If Auron is right-handed, (i.e. he holds his sword in his right hand, but swings with both), then why all the big show of hiding his left arm in his shirt and then swinging it open to reveal a huge muscular arm that he only half uses. And then what is in that weird beehive/cocoon container at his waist? Did I miss an explanation in-game? Or is it just there to annoy people?
 
His arm is brought out in a display of how muscled his arm is. As for the thing at his belt, I'm pretty sure that's alcohol, but its also ued for his Tornado Bushido Overdrive

Why does it annoy you??? Its an outfit for Lord sake, how is it annoying?

I guess he keeps his arm like that to rest perhaps?? Designers probably thought he'd look cool not using both sleeves.

As for the bottle on his belt, contains his sake.
 
Oh, okay. Yeah, I just looked up a video on Youtube and saw is Overdrive.

It annoys me because, usually, the outfits in Final Fantasy aren't very practical, but neither are they ridiculous. Auron's left arm just doesn't seem to make any sense. Like, i'ts cool and all, but it goes beyond impractical. It's just like, "why?"
 
Maybe it's like a false sense of security thing. Ya see some dude with a big sword and a "crippled" arm ya think,"Oh I got this." Then the next thing ya know ya get punched in the face with the "crippled" arm. Would certainly give somethin for Auron to talk trash about.

Aurons sheathed left arm presents numerous symbolic references.

In his earlier days he served as Grand Summoner Braska's guardian. During their pilgramige his arm was free and sleeveless. This could be a reference to his battle experience at the time.

When the pilgramage reaches its conclusion and Auron
dies
, he still maintains a promise to Braska to make sure Yuna lives a peaceful life on Besaid Island. He carries the consequences of his first pilgramage throughout the game as a limp arm, perhaps in homage to Braska and seeing as you unlock his overdrives by collecting Jecht spheres he probably only unsheathes his arm in his overdrives when he fights in their honour, with or without them.

His left arm is also a manifestation of his personality. Auron is usually the calm, reserved individual of the group who can always be relied upon but who is never overbearing or imposing. A mysterious figure who will only impart wisdom where wisdom is needed.

It could also be a reference to the fact that he's essentially carrying dead weight in every other character, both in terms of strength and indeed in terms of character design xD

I really can be over elaborate when I want to..
 
As a note to his gourde thing that he uses its been awhile since I played this game but I think I remember in a cut-scene he opens it and pyre flies come out as a note that he is dead. I think its the opening video where hes looking at sin come toward dream Zanarkand.

Yeah i just watched the opening of X and its when you see Auron on some archway and Sin is heading toward Dream Zanarkand. He holds his gourd up and you see 6 pyre flies float up.

Yunalesca killed Auron right? with that blast he fell on his left arm, he is the undead and crippled lolz
 
I reckon Aurons outfit is !@@#$%%^& great so great in fact i used to cosplay as this guy back in the day the only thing i couldnt find was his Katana sword on ebay because that would have been excelent
 
Oh geeze he does it because hes a samurai hence his bushido....some samurai hid their left arms untill tough battles as a show of strength among other symbolic reasons
 
His outfit certainly doesn't annoy me, I think it's actually really cool. I guess he just rests him arm like that when travelling around, maybe because it's damaged in some way from all the fighting he did previously, heh I dunno, but his outfit looks great in my opinion. I like his collar a whole lot, too.
 
Auron is supposed to be based off of a ronin, or wandering samurai. My memory is a bit fuzzy, but you could probably look up the term & see these things apply yourself.
 
I think its likely a mobility factor. You WOULD think it be the sleeved side that would be uncovered. He likely leaves his arm hanging in that "limp" position for the added down force of grabbing the hilt in mid air with BOTH hands and bringing it down. Having his arm hanging so close to his chest would mean he could easily slide it out to follow through on his sword strikes. While I could be incorrect, it seemingly makes sense so I'm not sure why there was any issue about Aurons costume, I actually enjoy the outfit.
 
I think it just makes him look more badass:)

Found this little thing online, seems best to me.

It's something ronins do. A ronin is a samurai without a master, and keeping your arm in a sling is a symbol of that.

Auron originally had some association with the Warrior monks (I believe he was one), but ended up leaving, then joining Braska for his pilgrimage. After Braska died summoning the Final Aeon, Auron was now technically without a master. This of course leaves a hole in the plot you could drive a truck through: Why didn't he unsling it after becoming Yuna's guardian?

FFX clearly has no actual samurai, but it seems that they're trying to follow the overall principle.

As for the jar on his side, it's to hold alcohol. Bad asses and alcohol go hand in hand.
