Lightning Returns Buying Lightning Returns? XD

Well I have had it pre-ordered for a long time, so I will most certainly be picking it up on launch day as I am normally off on game releases anyway (Thanks work) so yes. I am very much looking forward to play something new as well. I have bought so many old games and not many new ones.

Ahahahahahahahaha.

Absolutely not. I'd rather nail my feet together than spend a single penny on such an abhorrent product that has no reason to exist.

I probably will. I'll just wait until it drops substantially in price, say maybe in the region of £10 or south of that. Given what happened with FFXIII-2 on shelves and on Amazon, I reason that it won't take long for this one to drop like a brick in the sea either.

And just as well. This was never going to be a game worth full price in my opinion anyway. Heck, even a game I'm considerably excited for isn't worth full price these days, let alone Lightning Returns, which I only want to try out of gameplay curiosity. Abandon all ye hope for the story and writing. Meanwhile, one glance at the RRP of PS4 and Xbone games today like Knack and Ryse is enough to make me shriek.

Yep. All I have to decide is whether to stick with my current preorder or purchase the collector's edition from S-E directly.

I've seen extensively the gameplay with numerous people explaining it. its pretty consistent between each perspective of the game.what they share in common though in all is having all the GP (or AP, i forgot) in order to use attacks. So the more GP/AP you have, the more attacks you can make. so all of it being real time, (no longer turn base) some of it looks fun, others looks pretty much the same as FF13 but without no ATB bar (meaning, the spamming in attacks feels even more spammed than before) So it looks like the tedious moments in FF13 are still there, but just like previous games, they wont feel as tedious. although looking at it carefully, it looks incredibly easy. I've seen Lightning make over 30 attacks and the enemies haven't made 1 single attack.

On another note: this is probbly the Mega Man of all FF games in the sense that all the hidden gems of 13 are not shown because they were never important. just like how tiornys constantly talks about gathering momentum in ff13 as a key aspect in the battles to avoid tedious. but then again, it was still too easy and LR makes it look as if gathering momentum isn't a hassle. i saw some gain 5 stars just starting out.

However, just to be fair to LR, the new key features are specific ways to make knock out (an amp'd up stagger) and perfect guarding by timing it properly since its real time. you still can't move lightning, but since its real time, it seems important to guard perfectly and find ways to knock out (if you're fighting a strong character). but again, all for the sake of ranking system.

The costumes can be customized to certain abilities, but certain abilities are locked. A reviewer thought it was a bad thing due to not being making them fully customizable, and i suppose it is bad if you like a specific costume but certain combination of costumes hinder your battle (despite looking way too easy), but i tend to think it was bad because there were only "one" locked abilities in costumes. i think to make the costumes more appreciative, they should've made each one do specific things. but i suppose that wouldn't make them anymore different from paradigms and SE could've not add costumes alltogether. still...i do believe more than 1 ability lock would be good to make sure you appreciate other costumes more other than just visual design.

Apparently the main story can be beaten in under 1-10 hours. The side quests also don't have much value other than improving your stats. so it seems like this game is still lacking. Even a ff13 and 13-2 fan had said that this felt like "half a game" or "expansion pack".

The only real reason I can think of to buy this is to experience a definitive ending to this sorry saga...although of course, if you haven't "played" XIII-2, then you don't really need to, because the one good thing that can be said of FFXIII was that it was self-contained, and didn't need the excess baggage of two sequels to be complete in and of itself.

Anyways. Believe it or not, I may wind up getting this...XIII-2 dropped to about £15 within a few weeks, and I have an Amazon voucher I can't seem to get rid of. Maybe I'll experience a moment of madness. Hahahahaha. Ha.

I have it pre-ordered and will be picking it up at midnight if my gamestop has a midnight launch. i was first in line for 13-2 and was the first person in my city (Lansing) to have it :P.

Im actually really excited to play this game, that said i havnt watched any gameplay videos, just the trailers because i dont wanna ruin anything for myself.

And just as 13-2 was im sure itll be a good game that you either hate it, or you love it. We shall have to see :)

I'll get it, just to finish off the series. (Liking it, though, is another matter entirely.)

I'm fair enough that I'll at least complete story, even if it's not my favorite. :lew:

I might get it if it goes digital or I watch a walkthrough on YouTube and it looks interesting enough to justify driving somewhere for it. With FFX HD coming out the very next month though, I'll probably skip on LR for that game instead. I've seen some things that keep me interested in LR, and I've seen some other things that make me want to forget it exists. So I definitely want to do some research before taking the plunge.

I've already beaten it (over here in Japan). It's a GREAT game. I will admit that it takes a good 2 or 3 days to get used to everything. Before you learn the maps, system, how to manage your time, etc. it is very frustrating. Once you do though, it is a lot of fun with an exciting battle system.
I won't spoil anything, but feel free to ask me anything about it. I already got my platinum trophy so I should be able to explain any questions you may have :)

It did not sell well in Japan and failed to surpass both of its prequels when going by sales. I still think it has a chance to sell well here. Maybe it will sell more than XIII-2, but the main reason I want the game is that I have been patiently waiting to see the final storyline of the series. Some of my favourites are returning and I rather expect them to tie up loose ends rather quickly.

I will also follow the pattern and 100% this game just like I did with the previous two. I have seen the latest trailers but that is about it. I have read zero spoilers and I intend to keep it that way.

What I expect out of LR?

1) TO have no reference to any other XIII games and a final concrete ending as promised, not an ME3 situation where they will change the ending.

