Is there any reason to level up more than 4 players? The guide recommends to get everyone to at least lvl 40. Right now I have Vaan, Ashe, Penelo and Basch at 15/16, Balthier and Fran are at 11/12, so they are not far behind.

What do you guys recommend? Should I get everyone up to a certain point before stopping?

I think its a good idea to get your whole party leveled up to a certain level, because there are going to be times you're going to have to switch out a character because they're KO'd, status effects, etc. like in a boss battle or such. And of course if you're main characters are level 45 and the other guys are still level 14, they're not going to be much help, lol.

So I'd say that the strategy guide's recommendation is a smart one, get 'em all to about 40 and then stick just level up your main characters.

Thanks Garnet! Ya I wasnt going to leave them at 11 or 12 lol. But I wasnt planning on leveling each character to 99 or close. I know sometimes the strategy guide is "wrong" or not what most people recommend.

No problem. ^_^ And yeah, I think I'd shoot myself if I tried to level all of the characters up to lvl 99!! hehe

Leveling up should be quicker if done 1 by 1 (or 2 by 2) since EXP wont be divided amongst the party members but to the single character. Then again... in the end the same amount of time wasted would probably be the same...

So basically, if I have 3 guys at 10, and 3 and 9, the EXP wont be divided umong the 6. But if say, 3 guys are at 20, and 3 at 10, they will divide the EXP to all the players?

no he means that if your active party is 2 people as opposed to 3, the experience from fallen enemies will only go to those 2 people and therefore they will be rewarded with more experience. Any inactive party member (members in reserve) will never receive experience.

Eh? Can you rephrase that I was a little confused, lol.

What im basically saying is for example, if you have 3 fighters on the field and the enemy you killed gave off 2000exp points, killing that same enemy with just one character on the field should give him 6000exp points (reserved party members dont get EXP). I dont know if guest characters get EXP but I do know they dont level up (everytime i've had a guest character in my party they were always at the same level they were on when they joined... but im not entirely sure, lol).

EDIT: Nevermind Myjestik beat me to the explanation... <.<

Thank you for rephrasing that. I did not think reserve members got EXP so was confused a bit.

I will try that out and see how it works.

Oh as for the guests, they count as another member and reduce the experience further. I noticed that early on when Larsa was in my party. In other words, don't grind when you have guests!

Also, you gain a standing in the Sky Pirates Den for having an average level of 50.I have 3 characters(Vaan,Basch and Ashe)at lv.73,but the other 3 are 14 or 15!!!!!:(Don't make that mistake because in bigger boss battles like the stronger hunts, you'll need to occasionally bring in a second string member or two_Of course, mine die as soon as they hit the fight!!Definitely try to keep the secondaries at at least 50.Hope it helps!!!
