Auron's ending - did you cry?

*slaps Grand_lethal*

He is THE ff character of all time. Yunalesca shouldn't have killed him and he should have stayed on to FFX-2, but that how things go. at least he made a cameo appearance in Kingdom hearts 2

Um....no he isn't. He's the epitome of a one-dimensional character. He always says the same "this is your story" crap over and over again. There is no development in his character, what we see of him in the beginning is how he remains through the game. He never even displays any emotion, you can't get more one-dimensional than that. He is a tank in the purest form, good for using in combat and nothing else.

I never cried because of a video game but Auron was one of the few characters i enjoyed i would have prefered if someone else disappeared.

Well all characters serve a different purpose in a story, and that was his, he wasn't the main character so why should he be any more complex? Was Zell complex? Baret, Cid ... no ... cause they weren't the main characters ...

Yuna isn't "the main character" of the game, and she's the most bloody developed character. She's human a displaying emotion, she has desires, but also is a kind person who puts other people ahead of her, and has to confront her inner conflict. Then you have Auron ... same monotone Auron ...

Just saying he doesn't need to be developed because he isn't the main character is a really crappy argument. Since Final Fantasy is so renowned for it's "amazing characters", I'd think some development would be in order. But is it? No.

Maybe, but what are you talking about, throughout the game you see Auron's story, what happened to him , how he came to be what he is, also he is Tidus's main motivator, always giving him moral support, doing exactly what Jecht asked of him... bottom line is, he is an amazing character IMO.

when auron was sent it was more like a salute a soldier mentality i had, not sadness. i thought tidus disappearing was much more shocking, and sad.

He kept everyone going till the end and saved my ass in the game a number of times

Um, no he did not. The two biggest motivators in the game were Lulu and Rikku, they gave the most useful advice, insight and motivation. Auron helped motivate people a bit but it wasn't much in comparison to Lulu and Rikku. Please replay the game again and don't make up things about Auron. If you like him because he's a badass, just say so, don't make Auron out to be something he's not.

Zell, Barret and Cid showed emotion though. Not being a main character is no excuse to have the personality and emotional display of a brick.

He doesn't give Tidus "moral support", he just harps on him about "this is your story" a hundred times (and don't tell me he didn't spew that line over and over, because he did) and tells him to decide things for himself. Nothing moral about Tidus' dilemmas and nothing supportive about Auron's methods. He did what Jecht asked because he promised Jecht he would. It's the typical "follow your orders, don't break a promise" routine. If he actually cared about Tidus he did even worse at showing it than Jecht.

How exactly is he so amazing? Yes he's great in battle, yes he's cool, yes he's a badass when it comes to being a good character for a story...no. Emotion is what makes us human and it's what helps us relate to characters in a story, it adds a little depth to them. Without those things Auron is basically reduced to an weapon.

I wasn't happy when Auron left but I didn't get really upset about it because he wasn't my favorite character in the game really. I wish he could have stayed though, that would have been awesome but oh well. I was more upset when Tidus disappeared, I think it was because he had a much more tragic ending lol. :P

Bambi, please stop responding to everyones post please. The last few pages are just full of random responses.

I got upset because he was a great character IMO and I agree, he deserved a FMV.

No, I didn't cry, but it was sad, of course. However, I felt that Tidus' disappearance had a greater impact than Auron. I suppose the fact that Yuna's in love with him made it kinda heart-wrenching for the players to see Tidus go. Tragic romance, almost.

But Auron's part was really good too. xD

I didn't feel sad when Auron left either. He was a very good character, it can't be denied, but I knew he was the type to accept death, and to walk into it with valour. For him to not accept death, he'd have to be totally different.

I guess he wasn't a character I was emotionally attached to. He had no huge ties with anyone else and appeared, to me, to be more of a drifter. He seemed impartial to a lot of things. He cared, yes, but he wasn't the type to get upset. He was the type to accept things as they were and to make the most of what was to be.
