Am i the only one who thinks that ???

They did have their uses, but everyone is mainly pissed off about them because their damage sucks and can be matched by your own characters.

It's difficult for me to appreciate the advantage that aeons provide in this game because the amount of patience required to actually use the battle system and pay attention makes me want to put a bullet in my head.

Are Eidolons Worthless?

I must admit, I very INFREQUENTLY used my Eidolons during the game. I mean, I thought they were shiny in their introductions and cutscenes and all that. But I didn't think they were great at all, in comparison to other summons.

I thought the Shiva Sisters were really cool (looking) and Odin came out hard, but never really hit for ish. Hecatoncheir was pretty neat and got some good licks in, but I was, for the most part, disappointed.

Anyone else just as disappointed or is there something I'm not doing? I'd like to think that these summons are rather awesome, but I felt that, instead of wasting TP, I could just keep Fang and let her slash away at enemies.

Your thoughts?

I disagree.
They brought back any fallen allys, and increased their HP to full.
When they entered their second mode,(Can't remember the name right now) the enemy would briefly not attack.
It was also a very quick way to stagger them.

You do make a point! I did like that about them, but after you've used up your TP, it's all you from then on... :-( But I did use Odin to stagger some tough enemies, so I see what you mean because that did help.

I guess I was hoping for the Eidolons to do the work for me. But I learned rather quickly that it was a team effort, not a "let the summon do all the work" kind of gameplay.

Hmm.. if you put it that way, summons are limited to their use in any FF really. FFX is the only exception, and that's only because the game is based thoroughly on the concept.

I agree I didn't use them as much as I thought I would have done, but they were always there if you were in a pinch.
Their best quality is the full heal you get, the damage they do is just a bonus really and you get a really kick ass show in between. What more could you want?

I think if you have a decently powered party and haven't been rushing too much then you don't use them too much. On the other hand if you've been rushing through the game and have a somewhat weak party they can really help you out of those tricky situations.

I like the Eidlolons because they can get you out of tricky situations IE 2 party members are dead and just the leader remains or you die in the eidolon phase. Also Bahumut is a beast if you can stagger your opponent during the eidolon stage. He did at least 500000 damage at least on
orphan
on top of fangs Highwind ability makes for quick battles. Though I can't say I have used Vanille, Hope or Sazh summon just yet, but why should I when I got Fang.

To me the Eidolons are worthless whats the point in calling them out if your still going to take damage, If your trying to take someone really strong down you still have to worry about healing your main character or its game over

Aint there a thread like this already?

It was a silly thing S-E did limiting the Aeons to a reward status for gaining TP after a fast battle..........ridiculous lol they should have been left alone and be able to be summoned when the player wants. S-E had better get there minds outof the cloud that makes them think reducing player interaction is fucking GOOD thing!!

Yes very frustrating.

More to the point Bahamut dont have freakin Purple on him!!!!:rage:

I wouldn't know because I joined yesterday o_O...oops! But I'm enjoying the fresh conversation!

But yeah, the TP thing really sucks. I just found that my characters were strong enough to hold their own. The Eidolons were...pretty (and in some cases useful), but I'm only saying that because my party was well leveled. I guess that makes them useful for those who aren't as built up for battle.

Honestly, I just used them so that I could see the pretty cutscenes (like the Shiva sisters and Odin).

Anywho, to any new FFXIII players out there, DON'T rush through the game and think that these summons will save you when you're in a pinch. They may help with staggering and reviving HP, but don't think that they will make up for your lack of leveling up. You could do that in FFX (to the extent of how leveled up Yuna was), but in this game, not at all...

Guess you can't have everything. I think FFX spoiled me...

The summons in this game are actually quiet useful. One you get the stagger up use a summon and you can do some serious damage.

They for me are only helpful if both my teammates have died, or one of my healers (and I have no pheonix down or another healer to raise them). Because when you've summoned them to do whatever, everyone comes back. Sometimes they've helped me win (a few times) but mostly useless yes. I would've liked summoning to account for something. For the amount of effort it took to 'tame' them, they should've been more useful than just for looks or whatever they were good for (for each individual).

battle purposes they were next to useless, though a final attack is pretty cool to watch, healing purposes for a tight spot? and their abilities go through the roof. Espers in FFXII, didn't use them once, well i did to test them out, and i regreted it a moment later. prefered the FFX version

I never found them to be useful...well actually I did use Odin in the battle against Cid, and he did help me, but that was the only time i ever touched one.

I NEVER touched summons in XII, in fact I can't even remember summons in 12 at all haha.

I found them kind of useful for dealing damage to staggered opponents near the beginning when I first got them. Later on, they are quite useful for the fact that your party is invincible when you use them, but damage wise they become kind of pointless.

For the 3TP they cost, they are only useful

1. When you're 1HP away from death
2. To stall
3. If someone is staggered and you're beating them down
4. If you want to cheap a boss to death. Vanille's vibrat......errr I mean eidolon, was a nice cheap way of killing certain enemies, especially when poisoned.
