Buying a game system for one game

I bought a gameboy advance to play the latest Pokemon game.
Then once they started making Pokemon for DS I bought a DS.
Also bought my PS2 to play FFX.

It seems all I do is buy systems to play certain games...although I believe I have reached my limit. Not going to buy a 360 or PS3 to play FFXIII...simply can't afford that.

TBH I sort of did this with the DS I just recently bought for the sole purpose of playing the FFIII and FFIV remakes :hmmm: However, I learned in the interim that there are quite a few other games for DS that I'd like to play as well, so it wasn't a complete blowing of money on something I won't use necessarily all the time. And I do love the system overall and what I've played of IV so far, though I am a bit disappointed with some of the voice acting and how they remade the soundtrack with less evocative instruments :/ Oh well.

I bought an Xbox 360 solely for the purpose of playing Tales of Vesperia. :lew:

It worked out in the end though because it turns out there are a lot of decent games on 360. And I haven't even finished Tales of Vesperia yet. :hmmm:

I've spent most of my time playing Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 though. Zombie killing action, ftw.

I'm guilty of this, I bought the Playstation for FFVII, though, I obv got more games out of it, same with the PS2, I only really wanted that for FFX, but I got into a fair few other games other than that. So they weren't realy bad purchases, especially with the PS2 being backward compatible

I bought the PSP just for Crisis Core though >_> Well actually, i think I bought it for WoTL, and I haaaaated it, if it wasnt for crisis core that would have been my biggest waste of cash ever because that's all Ive bothered to play on it.

The DS is kinda similar, i only wanted it for the FF's, but I have used that a fair bit - not recently mind, and I need to get the mic fixed/replaced -__-

The PS3 was the stupidest thing I have ever done. I bought it. Played and completed FFXIII. Haven't dusted it off since

Guilty as charged

It's not even like I have more money than sense, I just have no sense :rage:

Guilty as charged ^^"

Bought a Dreamcast to play Shenmue, way back in 2000. Payed about 500 DM (or 250€ the DreamCast and 160DM (80€) for Shenmue and later another 70€ for Shenmue II and it was worth every Pfennig.
I think that I played no other game as much as I played Shenmue.

Ah I forgot about the Dreamcast, I only bought that so I could play PSO, and rack up a massive fucking phone bill in the process :rage:

Actually yes, it was me actually. I wanted my wife to be able to play Okami again, and so I bought her a PS2 recently (in the last 2 months) Now I use it to play disgaea 2 when I can but I think I'm going to see if I can find a copy of Xenogears out there... sigh.

Try Amazon. I saw it on there for $19.99 new. It was some kind of warehouse deal.

My original intention for buying a DS was to play FFIII. Though I wanted to play other games on it too. And it is great when with a group of people, especially if you have to sit around waiting for something. (Long car rides, waiting in line, planes) I also have many gameboy games to play.

i will never get a game system for just one game if theres only one game that i want on the system that means its got mostly no interesting games for me anyway so why bother and besides alot of games come on more then one system so its always possible to check what other systems the game is on and see if the system interests you more

I'm buying a DS soon just for "The 4 Heroes of Light", but I'm just getting a cheap one off of craigslist for less than $50... but other than that I don't think I've bought a console just for one game.

Now that I think of it, yes I have. I begged my parents for a GBA SP just for KH: CoM, and it appeared a few weeks later at Christmas ^^

Nah I never did it. The only time i wanted to do this is when i wanted a Ps3 for Final Fantasy XIII and plus i thought that SE was making a remake to FFVII.

i bought an original xbox just for halo. :D and for 2yrs that i had it i didnt buy a single game except halo2. i just recently bought a ps2 just for FFX, but that was only $20.

I actually have a question I wanna ask, and it's related to this thread, so I figure I could just stick it in here rather than make a new thread >.<

So just wondering, how many games would you need to buy to justify the purchase of a system?

I'm been thinking more and more of buying an XBOX 360 for at least 4 games I know of that I want to play that are only available on that system, but is that enough reason to shell out money on a gaming console? Should I just turn my back and wistfully think about them every so often? 'Cause I'm happy with my PS3, for sure, but those few games nag at me every so often D=

Usually I would say at least 5 but that also depends on how much you plan to play the games and how much for the console itself. The lowest I would go is 3 games unless you can get the console for less than $50.

What I sometimes do, is that I will wait for next gen to come out. Then the system that have a few games that you want to play will be very cheap and so will the games. You won't have to worry about spending 100+ dollars on something! I think that is what I am going to do for the PS3. Most of the games that I play are for both the 360 and the PS3 anyways, and I am happy with the 360. Not only that, but I do not have nearly as much time to game as I once did so I do not know how much I would actually play the playstation.

Another thing, are these games multiplayer? It might be worth it if you have friends that would play the multiplayer games with you, because you would probaby play them a lot.

Once I was thinking about buying a gameboy advace for an extreemly rare copy of Mother 3 (best game in existance, in my opinion.). Then I realised I had a DS. I also wanted to get either Pokemon Gold or Silver.
Unfortunatly, the only way to get Mother 3 in english is via emulator. X_X

4 exclusives is definitely enough. i only have 3 exclusives for my xbox and its halo, forza, and fable. Also the multiplatform games are usually better on the xbox. i would go out and buy it. youre ps3 will then just be sitting there collecting dust untill Versus.

Hey good sir's, ma'am's.
Ive done this before, about a year ago i bought a used see thro blue/ice N64 but it was really cheap. And the game South Park, Since i remember havin load's of good time's pissing on snowball's an throwin them at turkey's as a boy age's ago. Too bad it's not as good as i remember.
I still only have 1 game for N64 now, i used to have alot of N64 game's way back in the day's. With my fav. N64 Game ocarania of time, i already have that one for the gamecube right now tho. Maybe later, i'll look into buyin some other n64 game's. But i'd never buy a newer type expensive console like 360 or ps3 for only 1 game, i think you gotta be one sad bastard to do that. (i dont mean you guy's here, other sad bastard's.) I think it's fine for old system's that are cheap tho, i was actually thinking of buying a dreamcast and a super nintendo actually. But not just for 1 game tho.

I'm guilty of this. Years ago, I bought a Gamecube just so I could play Pokémon Colosseum >_> My Grandad had recently passed away, and I'd inherited some money, so I was going to use some of that to buy the Gamecube + Pokémon Colosseum boxset, when my mum saw how serious I was being, she ended up going out and buying it for me instead. xD

Although, I did go on to buy a lot of Gamecube games, including some of my all-time favourites (like Baten Kaitos) at the time I definitely only wanted the Gamecube for this one game xD

I wouldn't buy a console for just one game... I just couldn't justify spending that much money on one experience. Before I bought my PS3, I came up with a list of about 8 PS3 exclusive games that I wanted to play or would want to play in the next year.

Having said that, I have made this mistake before. I bought my Wii to play the new Zelda years ago, and now that it's finally coming out (Skyward Sword), I don't want to play it (I'm Zelda'd out). Mind you, I HAD hoped that there would be more games on the Wii for me to enjoy. I just failed to find any. I'm now determined to find a collection of good Wii games. I don't want to waste it.
