So, in XIII there is a feature called Auto-battle that pre determines your moves for you while in gameplay.

Do you use this feature at all? Or would you rather go to the Abilities and chose your own? Or rather you did both? why?

Explain.

Well, most of the time I let the game play itself, since standard attacks killed the enemy only slightly slowly than scrolling through abilities did, and the AI was reasonably good with healing. But for boss battles, I was forced to take over, because the AI suddenly became incredibly stupid and would die within about thirty seconds...

I would sometimes use abilities later in the game instead of just pressing auto battle all the time. Usually Auto battle gives you all the abilities that help kill the enemy. If you are high in the crystarium as a Synergist, usually auto battle will give you every possible buff so that you can defeat the enemy really fast. After the game, I had to do it myself.. because auto battle is not the best strategy against those tough monsters. Auto battle is just there if you want a faster battle.. but you may die through it.. so it is best not to use auto battle in a really tough fight. You need to use your abilities and plan a good strategy. In XIII the AI does everything possible for you to win.. if you have a good strategy. So I think abilities are more useful. Signature moves are really useful but you do not get them till really late in the crystarium. In boss fights.. it is more better to use abilities. In a simple battle.. auto battle helps.

I used buffs first If I could help it, or stunning moves, or debuffs if I know the enemy's weaknesses, then auto-battle.

I honestly used Auto Battle all throughout XIII unless I was using Full ATB Abilities, it just seemed like a waste of the time since the computer knew what to do better than I did...

I used Auto-battle for the majority of Final Fantasy XIII. I only found a few situations in which Auto-battle is not effective. One of them is Lightning as a Ravager. Lightning's best quality in battle is her fast animations/high speed. But since she has both magics and strikes, Auto-battle will alternate between them. Using Fire, Flamestrike, Fire, Flamestrike, Fire takes a considerable amount of time longer than 5 Flamestrikes or 5 Fires, for the same damage.
Another is when I have Sazh as Commando. As most of us know, Sazh is used mostly for two reasons: getting Haste early, and his special Blitz ability. I would use Blitz almost every turn, which does not happen with Auto-battle.
A third is when I need one or two buffs or debuffs, and I don't want them in the order they give. Perhaps I would need Protect before Haste or Pain before Slow. I would use Abilities manually then.
The last is for Full ATB skills, self explanatory really.

I use Auto-battle for quick, easy battles and when I have my paradigms set up perfectly. Every now and then I will insert a manual ability where needed, or for certain characters. Later on in the game, especially with tougher bosses, I tend to put the most important character as the leader, and manually control him/her. I find the Auto commands for Saboteurs don't work well, so I like to be able to control my Saboteur, and my Commandos.

So far that's all im using for the small fry, but for the bosses i go from strongest ability to the weakest, using commands. it's how i've always done things with previous FF games.

I heard something about it being an option where you can turn this off, but I would prefer they keep it the same like last year. Mainly because I used both manual and auto, most of the time if I know I can easily beat an enemy or im training then I auto, for the most part it really is easy to input the commands yourself, I still did it maunally (yes even on boss fights too).

Only for boss battles or hard hunts etc I would actually choose my abilities. I felt the computer knew when to use blitz before I could work it out (stupid enemies kept moving) I think it may have been even more boring for someone to actually choose their abilities then to let auto battle play. Though I would take a conscious effort to paradigm shift even if I was using auto-battle.

I never didn't use Auto-battle. What was the point wasting time scrolling through attacks when the auto battle was going to pick exactly what I did anyway :hmph: It's a very stupid battle system if you ask me.

I used auto battle at the beginning of the game up to around chapter 7, but then I tried out the abilities part and now I only use auto battle for healing and really hard boss fights.

I used auto-battle most of the time, excluding difficult boss fights, or many of the "missions" on Pulse.

I guess I was lazy, but at the same time, it did take the difficulty and strategy out of the fights. Then again, this one could be up for debate.

Thats the exact same thing I did, Once I got used to selecting my own commands I always went manual, the only time I auto battled really was when i needed to heal especially when i was doing missions and needed to heal up fairly quickly and whenever I was fighting a new enemy for the first time and I was using sab, onc ei knew their weakness I stopped using auto.

When it comes to XIII, I just get comfortable with the Auto-Battle. When things get like very critical stages, I manually use abilities such as Esuna, Raise, and Cura. When you get like close to the finale, that's when you have to get very serious of what commands you really wanna use.

For me, I use abilities manually for Prudent Planning paradigm using Faith and Bravery on all team members, and if HP gets really low, I manually use Cura. This was also a good use of strategy for the grand finale.

The thing about auto-battle is that, yes, you can win easier battles with that thing BUT you'll take forever to do so, therefore getting a lower star rating and thus not-so-great spoils.

I use auto battle quite a bit- but I've not long started the game and I'm still getting used to it. I do use the abilities command for longer battles, but the shorter ones it's better, I feel, to use auto- because you get a better score I've found (not that I actually understand the scoring system...)

I hated auto-battle, to be quite frank the npc's are geniuses compared to auto-battle. The only time's I ever used it were with SAB and SYN.

Up until mid chapter 11, I was using Abilities the entire time. Then I got tired of mashing the X button so much and threw it on Auto-battle because it chose the right moves to use anyways. Except when I wanted to use a specific move like Lightning's Army of One.

I use auto-battle almost all the time, except in a few cases where I have to heal or if I know an enemy will die shorty so I manually attack without letting the bars fill up.
