The Eidolons in this game are pretty useless? everytime I'm in a very tight situation and i summon one of the Eidolons, it feels like they don't help me at all.

i had the same problem with the summons for FF12, they just don't help you very much at all.

The XIII eidolons are more useful than the XII espers. I like to save my eidolons for when my party is close to wiping (usually because Hope ends up with a minor case of ADD and stops healing), and then I'll use an eidolon. After the eidolon goes away, your group is back at full health. So basically it's a good amount of damage, followed by full group heal. They can also be a lifesaver in the later boss battles where you have doom cast on you after the battle goes on for so long. As long as the eidolon is out, the doom counter is stopped. So you can get a bit more time (especially helpful if the boss is nearly dead)

I do agree that most of the time you are hardly ever going to need the Eidolons in battle. Their pitiful damage capabilities are just like FFXII's Espers (although unlike the Espers, Eidolons can't be killed in battles and you are guaranteed to unleash their strongest attacks in Gestalt form) and during the length of time an Eidolon takes on the battlefield, I'm sure you can inflict much more damage with your regular party.

And yeah, the healing effect after the dismissal is very handy, especially if you're overwhelmed with status ailments and close to death. It's a good trump card there. However, if you're after a quick time for a high battle rating, Eidolons would just prolong the battle.

I use eidolons quite often...........

more so than in XII...........

however the thing tht pissed me off the most was you could only use 1 eidolon and each character had its own eidlon.

I only use Lightining or Fang as my main character.........that means i only use Bahamut or Odin.It would of been at least better if they had their own eidlon just when they became a l'cie instead of when they were about to give up or doing something terrible etc(you know what i mean :wacky:).

I never use Sazh,Snow,Hope or Vanille as my main leading character............therefore I don't use thier eidolons.

well during the game i found them pretty help full mainly for taking out minis in boss battles

but post-game boss battles they are pretty useless they take of like 5% of what your party could do in the time you have the summon out

still there are a few times post-game that using a summon is necessary

I must admit, the Eidolons have to be one of the main parts of the game that I hate. They are pathetically weak and if they hadn't had the ability of fully healing your party members, well then I never would have used them. I wish they were more like the FFX summons and were badass.

I too was disappointed by the usefulness of the Eidolons. Although they have their uses (as mentioned above the healing and stalling doom etc.) they are just not as useful as they are hyped up to be, I mean, there are battles against each one in order to get them!

True, the Eidolons weren't as useful as I thought they's be.sometime even after I summon them , they didnt really do much damage and they only are useful if you had staggered your opponent (for me at least).then there's the fact that a summon costs 3 TP so I was always holding back from summoning them. This might seeem dumb but throughout the whole game I nver ever used Hope's,Sazh's or Vanille's summons because they were only my party leader for a few times cus I suck badly at using them.I wish SE would let us use the summons of the 2 supporting members and not just the leader's cus it feel like their Eidolons got wasted :/

I thought the eidolons in this game were almost a complete waste. I hardly ever used them except for when I was close to dying and needed their healing abilities early in the game...or when I wanted to initally knock down the adamantoise or guis postgame.

When I did my first summon I could not believe how small an amount of damage it did to my enemies...I was like :gonk: After that I stopped using them and I figured it was just easier taking out my enemies on my own...and faster too. How long it took to summon them was irritating too, as the summon cutscenes were only cool the first few times. The summons were pretty much lamesauce in this game

The only Eidolon I really used was Odin. And that was only if my characters were all about to die. The healing and the rezzing came in handy.

Other than that, I did not find their damage to be anything special, which is why I prefer the old way of summoning where the summon would appear, do a super attack, and then disappear.

I never even once summoned Sazh's, Fang's, Hope's, or Vanille's eidolon.

Because X's were the first summons I've ever used (X-2 was the first FF I've ever played), I usually compare any other summons to those Aeons (not intentionally, it just happens). Needless to say, I didn't think any other summons were as good. But then I get to thinking about XIII's summons... what if the Eidolons did have HP and stuck around until said HP hit 0? That would be way too fucken easy. The Eidolons for me were sufficient and slightly convenient. They sat around doing some damage for a short period of time and then healed my party after.

That game was pretty easy for me, so I hardly ever needed them. I have no complaints about them. And they're also very good for when a someone casts doom on the party leader. You get more time by summoning since doom is put on hold.

I liked the Eidolons. I didn't even need them, I was too good I guess.

I must have summoned Bahamut 5 times in my FFXIII experience.

Odin once, and Shiva because I had to I think?

Not much cop with these guys, they are good but not great, Iwould have preferred a Summon from the old days like VII or VIII, the SP gauge is one of the worst ways to control a Summon/Eidolon in all of FF.

Just stick around until you are sent away by the player no need to limit a much hyped part of the game with silly timing devices.

FFXII Espers were crap save Adremalec.
Replace my favourite Summons with the B-team S-E!? I'll show you:rage:

I thought the cutscenes of summoning the Eidolon was pretty neat, but I don't use them often either, unless I really need the healing for my team.

The cutscenes were awesome. I almost wanted to run up to my TV and have sex with it. I was already creaming my pants.

Eidolon's were pretty pointless really, I can only see their inclusion to give the game some sort of "traditional" feel to it. In fact, the only thing they were useful for really was to revive one of the party if they'd fallen, and once you get Raise, that's pointless as well.

:holyshit:Really?

Catnip.....good lord almighty lol!

Bahamut was and is my preeminent and perenial favourite Summon/Aeon/Eidolon
but with the capped TP limit it made a chore and a hassle, old style summons are much better.

Perfected in FFX tempered with in FFXII further made redundant in FFXIII, the hell is S-E doing to our summoned creatures:rage:

Im not a FFXIII optimist, but I can say that summons aren't too too useful in any FF. Hell, the only reason you had them in VI and VIII were to gain abilities from them. FFX was the only one where I made use of them, and even still it's only when I desperately needed them (as should be the case, given what they are lol).

see i dont really care so much about the lack of damage, when you bring one out its a real lifesaver because 1: they heal you while your fighting and 2: they heal everyone when you dismiss... their damage is nice aswell even if its sub parr to your partys regular damage.

my problem was already mentioned: you can only use your main characters eidoloon

Well if there is one thing I will say about the summons in FFXIII is that I used them more than I did in XII, which I never used besides the first time. Even though I said that I still don't use them in XIII very often. The only times I have used them is when there were too many enemies to handle so I just used a summon so I could wipe some, if not all, of the enemies out so I could have an easier time. Even still situation like that have been rare for me thus far so yes I haven't really used them much. Not to mention summoning them is pretty expensive.
