How do you feel about some states banning smoking in public in door places?

They recently did so in Ohio, and I really don't agree with it. At first it sounded appealing, but then I didn't like the idea of the government putting restrictions on business. I think the resturaunt or bar, or whatever should be able to decide if they want to allow smoking or not and may the government can encourage it by giving those resturaunts who do ban smoking a tax break? And it's kind of pointless to ban smoking in bars.

It has actually been hurting some businesses. There is a little bar and resturaunt near my house, and they have been losing a lot of money because most of the people who went there were smokers. They may have to file for bankruptsy now.

I like the idea of being able to walk into my favorite restaurant and not choke on someone else's smoke while I'm eating...however...I agree that it should be the restaurant owner's desicion, not the government...

In Ohio? Really? Didn't know that. But then again, I don't really listen to news anymore. =/ Hmm, but you're right though. The government shouldn't meddle with the restaurant owner's affairs. That's like their way of banning smokers from entering the restaurants, if you think about it.

I'm not a smoker, myself, but I do understand that there's smokers that would want to enjoy their meal while err, smoking as well. I mean, they usually have the smokers and non-smokers divided up anyway, right? So I don't see the harm in that.

good idea to be able to breathe in restaurants, but still.
This should be something the owners decide on their own.

I don't like the idea of smoking in restaurants, you go there to eat not to smoke. However, I don't see a problem in having seperate areas for non smokers and smokers. I have that in a local chinese restaurant up town. However..the smoking area is bigger then the non smoking one, which annoys me.

i definitely think that it should be up to the restaurant owner to decide whether to have smoking or not. if those people (like me) who don't smoke and don't want to go to restaurants where the smoke ruins the taste of the food, then they won't go to that restaurants, that leaves the decision up to the people.

the problem i have with partitioning smokers and non-smokers is that some of the places i have been aren't too good at doing that and the smoke flows over into the non-smoking section. nothing like second hand smoke. but sometimes it works.

I don't like the idea of banning smoking alltogether in restauarants, but I also think that restaurants should provide a seperate room for smoking because it isn't fair for families who don't smoke to come in to like a family restaurant and have to deal with smoking. Sure they can choose to go somewhere else, but why should one side have to choose to go somewhere else

some justice is being served, u hate smoking, kill you faster. i like living (so far) i want them do ban smoking from any public indoor facility

I completely agree with it. People don't need to smoke while eating, its disgusting. My sister smokes and i refuse to be around her when she does, I hate it when people smoke around me, especially when in a restaurants, you can taste it in your food. I think that they should just ban smoking in public, maybe people will quit smoking then.

I've dealt with smoking all my life because my dad smokes and his soon-to-be wife smokes too. I can't stand the stuff. In fact, I think it gives me heartburn and that's the last thing I want when I'm eating at a resturant. I understand they allow smoking in bars but in a family resturant they should have separate rooms for the smokers. As it is, I'll die from second hand smoke from my parents. I don't need anyone else contributing.

I'm a smoker, I bloody love smoking. It's fantastic. It also has a 500 year old European history and a MUCH older native American history.

Point 1) I never smoke in any non-smokers home, even if they say I can.

Point 2) Restaurants... It's about food so if they want to ban smoking in them, thats cool by me.

Point 3) Pubs/Bars... NOOOOOOO! Thats what pubs are all about! Chilling, no restrictions!

Point 4) Sorry, ain't got time for one, too busy smoking......

yea pubs and bars will suck to have it baned though good i'm trying so hard to quite. I find it so hard when everyone around you is smoking and you can just ask for one and they are fine giving it to you. Thinking about it i think this will hurt a lot of pubs as people could go over to someone's house so they can drink and smoke at the same, that or smoke outside then inside for some drinks etc, that does not sound as fun for those people gladly I don't smoke.

Thats why there should be a non-smoking area in Bars. Anyway, all of this is redundant as from July there will be no smoking in any UK pub.

So the smokers will all be outside.

I'm not bothered, it's like at the best parties, the action is always in the room where the smokers are!

Me neither. I have asthma, so I can't breathe good around the stuff and I'd love being able to sit at a restraunt without it seeming like a smoke bomb went of. A lot of people really over do it.

I support this motion fully. Aye, I hear that these businesses shouldn't have restrictions on them, but they're public places - why should my clean body have to endure dirty puffs of air being blown into my face by ignorant people, who don't give a deep-friend flying-shit about anyone elses health, when they do it?

here where i live there is a total smoking ban in ALL public places, im a smoker and i can deal with it, the only place i miss smoking is in the bars, but what ru gonna do.non-smokers should not be forced to breath in all that shit anyway

From July 1st in the UK, smoking will be banned in public places and Im happy for it! Ive been round smokers for most of my life and pardon the pun, but its a breath of fresh air for me that this has happened.

i am not a smoker and will never be a smoker, i can't say i want to inhale secondary smoke either. BUT you don't have a right to go into any restaurant you want and have the perfect condition. you have the right to chose which restaurant you want to go in and go in there.

restaurant owners should not be told by big daddy government whether or not they should allow smoking in the place that they own or not. if you don't like being exposed to the smoke then don't go in that restaurant. it probably will soon come around that government bans smoking all together, if people want to smoke let them, even it is harmful to them. the government is not going to tell me what i can and cannot do with myself or what i can eat (that's the next thing)

it's as much your choice as it is the restaurant owners.

Theres a no smoking ban in Public in Scotland at the moment, and I must admit, its nice to walk into a cafe and not choke on the smoke from the back of the restaurant. To be honest, I think its a good idea to ban smoking in public places. It means that parents can safely take their young children into restaurants and similar places without them having to inhale other peoples smoke.

I dont smoke, and dont see why I should be subjected to other peoples second hand smoke either. (Plus, I hated it when I would go out with family and come back reeking of other peoples stale smoke euuuw )
