My research online shows that :cactaur: is a summons in FF VI & FF VIII. I haven't had any luck confirming if those are the only two though. Does anyone who has beat X & XII know if it is available in those or not?

Trust me he's not in XII. XII used all new summons or summons that came from tactics and tactics advance.

You can use a Cactuar as a Summon in VIII, the GBA version of VI & Crisis Core. In answer to your question, no they they are not available as summons in X or XII.

Hey guys, thanks for the confirm. As for the GBA & Crisis Core, is it along way into the game before you can get it or is it fairly close to the beginning/middle?

For Cactuar in CC you need to beat it in mission 3-1-3 to unlock the first of three missions needed to unlock in on the DMW. The earliest you can get mission is chapter five. Can't help you with FFVI since I lost my copy of it and never got to finish it.

In FF VI Cactuar is an extra Esper. In the WoR (meaning no it's not near the start), defeat numerous Cactuar's in the desert by Maranda until Jumbo Cactuar shows up. Defeat him and you'll get the Magicite.

I think he may also be a summon in FFXII: RW, but I haven't really played that through to be able to confirm.

For FFVIII you can get the Cactuar Summon as soon as you get the Ragnorak - no sooner because you can't land on the little desert Island. YOu will know the island because you will see a little (technically huge) cactus popping up out of the desert sands from time to time, if you bump into it, it will initiate a fight with it. It has a lot of HP though, and will escape once it starts hesitating if you don't kill it intime (-__-)

Its a good area to do some AP training aswel, seeing as ypuo get 20AP a pop on the mini cactuaras..they have a high eva rate though and are prone to fleeong >_>

Anyway, thats a whole new topic >_>

I think you can only get Cactuar as a summon in the GBA Port of FFVI. I'm fairly sure he was one of four new summons.

Cactuar isn't in any of the other FF games as a summon though, just FFVI and FFVIII. Although I can't rule FFXI out...

There is a Jumbo Cactuar enemy in the Monster Arena in FFX I'm pretty sure though. I mean I may be confusing it with the FFVIII Summon/GF battle you can partake in, but I thought for sure that Jumbo Cactuar or some other name for him was a Monster Arena battle as well.

That's the second time Ive heard someone mention that, Im sure there isn't a cactuar in the monster arena....>_>

I don't even think there's a mini one there, if I'm wrong then my memory is seriously poor, but Im almost sure there isnt one

hmm perhaps not a jumbo cactuar but i can remember a cactuar also in that arena... might be the small one though... but i dont think this is relevant in the question if you can summon a cactuar is it..

Omg, Ive been through tthat areana in it's entirety twice, and I honestly can't remember xD

I stand corrected ... D:

well vid says it all :D he was soo irritating to defeat... i didnt had everything maxed out yet when i tried him... so what i did was just summon aeons and do some funky overdrives...

But with summoning cactuar do you actually mean getting him on your side? (never played 7 and 8 so i didnt know that this was possible)

How could you forget that battle? How is FF your section? :face:

There is no Cactuar summon in FFX but there definitely is a Monster Arena boss. He is a summon in FFVI, Crisis Core, FFVIII, Revenant Wings, Dissidia, and Chocobo Tales. That's it.

Ah, I knew it! I just remember that the one in FFVIII had a mustache like my friend that we call 3-piece. Sort of reminded me of Captain Hook from the movie Hook.

However, water spells when fighting Cactuar are always the best from what I recall. The GF in FFVIII was harder to beat than the Monster Arena battle since in FFVIII the only real effective Spell was Water. It just took longer than what it should have I think.

Yep, you had to find him in the desert (duh) and he was a real bitch. Could do a 10,000 needles attack instead of the standard 1,000 which was pretty much instant death. The worst part is when the fucker was under 5% health he tries to flee the battle... and if he does you have to redo the entire thing again. >.>
