Bringing a new style of storytelling to Xbox 360, Alan Wake is a psychological action thriller from Remedy, the renowned original developers of the successful Max Payne series. In this dynamic new title exclusively for Xbox 360, players assume the role of Alan Wake, a best-selling suspense author suffering from writer's block, who escapes to a small town only to experience the mysterious disappearance of his wife.
Set in the deceptively idyllic town of Bright Falls, Washington, Alan Wake immerses players in an intense and expansive cinematic world that enables players to explore the hyper-realistic and interactive environments. Alan Wake is mission-based with a deeply engaging and suspenseful storyline unveiling new twists and profound character revelations at every turn. Unravel the riveting plot through multilayered character interactions, unique problem-solving, and intense combat against terrifying enemies. In this nightmarish world, where fantasy and reality collide, Alan Wake must use a variety of weapons to survive, including his most powerful ally against the darkness - light itself.
  • Intense psychological thriller: Alan Wake delivers a deeply psychological and finely crafted plot that raises the bar for storytelling in video games. The riveting story of Alan Wake is propelled by a movie-like atmosphere, compelling situations, memorable characters, and real-time pacing. Remedy has a record of creating and developing games with unique cinematic presentation and exceptionally high production values.
  • Light as a combat element: As Wake journeys deeper into the mystery of Bright Falls, the shadows close in around him. When darkness descends, light becomes his only ally as he fights his way to daybreak. This poses a severe problem for Alan Wake since his enemies seemingly gain strength from the shadows, and before long, light itself becomes his greatest ally. Players must skillfully combine their use of light with more conventional weapons to stand a chance.
  • Realistic, interactive environment: Set in the town of Bright Falls, the hyper-detailed environments of the Pacific Northwest play an important role, as even the change in daylight and weather will profoundly affect the characters and enemies in Alan Wake. The game's advanced rendering engine provides amazingly realistic environments that bring this world to detailed life—from the lush forest of evergreen trees to the quaint small-town buildings and streets. The world of Alan Wake is alive and real.
  • Episodic narrative: The mission-based structure of Alan Wake creates an episodic narrative similar to a deeply structured dramatic television series, such as Twin Peaks and X-Files. As the episodes progress, gameplay evolves to introduce new elements and characters, escalating the level of threat and action in the game.

REVIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cant believe no one has bothered to go and experince this amazing game. I picked up the special limited edition of the game and Im in <3 with it. Remedy have created a cinematic masterpiece with Wake and I hope some people go out there and give it a try!

I bought this today, just spent about an hour playing it...

Wow. I am actually really impressed with this! Not many games these days that claim to be horror or thriller or whatever actually scare me, but this had me on the edge. Its so basic, but surprisingly fun and addictive. FIRE THE FLASHLIGHT OF POWER!
There is something about these Taken that remind me of Splicers, as well...I was getting a whiff of BioShock when one randomly started talking about cholesterol levels...as he picked up the shack I was in using a freakin' crane.

Nice graphics, as well. Convincingly misty forest...reminds me of Silent Hill 2...*shudders*

Everything has been good thus far...well, asides Alice. URGH. Most horrendously ugly female protagonist ever? Yes, I think so. Her lip synching is awfully off with her voice, as well. She looks kinda like a fish out of water. Although she did make me laugh at one point:

"I have a surprise for you, Alan!"
*walks into the bedroom to find her half-naked on the bed*
"I'm not the surprise, its in the study."

...thank GOD. Seriously >.>

The manuscript segments are nice, as well. Although I've already missed one...should have bought the guide as well. I don't want to miss them - the narration is top-notch.

Lol, glad someone agress bout Alice! I thought my copy was off with the lip sync, but Im thankful its not just mine! THANK YOU also about being on the edge of your seat, my boyfriend thinks its funny how I keep jumping when I play it, cant help it! Bloody games eerie and I love it!

No, she really is that bad, its a universal thing. XD

Well, it IS eerie! You get random jumps in the music for no apparent reason - a dirty trick, since that is ALWAYS associated with "You're about to be attacked, you might want to prepare yourself", as well as muttering in the background...followed by an "Oh, by the way, he's still out there stalking me" comment from Alan. There tends to be more than one enemy at a time, as well, and once they've had their darkness removed they become harder to see, ironically...they come at random, as well. I was expecting some on the way back to activating the switch to get the log to move into position, aaand...nothing. Their jumping out of the bushes has got me scanning every bush now, as well. XD

Its a very confusing and surreal game...I don't have a clue WTF is going on. One minute, a nice vacation with the Thing From The Crater, the next a misty forest filled with Taken...

Im glad I got the guide cause the amount of manuscript pages and coffee thermoses Id miss would be mega silly XD Ive been told to play it at night with the lights off and my headphones on lol! No way jose, Im not having a heart attack XD Remedy have done well in creating the perfect atmopshere game, just wish more took place in the daytime as Bright Falls during the day looks an awesome place!

I've been playing it in the dark. I really shouldn't. XD

Its worse when you're not armed...that small section where you had to
rely on the kidnapper to shoot whilst you drove them off with flares
really had my heart pumping @_@

I borrowed it last night. Haven't gotten too far yet - only on chapter three at the minute but it's easily the best game I've played in a long time. I can see a lot of influence from Stephen King, right down to Alan Wake's look. The other characters so far have been a bit crap, but they've all been bit-part so it hasn't affected the game too much.

It reminds me quite a bit of Resident Evil 4, what with the small cabins dotted about and the way the Taken act.

Wow, youve gottne further then me. Im still episode 2! I agree that the other characters arent amazing, Alan is great as a lead character. Alan Wake the novel has apprantly been released, so great to see its getting some hype.

Its come out as a novel? I am so buying that. I've been thinking that this game would be brilliant as a novel, and evidently someone agrees with me. It IS a very good game - especially with the foreshadowing from the manuscript pages, which makes it stand out from other horrors, in my opinion - but I'd like to read it...

I'm on Chapter 4 now...only been playing this in half-hour increments at most, in the evening...I can't make much sense of it, which is wonderful. Its gotten a lot more tense, now that this "dark presence" has
started throwing SCENERY at me. Seriously, I've had TREES collapse before me, and an entire railway car was thrown at me recently...scared the ever-loving fuck out of me...

Its on Amazon for £7.99. Im very tempted to get it as its a good and different storyline. Every book I read now I have Alan Wakes voice as a narration!! His voice wont leave lol XD

I just recently completed this. Overall, I found it good, but has some annoyances. The lip-synch is horrible at times. The driving controls aren't that great, the run-dodge is clunky at times. The mini-map is terrible at times, as I got lost on occasion and went over cliffs or crashed into cliff faces when it pointed in that direction.
I find it's major strengths are its story, voice acting, and the overall atmosphere. It is very creepy, along with sound-effects and night time visuals. There are many WOW moments.
Anyway, Alan Wake sure drinks hell of alot of coffee, with all the thermos he picks up. It's surprising that he can hold the flashlight steady and shoot straight.

Tried this game out yesterday night. Generally I dont like it much. Its a horror story though It is not even that scary. Also how in the world does he hold the shotgun with one hand. I mean its better used with 2 hands :gasp: About how long is it?
