This is full of spoilers, you have already been warned. If you've entered and you haven't played then consider this your second warning and enter at your own risk

I only really scanned the first page of posts for this topic, and they are looking pretty old as well so hopefully this isnt a repeat

Anyway, i have a question, well, two questions. Ive not played the After years despite owning it when i got the psp version years back (i think it was the psp, either that or the ds)

ANYWAY im waffling

Is Cecil immortal? I'm assuming he either is or is like Aragorn from LoTR and has a longer life expectancy than regular guys? Do we suppose KluYa's soul is just trapped on Mt. Ordeals forever? I kinda wish there was more backstory to that and Golbez, i remember there was stuff added in the DS version to flesh that out and its been so long i don't remember any of it. But the original, there was no real explanation with what happened around the whole family set up/deaths of their parents. Though i suppose it would be safe to assume Zemus took control of Golbez very early on. Surpised he didn't kill Cecil as a baby, though maybe Zemus wanted a back up half Lunarian. AND should it have been possible to control Kain as well, or was that Golbez doing it as an extension of Zemus

Also, where did the moon zip off to at the end, considering the plan was eventually to coexist on earth with humans? Are the brothers ever likely to meet again? Golbez going into a longass slumber is what's making me question Cecil's mortality. Like, wouldnt he just eventually die in his sleep or is there some mojo the Lunarians can use to make him immortal or whatever?

This is such a good game, and i absolutely love it, and one I really hope they will properly visit in the future

Edit* that was far more than two questions lol

Very good questions.

It has been ages since I last actually played FFIV, but I'll do my best. Others might want to chime in who know more.

The pure-blooded Lunarians do appear to have extraordinarily long lifespans, if not immortality. Most of the Lunarians go to sleep on their moon, but it would seem that maybe they didn't need to do that since Fusoya stays awake to guard them and appears to be somewhat immortal. Yeah, he becomes a very old man with hairy caterpillar eyebrows, but he isn't dead. Maybe it is through a sort of immortality magic that Fusoya keeps himself going (like the Templar Knight in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade), if it isn't a natural thing for Lunarians.

Kluya (Cecil and Golbez' dad) is apparently the brother of Fusoya, so must presumably be his contemporary, which means that Kluya must have been fairly old before he died (and then his spirit lingered), or was born very, very late in Fusoya's lifetime.

But what of Cecil and Golbez? Being half-bloods, we are probably in unknown territory with regards to the length of the lifespans of those hybrids. Both Cecil and Golbez still look quite youthful in After Years (which I haven't played, but have seen artwork and screenshots of them). Seems like they haven't aged too harshly. Maybe they have a longer lifespan than a regular human.

To take your Lord of the Rings analogy, perhaps pure-blooded Lunarians are akin to elves (immortal, or especially so in certain areas, but not invulnerable), whereas maybe the half-blooded Lunarian-human hybrids are more like Aragorn and the Numenoreans where they can be considered mortal but still live ridiculously long lives relative to us.

No idea where the Lunarians took the moon. It is a vessel to traverse the cosmos in, like a spaceship, so possibly to find a nice restaurant at the edge of the universe.

Ive been waiting DAYS for your response 🤣🤣 i think there's a load of unanswered questions with 4 that I guess at the time with the technology available there just wasnt space to explore that further. I may have to dig out my psp and revsist the game there as well as play the after years, not sure why i never got round to playing it to be honest, maybe that game holds some answers. Would be nice for the game to get revistited though, im currently playing through the pixel remasters in order and playing 5 so its reigniting all my curiosity toward the older games. I think 4 for me, whilst i absolutely love it, feels the most incomplete (though id be tempted to add 8 to that list as wel in terms of back story to sorceresses and hine etc)
