Who here has their car licence and why?

Who here never intends to get it and why?

Has anyone ever had their licence suspended or gotten into any trouble on the roads?

I've had my licence for four and a bit years now. Been on my opens for over a year and I have never had a fine. I don't necessarily believe it's because I'm the best driver out there. I think I've just been lucky to never run into any cops at the wrong time.

Though I am a good driver and always ensure I'm doing the right speed etc etc etc so as to not get a fine.

There have been times when I've done something that I'm glad a copper didn't see but they've been very rare instances.

Anyone have any road stories to share?

Hmmm I've had my licence since I was 18. I got it late and had to buy myself a car to even motivate myself to learn. I'm really glad i did though.

I have these two friends who refuse to drive, they refuse to learn andand get their licence they have to catch the bus everywhere, it seems so inconvenient to me.
Then they try to mooch off me and get me to drive them EVERYWHERE without even offering money for petrol even once. They are the one reason I regret getting my licence.

During my driving years I have had 2 fines, and both were red light fines. I constantly speed and drive with no rego (No I am not proud :() But I haven't been caught yet... I am very lucky haha. (although maybe I have jinxed myself now?) I'd say overall I am a good driver (for a woman ;))

I only got my license around 6 months ago. While I was doing alright without it, I just got fed up having to carefully plan how I would get to places (by walking or public transport). Being able to reduce a 2 hour walk to a 15 minute drive is incredibly convenient. Having a method for transporting heavy/large objects is awesome too.

I try my best to drive safely but I've broken the road laws a few times (purely by accident). Thankfully the police weren't around to see these instances and I haven't caused any accidents. I did get a parking fine a few weeks ago, but that was just a slap on the wrist.

Argh! I had a friend like that!

NEVER offered me fuel money EVER! Always expected me to drive 45 minutes to her house and then drive off to where she wanted to go.

Stopped hanging around her after a while due to her mooching.

I am not a taxi driver dammit!

I could never do that to someone. I always offer fuel money. It's just polite.

I have to pay for rego, insurance, petrol, car payments etc. The least they can do is chip in for petrol when I drive them somewhere.

Here in the States, it's pretty normal that people seek to acquire a license when they turn 16 years old (the youngest you can acqure a license here). The freedom of not having to depend on your parents or public transport (or in some cases, walking) made it a great idea to get it ASAP. Like SaShman said, the convenience of driving is such a big help for the reasons he stated. It's just so much easier to work on your own hours (as opposed to public transport) and you have the freedom to drive wherever you want without restrictions.

And yes, I've had my license since I was 16 as well. Another norm here is driving over the speed limit. Not ridiculously over, but about 10 MPH over or so. Cops in most areas won't pull you over for that. Aside from that, I've been pulled over 3 times for speeding and twice for not wearing a seat-belt. I can go into further detail about the seat-belt law, but that's a thought for another thread. :lew:

I currently don't have a driver's license, as it stands I don't really know how to drive a car. Dad doesn't have the patience to teach me and everybody else is either too busy or just CBA to teach me jack so I'm left walking everywhere because I have to at least walk quite a bit before I get to any means of transportation. Although I'm a bit reluctant to get behind the wheel anyways, lots of nuts driving out there. I honestly feel safer walking.

I have my learners permit, but my mom hasn't been able to dedicate a lot of time to teaching me how to drive. I've actually driven a car like 3 times and the last two times checking the mail was fun.

I can't wait until I'm able to drive to the store across the street and the village market about a mile up the road.:monster:

edit: and yeah, I plan on getting mine because I'm tired of always having to ask my mom to take me places. That, and you know, people usually give you the look in an interview if you don't have your driver's license for some reason. It's fucking absurd.

I don't have License yet, and I have my permit, but I however, can already drive perfectly fine. It's just a matter of time before I go to the DMV and take my road test. I still need to brush up on my Parallel parking, but everything else, I'm very comfortable with.

Though, I fear that friends might hitch a ride from me and all of a sudden, we start going everywhere, without even getting some sort of gas money. Because I've already dropped friends off everywhere before.

