Anyway, firstly, that blue-ray thing is currently...not an argument. I decided the other day to find out how much a blue-ray player was, and it came up at £200 (as the cheapest). That's about $400. So the PS3 is not the cheapest blue-ray player anymore (though it may have caused the prices to drop on them).
I didn't know Blu-ray players had gone down in price, but you're right. I just looked at them on Best Buy and Circuit City's websites and they run $400 to $600.
Of course now people will just be saying "so I can get a Blu-ray player by itself...or I can get one that plays games too? I'm gonna go with the one that plays games."
Thank you for perfectly illustrating the point I made a few posts back about how some people just don't care about Blu-ray. Blu-ray discs are generally twice as expensive as normal DVDs, sometimes three times as expensive...and what's high-definition get you? Wow, a brighter clearer picture. It's not like the picture on normal DVDs (or TVs) is all fuzzy and grainy like old silent films, it looks perfectly fine. Some people just aren't graphics whores. The hi-def disc thing is worth mentioning I suppose, but to be honest, everyone's still using dvds as far as I can tell, and even though I have a HD TV (was £300/$600), I only have one blue-ray disc, and I got that for signing up to the playstation network on the release date (woot).
I don't like console wars simply because they produce tons of obnoxious fanboys, and now GameTrailers.com has taken to making videos comparing the PS3 and 360 graphics of every damn game that comes out. So now that just fuels the fanboys even more cuz they're like "ZOMG THE PS3 IS SLIGHTLY BRIGHTER OLOLOL" and then "TEH 360 CAN HAS SLIGHTLY BETTER TEXTURES!" and then everybody just joins hands to trash the poor Wii for having Gamecube graphics.Personally, I don't like the idea of a war. I like competition between the companies, as it makes some great consoles and games appear that wouldn't have if just sony existed (I mean...no wii? It's insanity!). But I still gotta back the playstation, partially because its getting the lovely FF13 (which better be good or I'll sue SE or something...), and a few other titles I'm looking forward to. Though unless I hear of something great, I probably won't be buying any rpgs for any of the three consoles in the near future, and will continue to get my ps2 ones.
But you're absolutely right about the competition. If Sony (or Xbox or Nintendo) was the only console out there, they wouldn't feel the need to improve and they'd just halfass everything. And the fact that RPGs are STILL coming out for the PS2 is a testament to its greatness and shows that it's probably the best RPG console evar.
Taking the high-spec version off the market just makes no sense to me. I dunno what Sony is thinking...they're either tripping balls and just don't care, or they have something epic planned and they're just trying to fool us so we'll be surprised.Anyway, back to the topic at hand... I'm not that keen on most of those RPGs, and sales figures don't really bother me. I don't like the revised PS3, for the reason of its much lesser capabilities (and taking the higher-spec version off the market).
So they did fix it then? Good, it's about timeOh, another thing, I haven't had any problems with backwards compatability. Only the silly Phantasy Star Universe, of which Phantasy Star and me have never been on good terms regarding memory data (thing got corrupted...much like how my GC PSO data got corrupted...damn Phantasy Star....)
