a new project allegedly is in the works:

http://www.gamespot.com/news/baldurs-gate-project-in-the-works-at-beamdog-report-6354851

I think it's much more likey though it isn't really new. That the game will just be ported from pc to consoles.

Anyone interested.
I have played the pc game but I might be willing to play a PS3 version of the game if it's complete (has everything from Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2 including Throne of Baal).

A new Baldur's Gate? :hmmm: somehow I just don't see it happening... I mean it might just be ports... But Bioware has too much right now, Mass Effect 3, Another Dragon Age, keeping SW:TOR.

Agreed...

that's why I am convinced it's only a port.

Still I assume alot of fans have never played it so there's a market for the games if they can be ported to the X-Box and the PS3.

With the success of Dragon Age and Skyrim it might be a good time to try to cash in to that with ports as it will probably be a while before DA-3 is ready.
Of course there are rumors that DA-3 will have multiplayer, something I am not intersted in but if it does that will delay that game even further so a port of the BG games will give fans of fantasy rpgs something to chew on for a while.:hal:

I don't think it should happen, modern takes on old classics like this NEVER live up to my expectations, and even then I haven't actually beaten BG2 despite owning it and it's expansion pack for well over 8 years..

New people should be able to experience

the game.So just because a game is a classic doesn't mean that it should remain unavailable to new fans because it's no longer in circulation.

So I guess I am in favor of producing console versions of the Baldur Gate games so long as they don't make any substantial changes. :jon:

I think you are safe. I see people doing it all the time. :hmmm:

As for me, if they do decide to make a BG3, they better make it for PC. I could give a shit about what other ones they make it for, but PC better be one of them. I like the idea of being able to continue my BG character through more shit.

Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition hitting iPad alongside PC version this summer

Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition will be released on iPad this summer courtesy of Overhaul Games. It will launch alongside the PC release and include the same improvements as well as the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion pack all running on the Infinity Engine. This also includes the new story content, extra quests and a new member to the party. No exact date just yet.

Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition to raise level cap, enforce party limit

Beamdog has let slip some more details on how its new content will be integrated into Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition.

20120417baldursgate.jpg

“Our plan is to raise the level cap a bit in [Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition] to allow for the new content,” beamdog’s Trent Oster said on Twitter.

“We won’t be changing the game to more than six characters, the entire game would have to be re-balanced. [Baldur's Gate]‘s fun is partly the compromises,” he added.

Oster noted that Beamdog won’t make changes to the original game’s difficulty to suit modern tastes, and described the new content as “nasty“.

Beamdog expects to produce German, Spanish and French localisations and has hopes for even more translations. Interestingly, the developer is looking into a boxed version thanks to fan demand – but is shying away from consoles.

“I can’t ever see us doing an Xbox version. The controller isn’t a good fit. Have to change too much,” Oster said in response to a fan query.

The Wii U’s controller, on the other hand, seems ideal, especially as the game is already coming to other tablets – but Oster does not seem keen.,

“We don’t do Nintendo development. Our previous experience with Nintendo was enough to ensure there will not be another,” he explained.

Oster is presumbly referring to the enhanced version of BioWare’s MDK 2 which it produced for the Wii in 2011.

The developer has been quite forthcoming, sharing details of its plans for current and future projects. Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition is due on iDevice, Mac and PC in northern summer.

Thanks, Shack.

Too bad about the X-Box.A lot of people will be disappointed I am sure. Still nothing specific about the PS3.That's the one I am really hoping for.

Baldurs Gate: Enhanced Edition not coming to Wii U, says Beamdog boss

Beamdog co-founder Trent Oster has said there won’t be a Wii U version of Baldurs Gate: Enhanced Edition, citing past experiences as the reason why.

baldursgateskull.jpg

Oster was at Overhaul Games when it brought MDK2 to WiiWare with motion controls. However, as he would go onto explain, the relationship between it and Nintendo has put off Beamdog bringing Baldurs to the new hardware.

“We don’t do Nintendo development,” he said in a tweet. “Our previous experience with Nintendo was enough to ensure there will not be another.”

He continued: “My problems with Nintendo are: requiring 6,000 unit sales before payment, a certification process that took us 9 months and a 40mb limit.”

