[28/03] Square Enix: We’re happy the PS4 has been officially announced

Over a month has passed since Sony brought the PlayStation 4 into the world and with it the promise of a Final Fantasy title for the next generation.


Dengeki PlayStation caught up with several Japanese developers – including Square Enix – to poll them on a set of questions which included their thoughts on the all-new console’s reveal.


“We’re happy that the PS4 was announced and that it is now possible to develop games for it,” according to a response from Square Enix. “We’re proceeding with development preparations on a Final Fantasy series title for the PS4, so please anticipate an announcement at E3.”


While such insight presents us with nothing new for now, it will be interesting to see if SE does indeed get some sort of jump start into the next cycle. It’s arguable that they entered the current generation perhaps too late, and only recently have been keen to play catch-up following several unfortunate missteps.

i remember square enix raging on why psr would come late and now that their happy and want to present a game at ethree only makes it ovious that versus was just too big of a game to handle psthree. and keeping quiet about it was hard considering...so yeah...ff versus on next gen was an obvious move.
 
oh yeah they are happy... As much as I liked XIII and XIII-2

at least with PS2 and PS1 we had 3 DIFFERENT FF games, with many spin offs, here we had XIII, XIII-2....yeah... Versus...lets not talk about, and I guess XIII-3, if they dont suddenly push that to the PS4 at E3...

I mean different as in characters, story, everything... I am disappointing in Square this generation...actually I was dissapointed in almost everything this generation as a whole, but usually I can look to Square for quite a few years for at least half decent RPG's, we didn't get any Dragon Quest on PS3, had one Star Ocean...and 2 Final Fantasy games... Square needs to get shit together, I am not going count Tomb Raider, Hitman, or Sleeping Dog cause they were developed by companies square purchased, and really even if they make XV for the PS4, I don't see promise for many years... we will get something at E3, and wait many years for it.. "look foward to E3"... in about 5 more years... and at that time they will be saying something like "we should be at the end of a PS4 life span, we want PS5 cause we don't know how to use the PS4 anymore"
 
Good to see they're so optimistic...

...you know, despite some grand losses they've made. Losses significant enough to upset investors that Wada had to go. Seeing the situation with the Eidos games, lofty and unrealistic sales expectations, and how much they have been selling compared to their vastly bloated budgets, one thing comes to mind: mismanagement. Mismanagement just as rife in the SE Japan front, given what had happened with FFXIII and FFXIV.

Perhaps a combination of a smoother next-gen engine in progress (unlike the headache that Crystal Tools was) and a total reorganisation of management at the top echelons of SE now can keep me assured for the time being.
 
Wont this be like the ps3 and FF12 coming out on ps2? although it will be ps4 and FF-formerly-VS coming out on ps3?
 
Shace is right. Actually since FF began there's always been at least 3 mainline titles per console.

FF I - III - NES

FF IV - VI - SNES

FFVII - IX - PS1 (The Golden Age for me)

FF X - XII - PS2

And I think we all know how this gen went... For now I'll keep a look out on what happens at E3. If it isn't the reincarnation of Versus re-branded FINAL FANTASY XV then all hope is lost..
 
Well here's your three FF titles for the current gen:

FFXIII
FFXIII-2
FFXIII-3 LR

Enjoy guys. Will LR have more sales than FFXIII-2 or less? We will see.
PS4 pff give me a break. For me personally SE failed big time in this gen. Why should I continue on another gen. Thats like back to the future lmao..


Versus on PS3 I will buy it on PS4 dont think so.


SE should have done this:

Release FFXIII
Release Type0 and Localize it for the West but also let it support CrossBuy and CrossPlay
Skip FFXIII-2
Release Versus
Instead of FFXIII-3 LR make a KH3
Release HD remasters of FFX,FFX-2
Release HD remasters of KH etc.

BAM! Remaster FFXII.

And in all tht time they could have perfected FFXIV online and make it possible to import/shift to PS4.

Now wouldnt tht be the shit.
 
They will most likely annouce XIV for the ps4 and whoopsies, we've had a boner for Lightning so long and now that its FINALLY gone limp, we might consider releasing Versus as a main title for the ps4 too...but since we originally ported it for the ps3 it's only going to take us 10 more years to port it again for the ps4.

Wah wah wah.

i wonder if KH3 will be shafted for the ps4 like it was for the ps3. :hmmm:
 
No no one knows the designs of the actual ps4. I also hope it wont look ridiculous lol.
KH3 isnt even being developed so yeah probably PS4.. Totally useless though shell shaded should be on ps3 then.
 
Won't be going anywhere near this unless it has some half decent games I actually want to play.

It feels like I only just bought the PS3. :hmmm:

The main reason I bought the PS3 was for the blu-ray player and also once we knew there were several games we wanted to make it worth it. So we waited a good while. XD

I'm quite happy with the PS2 and PS3 at the moment, so Steve and I will see if the PS4 is worth looking into. :hmmm:
