Minor Spoiler

That crap is rigged, damn it! Has anybody else had trouble with these guys? Their stats are superior and every time I get near that damn goal to score it's either, half time, Wakka shows up, or the end of the game. Did you guys beat them and if so, how?

P.S. I do not have Jecht Shot and am wondering how to get it if you mess up on the ship.

If you mess up on the ship, you can only get it again after the match (using the boat to get back to Besaid). As I recall, anyway. Could be wrong.

As for the game, do you have it set to auto? If not, good start. =P I'd suggest using your mid-fielder to lure ONE side of the enemy players to ONE side of your defense lines - to a point just before all players head in your general direction. Just before this point, pass the ball to Tidus (make sure you're on his side of the sphere) and Sphere Shot once you get right up to the goal.

I find that once you get the hang of this routine, it's pretty flawless. The only thing you need to worry about later on is how high the keeper's catch skill is vs your shoot skill. You're a ways off that for now, so stick to the above and you should be fine.

I started doing that toward the end but they kept either catching up to me and stealing the ball or the goalie would block it. I got upset and just turned off my Playstation 2. I did only five games but I got aggravated at how cheap it was being. The first game I used Auto and a little Manual than the rest of the times I used Manual.

I agree with this, the lure method is the way to go for this game. Use one player to bait a Goer, then pass it away to the wide open player.

Now, my suggestion would be to continuously make passes the first half of the game. Keep the ball out of Luca's hands but just passing off the whole time. Landing a successful pass gives the passer experience, so be sure to get everyone involved. Then maybe you can get most, if not all, the players to level 2 or 3. This is a significant help for the second half, even though the Goers will still be way better. And if you have a chance at the end of the first half, try to sneak in a goal using the above method to steal a 1-0 lead going into halftime. Don't forget too, keeping the ball out of Luca's hands will prevent them from gaining experience and keep their levels the same.

Come second half, do the same thing, possibly trying to land a goal with Tidus around the 1:45 mark. Then when Wakka comes in, do the same thing to get him alone in front of the net and his Venom Shot should be a goal. It's not easy, but you should be able to land a 2-0 or 2-1 victory if done right.

And also, make sure to get Botta involved, but do not get close to the Goers with him because he's pathetically weak at this point. Jassu is a great baiter because he has a high EN, just in case you do get an encounter. And make sure to keep Letty away from Graav, because Graav owns him at this point in every aspect. Tidus and Datto have a really low PA, so you'll have to get close the intended receiver, but they're both capable of taking a blow from 1 defender.

Best of luck!

As of late, I have not had much trouble against them in that game. If I can get the lead, I know I have a good chance to win, and for me, it was rather easy. Maybe I just had alot of luck on my side, but this is how I did it.

I would get the ball to Datto or Tidus, get up as close as I could to the goal, and shoot. Most of the time, it would go in, but there were a few instances where it did not, in which case, I would manage to get the ball back and score. By the time Wakka came in, I would have 1-2 points, and win the game.

Did probably take some luck, but I had it, and maybe you can have it too.

You're probably edging in a little too close to them then. Hug the side of the sphere tightly (do allow for some minor distance), and you'll notice their defender tags you after you get within a certain radius. Pass the ball if you're about to get 'caught'.

It is a very specific tactic, so will take some getting used to for newcomers. Don't give up on it 'cause the reward is really beneficial at this stage in the game.

How do I get away from a locked on target anyway? I try to swim way and throw the ball but they always catch up.

Either way, I'm going to try the baiting method and the passing method too since I have seen it somewhere before.

You know when I play it I really think about it in the sense of soccer. The baiting method is a good one, but don't try to just whip it all the way up to Tidus. If you have to move it around and move it slowly. If you have to throw it to the guy next to you, do it. All you need is one goal. And yes I would suggest getting it to Tidus to score is the best way though.

I've beaten them on the first play through, in order to do it you have to follow my advice:

1. The trick is to learn the jecht shot on the boat
2. In the begining of the first half you have to grab the ball, and pass it between your defensive players only to keep it from the Goers. What this will do is increase the experience level of your defenders.
3. With time running out in the first half (maybe 40-50 seconds), get the ball to tidus.
4. Get him up the side and "iso'ed" on 2 defensive players then get the jecht shot off- you should score.
5. In the begining of the second half play keep-away, maybe try to get another goal for Tidus but if you take that chance be aware that when Wakka comes in you have to faceoff again, and you probably wont be able to score after he gets in the game.
6. If you are lucky you should win 1-0, 2-1, or 2-0.
7. Watch the cool victory trophy scene.

By the way- the Goers aren't even the best team, wait till you play the psyches who are wait better than the goers.

If you missed it on the ship you have to get it as a prize (I think)- I don't think it can be tech-copied.

I didn't beat the goers in the first game.
It doesn't matter that much anyway.
As for the Jecht shot..it took me several tries to get it.
I just kept replaying the manuver on the ship until I got it.
Once the regular matches started I just recruited the best players I could including Brother and I won just about every match after that.

I beat them the other day, 2-0. I kept passing and in the second half I scored w/ Tidus then Wakka. I got 24 power spheres from it!

There is a flaw in your plan, though. You can only use Jecht shot in the second half and ONLY if you do something with Tidus to get him a level. You pretty much only get one shot with it, too, so you should be right next to the goal when you use it.

Cardiac Kid- Thats not a flaw. So get the ball to tidus in the first half once and he will level- and can use the jecht shot at the begining of the second half, then play keep away.

I only said it was a flaw because it was in the middle of the plan, as the way to get the first point.

This game used to be extremely difficult for me, but I've done it so many times now, its actually one of the easier games you'll play(Aside from any game you play against the original Kilika Beasts team.) My record is 6-0, and my most recent win was 4-2, the key is ball control and remembering that even though the Aurochs suck, Datto can score for you if you get him right in front of the net

This person brings up a good point: if you play blitzball enough before you can get Wakka, Datto becomes a much better player IMO than Wakka, and you don't have to worry about re-training someone else to make them good.

My current team consists of (in order):Tidus, Wakka, Zev Ronso, Berrik, Jassu, and Miyu.

I also think that last I checked, the Aurochs I got rid of are now on different teams, trying ever so hard to beat me.

But I find that replacing the Aurochs (if you plan to play for a long time) will eventually bite you in the face. Those players will eventually be impressive at some point of their leveling up. They might not seem spectacular, but it's a whole new ball game when you have to play against them. Keepa in particular was a pain in the ass the second he decided to be a good goal keeper for the Al Bhed... >_> jerk.

After that , I swore to keep the Aurochs intact if for nothing else but to make Wakka's shot "Aurochs Spirit" at its most powerful.

I just find it too boring to keep all the aurochs, blitzball for me is just about leveling up and seeing what I can learn and going undefeated, I only ever lose or tie if Im trying to level up worse players(Nedus has 30 speed forever, thank god he can learn sphere shot quickly.) I do remember that keepa actually earns 99 SH though which I always found funny. I pretty much have Tidus, Zev Ronso and Wedge on everytime then I alternate people like Kyou, sometimes Biggs just cause I have Wedge, Wakka and Rin just for fun, etc., but Zev is a beast all game and Wedge starts out with great stats except for his PA and CA, but ironically enough I believe Wedge has the highest CA at lvl 99 with a 76 or something like that, still Ill take nimrook everytime if he leaves the Al Bhed

Protip - Use Letty to lure Graav, Abus and Bickson out, pass to Datto. Use Datto to draw his defender out, throw to Tidus. Score with Tidus. Then when you get the ball again, move the character you control to behind your goalie and wait for the events to happen.

I think you get a HP Sphere for beating them.