2) Innovative battle system. We can finally move around.... (that was a joke)

3) Characters to have their final demise. The story to be explained properly (maybe)

4) Replay value and not just achievements and trophies. I suppose those "impossible monsters" sound like a challenge. Square Enix did say that Vercingetorex was nearly impossible though. I would not trust their words.

5) Challenging. Lightning will be OP but hopefully not too OP.

I just want to see the series end and finally not on a cliffhanger.

I'm not big on Lightning Farron so I'm not going to buy the game and support the recent Square- Enix fad of Lightning. I believe in voting with your wallets.

If you like Lighting, buy it

If you dislike FF 13 & Lightning, then don't

easy as pie

That way, the company knows what to do.

I won't spoil anything, but will say that there is a concrete ending. I for one loved the ending.

There are two "secret" bosses that are both quite challenging. Neither was impossible, but both took some trial and error.

That I'm not going to agree with and I really feel ppl shoudlnt feel so strongly about it. Although presented well, the idea is a cop-out and a review actually says that.

For such a convoluted poorly explained story, the ending should most definitely not be something those who are wary of the game should look forward to.

It ends...but did it have the best ending? Well let's look at it this way. It barfs over 13's ending or rather the goal. So even though its about saving the world LR, the cast is still selfish as ever.

Gameplay is the only redeeming quality, but it doesn't look as diverse. The only diversive thing about it is paradigm shift customizable with dresses (it wouldn't be a bad idea if introduced in XIII) and finding specific knock outs for enemies. I'm sure some challenges, but looking at it I can see how Lightning has a huge advantage over the monsters. I'm sure secret bosses will be challenging, but IMHO usual playthroughs show an amateur gameplay but what I see is as if everyone is a pro.

Either way...I'm afraid you'll be disapointed Miyuki. Its a very tough sell...even for you. I also hearing a lot how its being beaten within a week to two days. So....if you haven't pre ordered, rent it.

Fair enough. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but I really liked the ending. Thought it wrapped everything up well. A few twists and turns and there is also a short "extra" ending if you beat enough quests. For those not into the 13 series, I can't recommend the game, but for those like myself who enjoyed 13 and 13-2, its a very welcome addition.

As far as difficulty, I strongly recommend people don't play on easy. Start with normal. I did and found the difficulty just right.

Many may not know this, but if you don't beat the game within the in-game time limit, it's GAME OVER. Literally, start over from the beginning. Sounds harsh for a FF game, but it really does work. There is also lots of replay value as after you beat the game the first time, certain new things are unlocked. For one, you can select "start strong" (or whatever they call it in English) which lets you keep just about all your items and start from the beginning (and all your stats).

Anyway, I thought the game was a blast. It's very different from previous games, but it is without question FF. If you're not in the 13 series, just wait for 15.

Its a difficult thing, this also has nothing to do with previous FF 13, the idea was still meant to be made to be accessible to people who never played ff13 and 13-2. so it begs the question of why ppl even bothered to play ff13 and 13-2 if LR still brings a whole new thing.

And even for fans, i dont think its being taken "that" well, i'm looking at reviews from the ff13 fans themselves and its very mixed. its not "bad" just very very mixed, but imagining someone who is wary of the series, you can understand mixed from fans means bad from others. For example, the common complaint is not tieing up lose ends (this is a review without spoilers).

Gameplay, i'll have to see for myself, it could be ppl have been playing on "easy" but i doubt it when using tutorials and walkthroughs, they usually use the standard mode. either way...its a tough sell..areally tough one.

I had never heard that the idea was to make LR a game so people unfamiliar with the series could get right into it. I beat it and can safely say that anyone who hasn't played 13 and 13-2 will be LOST with the story and who is who. There are a few flashbacks and references to the past games, but it should have just been called 13-3.

The battle system is solid. Very, very enjoyable. Takes a few hours to get used to it, but lots of fun.

As far as loose ends not being tied up, again not sure if I can agree. When people see the ending, even a few unexpected characters get an appearance. I'll leave it at that.

Anyway, some will dislike it. I just hope people give it a fair chance. It absolutely takes a few days to get used to the new "timed" system. There is a hill to get over, but once you do it is worth it. That's all I can really say. Give it a chance and see what you think. I'm on my 4th run through the game and still have things I can do (even after getting platinum).

thats one of the first things you hear about this game. and it was highlighted again quite recently on why it wasnt called FFXIII-3. which was so it would appeal to those who have never played it. it should be easy on the first day, heck on the first our. but i find other red flags, and thats the story and graphics. it looks like a PS2 game. and im not exagerrating, the textures are horrible. and trust me nothing is unexpected....either you never followed the PR trend, but it makes it clear who makes it in the game.

Look like a ps2 game........... yeah........ no, the game defo looks like a PS3 game, and a pretty nice one, yeah textures ain't great, it the worse looking entry in the XIII Saga, but it is far from looking like a PS2 game. I would know, as I played the game twice, the demo AND a developer build at Eurogamer this year.

Anyway i'm with martel, i'm gonna wait til it goes down in price, I liked XIII-2 for it gameplay and characters, i'm intrested in Lumina and Noel as well as Yuel and Caius, the story may be bad, but the Characters for the most part are well done, defo most of the cast introduced in XIII-2

not to me...it looks like a ps2 game....it doesn't look like much of an improvement....for the most...it looks like it was originally a ps2 game and it was remastered. The water didn't even look like water...

I partly blame the team for not realizing such an issue. the giant sword would pierce through the bigger outfits.
