Activision CFO Thomas Tippl has revealed that Infinity Ward's upcoming sequel to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will arrive this holiday season and in his opinion is "looking incredible."

Tippl went on to say that Activision's strategy for "leap-frogging development" between two developers has been paying out with back-to-back blockbusters for the company.

More from Tippl at the Wedbush Morgan Securities annual meeting:
"Last year we had probably beaten most expert expectations by growing the Call of Duty franchise over the tremendous success that was the first iteration of Modern Warfare," he said. "For 2009, Modern Warfare is coming back, we expect it will be the most anticipated game of the year. Perhaps the number one game of the year despite the fact that it's only going to launch in the holiday season...There is no doubt in my mind that it will again raise the bar for the shooter genre. The game is looking incredible and Infinity Ward, the studio that is developing it, is just doing an unbelievable job."
I hope that it really is as promising as what that guys making it out to be, I mean, CoD:WaW was an okay game but it failed to deliver what Modern Warfare did on all aspects...but that might be because I get bored of playing WW2 games when they're all nearly the same. So anyways, discuss what you'd like to see in MW2, what you want changing etc. :-)

Well I am quite amazed by the fact they do COD-s so fast :D An year or two and ready ... the same thing makes me think that it is quite impossible to raise the bar of shooters ... Killzone2 was under construction for years and years and it raise the bar only a little bit ... But in the end I hope it turns out good ;)

Yeah I think they manage to get them done so fast because they have different companies working on different titles eg, Treyarch and Certain Affinity worked on World At War whilst Infinity Ward will have started making CoD:MW2 as soon as CoD4 was finished.
It's a cool way of doing it and makes sure more CoD games are released, it just means with different companies they game quality will vary slightly from company to company :gasp:

Wow. That has got to be one of the weirdest trailers, but pretty cool, I've ever seen.

I'm really looking forward to this one. I bought CoD4: Modern Warfare I, after World at War came out. I did not buy WaW, but liked it. However, I'll probably no doubt get CoD6 here when it releases in November.

I am however, not happy with how often CoD is pumping out games. I know it's under 2 different development teams, but a game every 11-12 months for the last 3 years? That's kinda ridiculous.

Yea, I'll probably end up picking up this game. Haven't played a CoD game since the second one (sorry Meiks)... and I can't really say I got into either 4 or 5... but maybe I'll pick up this next installment.

Yeah its ridiculous but then again people buy it so its a good thing for both the developers and the players.

Actually the second call of duty look like a remake of the first cod but still id say the second one is the best next to cod4.If you change your minf on playing cod2 with me online you know where to reach me.

it does make me worry about the support for cod WaW currently, will it just drop off all of a sudden like what happened with cod4 on MWII's release? its all well and good pushing for fresh content, but they also need to think about the fact that some people are not always ready to make the jump on release date, and might prefer one title over another, support needs to be more like ID's and Valves than it is currently.

This game looks really sick but hopefully 2 people can play online or in Co op mode. I think this Cod is going to be overated just like 4. Its going to be a mass online game. Any new guns as of yet?

CoD4 wasn't really overrated imo, if anything I thought it raised the bar for shooter games both the storyline and multiplayer were amazing, and the multiplayer was pretty addictive. If anything I thought CoD5 was overrated but that was always going to happen because of how well CoD4 did. As long as MWII is like MW I'll be happy. :monster:

/revive ._.

Ever since I saw my younger brother play Medal of Honor 2 on the PS2...I was turned off from the MoH/CoD series...especially as they continued to release games and they continued to look exactly the same. WW2 wasn't exactly the most riveting era to hold an FPS in...or at least that's my opinion. -_- I guess that's my Counterstrike background coming to the fore. :wacky:

Seeing CoD finally bring FPS to the modern era is great, and I can only hope that MW2 will be as enjoyable as the first. I've only really played the multiplayer for MW1, but it's been a blast for me...multiplayer's always been the shining point of FPS's anyways, so my only desire is for them to stay the course in that regard. :monster:

Activision has confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will arrive this autumn with a suggested retail price of GBP 54.99, as a weak pound and record development costs take their toll. Their toll of GBP 54.99, to be specific.

Greedy little shits -__-

Jesus Christ! :gasp:

I've not seen many games at that price before... Only game I've seen close to that was Eye of Judgement, and that game came with the Playstation Eye. :brooding:

I'm probably not gonna bother getting it when it comes out.. Might wait a couple of years. Not had CoD4 for that long anyway.

It goes beyond reasonable and I think they're just becoming greedy based on how successful Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was. The UK economy has had an increase in its exchange rate from 1.04 on the euro in Spring to 1.17 now which indicates the economy is recovering. Other huge gaming companies such as EA have stated they wouldn't be raising their prices, furthermore, CoD:MW2 is the only game that has had a price increase from Activision, other titles are all set for normal RRPs even though they're using the basis of the CoD:MW devlopment engines =/

/end rant

Analyst Michael Pachter reckons Activision's controversial decision to raise the price of Modern Warfare 2 has nothing to do with a weak pound as the publisher has claimed.

"The price increase is a business decision," he told Eurogamer, noting that the pound is worth more today than when COD5 launched last year.
Funny how they change their tune when fans know exactly why it's more expensive >.>

wow far too expensive for a game.
i won't be getting that...not for a long time.
although i did love COD4, but it was over too quick for me, i rushed through that game in no time at all.

I'm excited for this game. THe only other series game I've ever played before was CoD2. Wasn't a huge fan of the first one but I'm definitely putting the time into getting good at this one.

This game should be amazing! I just got COD4 the other day for free for my xbox from my friend and its really good!...COD5 was good 2 and i hope they put the zombies in MW2 because that was one of the best features for COD5. The online for both games is really fun but i live in the boondocks so unfortunately i can't get high speed internet yet :/ hopefully soon so i can play COD online!

It's a very good game, I'm not sure if it's better or worse than MW yet. The single player is about the same length and I don't think the story is as good. The gameplay isn't better either, however it's not any worse, and I don't see how they could have improved upon MW in that regard. However the weapons are better, the ACOG scopes are brilliant, and some of 'gadgets' the weapons have are fantastic, a thermal scope, a heart beat dector etc etc. The multiplayer is just as good, though I'm still getting used to the maps. And the addition of special ops is quite cool too, it makes up for the story being quite short, I think's it's fractionally shorter than MW. It's slightly hard to get enthusiastic about because MW is/was such a great game and because of that MW2 isn't a great deal better. I supppose it was just a matter of refining it. It's far better than any of its competitors that I've played eg Killzone2.

Im sick of it lol! I work in a game shop and this is the only game people are buying at the mo. And Ive been told voer 6 thousand people have been banned from XBox LIVE because they recieved their copies early!! Its madness. The amount of merchandise we have just for the game alone is mad! Men up to the age of 40 have been on local radio shows talking about it rofl. Its like the Harry Potter of games!!
