2 hours of fighting.. 109997 HP left. ARGH. This is my last resort.

How to beat this boss, minimal effort? My levels are 42/43/44 (Y/R/P) and I have 2 Dark Knights and an Alchemist. Pretty much my strategy is Darkness, Darkness, Stash Mega Potion. Sometimes chuck a Star, Light or Lunar Curtain if I feel I need it. Darkness damage is about 1000 at the beginning, but for some reason it slowly dwindles to about 200. My equipment are:

Yuna (Dark Knight) - Ragnarok, [HP +100%] (HP = 5018)
Rikku (Alchemist) - [HP +100%] (HP = 2971), [something else]
Paine (Dark Knight) - Ragnarok, [HP +60%] (HP = 4089)

Should I just do Via Infinito then own him?

The problem with Darkness' power decreasing in incraments is that one of Angra Mainyu's attacks reduce stat values (I can't remember which, but obviously has an impact on offensive ones). If you have the means to remedy this, do so after its been afflicted upon you a few times. Each attack with this negative effect reduces the stat(s) by 2 until it caps at 10 total reduction.

Your levels seem ok, but there's no harm in additional training. Might find it beneficial to exchange your Alchemist for a White Mage, perhaps?

The problem with White Mage is that none of my girls are trained in that Dressphere.

Oh, that makes sense, but how to cure the reduction?

I can't for the life of me remember how, but the only two solutions that come to mind are fairly simple: let that character die or simply make sure Zarich is only alive for a brief period before you kill him again. If you can't kill him with 2-3 Darkness attacks, then I'd suggest piling on the levels.

If you can... try casting Haste on your Dark Knights.

Thanks for the help but I killed him. Albeit the cheapest way possible. Go to Cloister 40 in Via Infinito, beat Black Elemental (Charon = Kill), get Cat Nip, go to Bikanel, survive Perdition's Flame with Cat Nipped Gunner Yuna, hit her a few times with Paine and Rikku, Trigger Happy twice = Dead Angry Manu.

In my many times of beating Angra Mainyu, I used the same exact strategy as you with the 2 Dark Knights and an Alchemist. I never had the issue with the damage falling in time though. If Saix is right, I'd say it's probably Perdition's Flame that lowers your stats. But again, I don't think I ever had that issue before, even in failed attempts.

I can't remember what accesories I used, but I think I would use Auto-Protect to cut down on the damage from Perdition's Flame. Keep in mind that Perdition's Flame can only be performed when both arms are alive. One mistake I've made in this battle is be too fast with Darkness. If you see that Mainyu is about to cast a spell, it's probably a Full-Life to one of the arms. Now, if you use Darkness while he's casting and before the Full-Life hits, you WON'T hit the arm he just revived because you never targetted it. So make sure you wait for the cast, THEN use Darkness so you damage that revived arm and you should have it dead before he revives the other arm, rinse and repeat and this will help stop the Perdition Flame from ever being cast. And make sure that the Alchemist is constantly using the Mega-Potion, don't wait for life to get low, just continuously use it and don't do anything else with the Alchemist, unless the situation gets bad, then you have to force her to take other actions of course.

Being in the mid-40's seems like a low level to me. I believe Mainyu is in the 60's for level, so you may be underleveled as well. For the most part, I've always been in the high 60's when doing this battle. I imagine if done right, you could probably pull it off at level 50, but I think any lower than that and you'll have issues beating him.

But as you mentioned, Cat Nip with a Gunner works too. But now you'll have another strategy if you battle with him again.

i would try to use their special dresspheres first. equip all of them with the unerring path garment grid if you're only going to use dark knight and alchemist and that will take down most hp before you even have to fight all 3 together. just have a megalixir or mega phoenix or somethin available

@blakstang98

Actually he can use Perdition's Flame when he's got one arm too, which annoyed me. But I don't know what's causing that damage decreasing thing and how to cure it, I was on the verge of tears when my Dark Knights were doing 200 damage.

@iconamongidols

I tried the Special Dressphere strategy. Instead of Perdition's Flame doing ~500 damage each hit, it did ~1200 damage. Instant KO.
