better game

Wow. Specific topic I must say...

FF7 personally. Everyone's got their own preferences, but FF7 I was able to connect with teh characters more, it was set in a mopre desirable setting for me, and the story didn't blow dick.

I mean FFVIII was alright, but I really wasn't enthralled into the story, setting, characters like I was in VII.

I would have to say that although I love FFVIII and the GF's and Junction system.

My thought on the best game would have to be FFVII, due to the fact that yes the story is the best and it has the greatest villian who never went back to good once he became evil.

All hail Sephiroth.

wow, what a question. More people like FF 7 but they are people that like FF8 over 7. If you compare the graphics from 7 to 8, its a big improvement. I like to think that they worked more on graphics then then any else so thats why FF 8 wasnt that great.

It's hard for me to decide between the two. I really enjoyed both games for their own story lines and characters. As well, some things confused me with both game story lines.

I'm very fond of the character designs in FFVIII (the design, it's not fair to compare graphics to a game that was made after FFVII). Squall as the main character somewhat pulled away from the sterotypical muscle-man type instead being more slender and lithe.

But I will concede there was better character development in FFVII I think. I think Aerith was one of the well developed characters despite her short role in the over-all game. The gamers got to know her, her personality, and saw her change slightly from the sly, street smart flower girl to a beautiful martyr that smiled 'til the very end (yar, Tifa's my fave FF female, but I still love Aerith too <3)

The battle system were a bit similar in that there was a need to "equip" something the character. I know that the junction system can be tedious, but I only drew magic once per random encounter, and the materia system could be rather debilitating if you aren't careful with all those magic materia.

As well, the good and bad thing in FFVIII is that the enemies level up with your characters, and therefore gives you a decent challenge in every battle, but if you don't even out your party, you can end up with an overly powerful enemy to fight. FFVII keeping enemies at a certain level while the characters levelled up.

I honestly think both games are good and you should try to play them both ^_^

I loved both, but VII is the clear winner between these two, imo. The story was a lot more deep and gripping; and the cast of characters were far more interesting to follow. As was noted elsewhere in the forum, VIII became a tale about Rinoa and Squall and all the other characters were left in the lurch. VII kept all the characters in the story and developed them all. Each had their motives and individual stories to tell. The game, also, had difficulty, where's VIII lacked that. Everything in VII came together, from the music, story, characters, battle system, locales and overall charm. VIII is still a joy to play, but for me, VII takes it.
