on his enjoyment of previous games he will enjoy this one. then yes. a bit less conttroversial and provoking

From the Versus timeline:

August 2011
Square Enix files a new trademark application for Final Fantasy Versus XIII, indicating that the company still intends to move forward with the game under its current name (rather than dropping the XIII, as many had speculated).

It's the most controversial game in FF history? Again, that's opinion. You can't really say that as a fact. Because I've always thought X-2 was the most controversial. :hmmm:

as a series, ff13 beats ff10 as ff10 was a great game. ff13? yeah...still....versus and 13 are completely different.

the person wasn't saying "based on my previous experience on ff13, i will enjoy ff versus"

it was "my prediction on ff versus being great and to support that is my experience with ff13 and ff13-2".

So because you think FFXIII and XIII-2 werent stellar, it means their opinion of those games cant be great and cant lead them to think Versus XIII will be great? That's absolutely horrid logic, especially when it's the person's opinion.

Thats not what he's saying. If that was what he was saying then it wouldve been more acceptable.

However he claims he "knows" (fact) that ff versus will be great. And to support said prediction is that he enjoyed ff13 and its sequel. (Opinion). Knowing full well its waay too controversial.

It isnt a matter of it being more or less acceptable. It's what they feel and think the game will be like. People say they know something is going to be great based on past experience of the series. It's not necessarily claiming something as fact but making a judgment based on past experiences. But like I said, why does it matter if someone thinks they are going to enjoy game. Are you that hell bent against FFXIII and SE that you're being this irrational?

It's also only controversial because gamers have become so damn whiny about everything.