I got my license when I was 15 which is the youngest you can get it here, unless you live on a farm or something. I don't know anyone who hasn't got their license, I see absolutely no reason not to get it. Public Transport is fairly shit, and it's fairly big city, only if you live in the very centre is it practical to walk anywhere.
I've had quite a few fines, almost all of them for speeding, almost of all them for speeding, fortunately you don't get demerit points if you get caught by a speed camera. I've also been fined for driving without a registration and for using a priority lane on the motorway.
I've driven when over the limit a coupel of times amongst other things but I've never been caught for that.
I also don't think it's very good for my health as I'm always :rage:ing at people.

I am learning to drive at the moment, got my test in less than 4 weeks :) Can't wait, still looking to buy a car though, I'm really looking forward to the independence.

I've had my license since I was 19. I wanted to get a car so I could drive to college every day. The public transportation systems in all of the cities I've lived in have all been crap. It takes at least two hours to get somewhere that would only take fifteen minutes in a car.

I've had two speeding tickets and three or four tickets for an expired registration. Both of the speeding tickets were for going like 40 in a 25 or something. :lew:

eh, I can't drive.

I want to be able to but I just haven't ever cared to do so until recently. I'm planning on getting one soon, though. I guess I put it off because I never saw a real reason to do so. Not to mention, I tried to drive once with my dad teaching me but something about controlling a big vehicle is really pressuring and nerve-wrecking for me. :/ I know I gotta get over that, but dang it's gonna be one heck of scary ride. xD

ive just never got round to it, it costs far too much, i never seem to have the money or the time and although i want to drive, i dont particlarily mind jumping on a train or a bus. even if i had a car id never drive to manchester anyway, 10 minutes on the train over being stuck in traffic and the one way system and the car parking.... nightmare. made the mistake of driving into town with an ex once, it wasnt worth the hassle, it's be ace for local getting about, but i like trains so i dont mind using them :)

... :lew:

i'm sure most people know about my situation. i was suspended a couple of years ago because of "careless driving". i was clocked at 102 and clocked an average of 103mph over a distance 8 miles, with a top speed of 109. i've reapplied a couple of times but had it denied first "on medical grounds" and the second time really down to a badly worded question on the medical form i have to do.
third time lucky...

I got my driver's licence when I was 16 years old. I do not personally know anyone over the age of 18 that does not have their licence and I knew very few between the ages 16 and 18 who did not have it. Where I live, public transportation is not convienent. It rarely goes into suburban areas and I have never seen a bus other than a school bus in my neighborhood. Public busses are also said to be scary here. We do not have a subway and taxi's are very expensive and the only time I've every seen anyone use on is if they have drank too much.

Though I do take it back. I know one person who can not drive because she had epilepsy and has frequent seizures.

To those without a license and don't plan to get one anytime soon: It's always nice to have one, even if you don't have a car. Not only can you drive if an emergency shows up but it also counts as a form of identification. Plus if someone is willing to let you drive their car you can get from place to place easily without as much of a hassle.

With that being said I have my license and I am glad I got it. I wish I had gotten it sooner though. The requirement here is 18 and I ended up getting my permit when I was nearly 20 and my license when I was nearly 21. It would have made my life so much easier. Like Cali I used to be scared of driving but that's a feeling you'll get over very quickly once you start driving in a busy area.

As for driving friends to different places, I don't mind. Thankfully my friends don't mooch and they're either willing to pay me or treat me to food, both of which I don't mind at all.

I should be going in for my permit in about 6 months. Since we're going to be in Florida, I'll need it to be able to get most places. I'm looking forward to it. My dad is a driving master, so hopefully I've gained some of that from him.

I'll be learning how to drive before my Mom! LOL

I got my licence when I was like... 18?

And I also got my own car :ari: She's such a piece of work but I love her.

I needed a vehicle to drive to get to school and work... Now I just have a vehicle... :lew: Funny how things work out...

i havent learned to drive yet but i think 2013 is a good year to learn. i will also have to take up zen meditation because the road rage will drive my blood pressure up super high and my head will probably explode.

public transport is shithouse.

I went to get my license on my 16th birthday. The freedom of being able to go wherever was nice but the price of the insurance and driving a shite car was not for awhile :hmph:

I don't know anyone who doesn't drive. Driving here is a must since we live in a small town and usually need to be able to commute to our jobs in the neighboring cities and etc.
