Since Busta has left there isn't an admin to replace him. I'm talking about an admin who is down to earth person who will talk to you as friend. An admin who is willing to talk to you face to face. A some-what active admin that participates in this community. Someone that posts often and communicate in Shoutbox frequently. Have any suggestions?

I agree with you, the admins DO do a lot of work but it's kinda hard without an admin like you described. Busta, Angelus and Judge Rulia were all good ones. I think if anyone did get bumped up to the admin position it would be one of our current Gmods...and IMO out of the 5 we have, the position would be best suited to Lady Aerith or Angel Valentine...

Nothing we can do, is there? lol. I mean, it's not like the Forums are in need of an Admin.

We seem to have 2 who are decent enough, IMO. >_<;;

I am not sure if anyone is up to the position of taking on that role.

Yeah, it would be nice to have someone like Busta as an admin too. And you do have a point, Hayate. It's not like we need more admins...but I think what Cerridwen was implying is that having a friendly admin who will be available more often is the main point to having a more friendlier atmosphere from the overall staff...not just Moderators or Gmods, but Admins as well. I'm not saying that the Admins are a bunch of grumpy people either. xD

Actually, I don't know about LeeD and Ken. I haven't really seen much of their attitude, so it's kinda hard to tell :P...but see the point? Someone who can be online more often will help, as they can do some more work if necessary, such as name changes, etc.

It's not that we need an admin to fix things and to be an admin. We need an admin that communicates with members.

I agree. We need an admin who will actually do things about the issues we have, like fixing the avy problem (it hasnt affected me but I know it's been going on for a good while) or that issue with the friend list where you can't ever see beyond the first page (which has also been going on for a very long time).

Plus it would be nice to have a mod who frequently posts around and talks in the SB, you know, like a regular member. Busta did alot of that which was great, people got to know him really well, and this isn't any sort of slam against LeeD or Ken, but it'd be nice to actually see them around and such so we could get to know them.

Actually LeeD does come on and chats i the SB with us. sure he may not be on as much as Busta was but he still comes on to talk, and about the mods needing to talk more. I think they do enough. most of the top posters are mods both in the forum and in the SB.
IMO we don't really need another admin. If you need one of the to do something and they aren't on just do what you would do with anyone else. PM or Email one.

1. We're talking about admins, not mods. Mods don't have the power to fix stuff that SHOULD have been fixed a long time ago, like the avy problem or friend list problem.

2. Just because a mod is top poster doesn't mean they're doing their job as a moderator, I believe everyone knows who I'm referring to as well.

3. LeeD and Ken are barely on at all, LeeD was on the SB earlier today when AG was on and he barely said anything. It would be nice to have an admin who posted around the forums at least a few times a week and talked in the SB...you know, an active admin. One that members will see frequently and think "hey, he's down to earth enough to talk with us." Not to mention that if we had an admin doing that, chances are they'd pay attention to problems that surfaced.

You think people haven't tried PMing admins? Belazor can't even do anything because he doesn't even have all the powers his position is supposed to have. We need an active admin who is able to fix problems when they arise.

No, this isn't about moderators at all. This is about having an active admin, an admin who was like Bustma, Angelus, and Judge Rulia. Basically a admin who comes on almost every single day and talks to all the members. A admin who talks to member very frequently who shows a friendly attitude.

I'm not saying LeeD isn't. Actually, it would be nice to know more about LeeD and Ken. I do understand if they choose to hide any personal information.

first you said mod
Second your asking for someone to dedicate their life to this place like busta. Busta left because what he did here and how often he handled things here caused problem for him, just like anyone else that is in an admin position.

My bad then, it was a typo. This thread is about admins.

Second, we don't want someone to dedicate their life to this forum, asking that of someone is ridiculous. We're asking for someone to actually do their job.

The staff here is large enough, I would say just promote one of them, but to be honest, a few of them I wouldn't be comfortable seeing as admins. I haven't been here long but just through first impressions its blech. Why make rules if you can't even enforce them all?

I never really understood the point of just having Moderators either. If all the Mods became Global Mods, then they have quicker access to other forums if something were to happen, right?

DB and presumably LeeD as well have both attempted to resolve the avatar issue, to no avail. The issue probably will be resolved eventually - we just don't know when the fault will actually be spotted.

FYI, LeeD is on a reasonable amount, working behind the scenes. He just uses invisible mode. I'm sure most of us here can relate to the fact that jobs and social lives conflict with being present on the internet, so... cut some slack.

Also, what is it you want out of an active face-admin? Site information? Updates? If there's something to actually tell you all, it'll be posted in the corresponding section. Nothing's being hidden, and no-one's being neglected when it comes to sharing information. Just ask the rest of the staff if you have an issue... there's very few things an admin can really take care of that the remaining staff cannot. Busta had no real competency within the ACP (some of the staff can attest to that :P), and just posted a fair amount whilst also talking in the SB. A lot of staff do that already, so really I see no need in forcing a current admin to be more active, or recruiting/promoting someone as a new face of FFF.

Although I understand it may seem comforting to know there's one around at most times, you just have to settle with what you have.

Actually, Belazor spotted the fault all the way back in August:

Now I don't have access to the file causing the error atm, but it would seem as if the /avatars/ directory is having its CHMOD settings randomly changed. Why this happens, I have no idea.
But that error is almost definetely a derivative of avatars being stored in the file system and vBulletin not having write permissions to the /avatars/ folder.

The only possible fix at this point in time would be to move avatar storage to the Database, however this creates additional load on the server due to lack of caching abilities, as well as the fact that DB obviously desires the avatars stored in the file system.

Erm, also...

Except...neither LeeD or DB have posted in the avatar thread letting us know they're trying to fix it. See, that's what we're getting at. You said LeeD goes around in invisible mode alot, so we can't see any activity. I'll take your word for it if you say LeeD is around, but when the members don't actually see an admin going around or get updates from him then it looks like the admin isn't paying any attention. Like you said, seeing an admin around every once in a while is comforting.

The matter was repeatedly brought up in LeeD's introduction thread. He confirmed he was looking into it.

Comforting, but far from necessary. If there's a technical issue, it's always sorted as soon as possible. LeeD and Belazor typically visit this place a couple of times a day to check the place out, so nothing major hangs around for long. That aside, the regular staff deal with most -if not all- of the remaining forum (non-technical) issues. What's more comforting than that?

I don't see what's so important about wanting a blue name around more than they are.

We all know, who is going to become an admin.;)

The real question we should be asking is:

When do I become an admin?

Ohhh, I haven't been regularly keeping up on LeeD's thread, just the avy thread. My bad then.

I'd heard that Belazor doesn't even have all the powers that a tech admin is supposed to have though...so I'm not sure how much he can actually do.

*EDIT*

Found the post where he says it: http://www.finalfantasyforums.net/f...s/the-review-room-13649-page2.html#post216306

No one's really talking about tech issues though here in this thread. The fact that admins come on to make sure there are no major melt downs on the way the forum itself is functioning doesn't mean anything in this thread.

I use Belazor and the avatar issue, with the name change thread as examples. DB himself said something along the lines of, "there are enough admin here who can change names and get things taken care of."

Which is obviously complete bullshit since no one's name has been changed recently. No one in this thread has asked for someone to 'devote their life' to FFF. Which again, I'm going to be honest and say that is the most melodramatic statement I've ever heard. Changing a couple of fucking names doesn't count as being an indentured servant.

Plus no matter how busy someone is, it's completely ridiculous and 100% unbelievable that 4 admins have absolutely no time to do any of this. They must really be the busiest people in the world.