It isn’t known if it had passed the 6,000 milestone, meaning payment for the game.

He concluded Nintendo wasn’t a “good” platform holder, adding Wii was “a toy, not a console.”
Baldurs Gate: Enhanced Edition launches this summer on iPad, PC and Mac.

Forgotten Realms author to pen new Baldur’s Gate content

Dave Gross has signed on as lead writer for the new content included in Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition.

20120427davegross.jpg

Gross has a long history with swords and sorcery, if we still call it that, having been an editor for Polyhedron Newszine and a couple of Dungeon and Dragon magazines. He’s behind a couple of the Forgotten realm novels, including Black Wolf and Lord of Stormweather, as well as Pathfinder Tales’ Prince of Wolves and Master of Devils.

Also, he seems quite funny:

“I was sitting in a coffee shop complaining about the lack of classic RPGs for the iPad when [Beamdog boss Trent Oster] appeared in a sulphurous cloud and said, ‘Have I got a job for you,’” Gross said in a press release.

Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition is an HD remake of the classic RPG for iPad, Mac and PC, expected in northern summer. It contains a whole new party member and a slab of new content.

There’s going to be more to Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition than you remember, though Beamdog/Overhaul’s Trent Oster wants to be clear on a couple of things before anyone reaches for the torches, pitchforks or giant banners with the word “BETRAYAL!” in someone else’s blood.
“We would never DLC existing content. Any DLC content we plan to sell will be all new,” he states in this tweet here, adding “DLC=Downloadable Content, not furry earrings +3. The big guys have overcooked the term with badness. New BG storylines, New characters.” shortly afterwards. He even suggests the possibility of getting David Warner back into the studio to do more Irenicus dialogue when the (far superior) Baldur’s Gate 2 takes its turn to be brought kicking and screaming into the modern age.
But what could possibly be added to Baldur’s Gate? We have plenty of ideas of things that would be awesome, if unlikely, like a trip to Sigil and the Planes, and things that really need to happen, notably a full campaign starring Edwin the evil mage as he wanders the world being sarcastic to people. And things that would simply be hilarious, like an alternate path through the series based on the truly dreadful novelisations, so that you can gape in horror at the stupidity. That could even have a collector’s edition consisting of a copy of the books and a pack of matches for purposes of righteous vengeance.
(Personally, I’d also pay… ooh… £2 for the extra dialogue option: “Are you kidding? You expect to fool me about your identity by reversing your name? You have such little respect for me that this is your master attempt at manipulation on which your entire evil campaign rests? You insult me. You disgust me. I don’t care how high level you are – and on that note, if I can beat you with this game’s Level 7 cap, you’re not exactly ‘the shit’ power-wise – if you dare come at me with anything like this again, I will find your fancy doom armour and insert the spikes into you one-by-one until you run out of space in your orifices or I run out of patience. Do I make myself clear? Now get out of my sight before I lose my temper!” Baldur’s Gate players should know where that in the first game that fits…)
While no specifics have been announced, we can probably assume that at least one DLC will involve Minsc and Boo in some major way, and that you’ll buy it. We shouldn’t have to wait too long to find out though. If all goes well, Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition is due out in September…

There’s not long to go until the Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition lands, but it’s not the only project trying to give those RPGs a spit-polish. The Baldur’s Gate 2 Redux team is working on porting the sequel to the Dragon Age engine. One module came out in 2010, covering the opening torture dungeon, with the second, Athkatla, currently in the works, and the rest hopefully coming sometime this century.
The most recent release though is cool for fans even if it’s not playable – a Dragon Age engine recreation of that act, after the player escapes the dungeon to find David Warner voiced baddie Irenicus, pictured above looking very bored with the programming on his crystal ball one Sunday afternoon, taking on the whole city in magical combat. First spotted on David Gaider’s Twitter feed, you’ll find it here.

For reference, this is what it looked like originally:

2D or 3D, Irenicus’ head still looks silly. But that’s a nice transition between dimensions, we must say. On a scale of 1-10, where 10 is the highest, definitely a 94% in anybody’s books.

Looks nice. I hope to play it at some point.
