I need help!

I've never had to pick someone up from an airport before and I have never been on a plane and apparently my family's flight arrives at 7:30am tomorrow but I have no idea how long it will actually take for them to get through customs and such.

Does anyone have a rough idea on how long it takes from arriving at the airport to actually leaving?

Half an hour, an hour?

I don't want to rock up at 7:30am on the dot if they won't actually get out for another good hour or so. I am not sitting around that long.

I have tried emailing them to see what they think I should do but they aren't getting back to me. :hmmm:

Well depending on departure, and the time of arrival on the screen I would say getting there 45 minutes prior to landing is a safe bet.

There are many variables though. You have to think about the density of the airport. How many people are there and how many people are arriving via other planes at the same time. Also depends on the size and the staffing of the air port. Most air ports I go to are international airports so they are pretty big. The customs alone take around 35 minutes to get through on a good day, and if they are inspecting every single person's carry on then it will take 2 hours at max.

So, sorry for the discouraging news. You just need to prepare yourself to wait a little bit, because air ports are one of those things that take way too much time due to security. I mean that especially in the States.

Yay. :hmmm:

Steve has to be at work at lunch time too. They had better give us enough time to get back home so he can get there on time. <_<

The flight status says they are currently on time, so say they do get there at 7:30am and we get there at around 8ish. Hopefully they should be out by then or only take a little while longer to get through customs.

We have to leave the airport at 10am at the latest for Steve to be home on time. I really doubt it will take 2.5 hours but I will be annoyed if it does. <_<

I hate escorting other people around like this. <_<

Theyre coming back from holiday? I reckon ig theyre due to get in around 7.30 and assuming that everything is on time etc youl probably see them around 8am i would think. On return flights you dont always go through customs :hmmm: At least i never have on flights back home. Which sounds really weird but its how it is.
Even with customs and all that you wont have to wait around long. I would bet on you seeing them around 8am, maybe earlier :D

Yeah they just left Aberdeen on Friday and are now finally on a plane back here after stopping at Hong Kong.

Everything and everyone goes through customs here so hopefully they haven't brought too much shit back with them to go through.

I just finished cleaning the house for them and it's midnight and I have to be up at 5:30 to get there by 7:30-8am. >.<

Thanks for that too Lew. I really hope you're right!

It depends on what class they're flying, how close they are sitting to the doors etc etc.
I went to the Gold Coast for a holiday a few years ago and it took about 45 minutes to get out of Customs. The most important thing to do is to check that the flight hasn't been delayed before you leave. You can probably check on the airport's website, or if not there, then the airline's.

@George Costanza yeah I was checking the Flight Status all night and this morning just to make sure they were on time.

They ended up landing 15 minutes early at 7:15am but we got there about 8am and they were just about to go through customs.

Luckily it only took about half an hour for them to get through.

Though the annoying thing was that we were waiting at the pick up section but they were waiting somewhere else and the airport is confusing and we went around in circles three times just to find where they were!

But otherwise everything went all good.

Thanks everyone!

Getting out of the bloody plane is the longest bit of the whole thing. You probably stand around for like 15 minutes in there. You do need to go through customs (well I did in adelaide airport) but for me that only took about 20 minutes so yeah I suppose if they landed at 7:30 you only need to be there at about 8.

I HATE airports :hmph:
