So out of the 14 playable characters...are there any that you don't particularly like playing as? (Not because of personality but because of play style).

I can't really stand Cinque so far. Why pick a weapon you can barely pick up as your main one? It's a little annoying as I can't seem to land a hit. Not a fan of Deuce either (still can't seem to figure out what she's supposed to do lol), but she's good for support. I just would rather not control her character. Jack is also a little too slow for me, but I've only tried him once. Maybe I'm just not used to his play style yet, but it was a little frustrating last I tried.

For the most part I enjoy each character, but I definitely have my reserves sorted in order of most to least preferred (and also in groups of three, so I always have a balanced party no matter who I lose--protip!), with Trey, Jack, and Machina as my bottom three. Rem moves around but generally stays towards the bottom unless I just feel like using her for whatever reason. Trey has potential as a ranged fighter of course, but I just find his bow and arrow completely unable to compete with the faster/stronger firearms of some other characters. Jack and Machina are both alright but both have moves that are a little slow to execute, so while I can manage with them I don't main with them.

I actually do use Cinque on occasion. You really have to anticipate with her and keep a solid BOM magic on hand in case your timing is off and you need a plan B at the last second, but if you learn the rhythm she can deal major damage. A worthy trade IMO.

Cinque - slow in a game that is fast
Trey, Deuce - require too much hardcasting (standing still)

for everyone else it's just a matter of not being a visually appealing character and/or not specializing in traits i have preference in

like Queen is a very solid character, but for some reason i just don't like her very much. i thought i was going to like Jack (like literally more than 60% of his kills are killstrikes on my record lol) but he is really slow and the targeting is too clumsy to be fun playing as Jack. His voice is also very disorienting.

i didnt enjoy deuce at first, but i love her now she is levelled up! she can do some decent group damage with that flute!

still dont like playing as jack or cinque, just too annoyingly slow

king and his reloading gets abit annoying too

Really have to agree on Cinque there, she is just far to slow for my taste. Other then that I haven't found out others ones that I dislike playing as. I think it's Seven who uses the chain whip and the other one who uses the scythe, I like them but at the moment having a hard time getting down their rhythm.

I'm mostly content with my characters, as you learn to play with each character. For example I thought Deuce sucked, and once I really spent a little time to play her I realized she was really good actually!

I'd say I dislike playing as Sice. With her weapon and attitude, I tried playing as her a few times but unfortunately she just misses a lot with her hits. This especially holds true for the Critical Hits.

Jack. Hands down. The guy is as slow as fu... yeah you get the picture. Having to draw and sheath his sword every two seconds is the pits. His walking speed even without his sword drawn is still painful. Yes, there is a high enough Killstrike ratio with this guy, but let's face it, you were totally going for the first Killstrike but by the time he got around to it the second strike popped up. Lucky duck. :brooding:

You have to constantly evade with him. That almost remedies the movement problem fully.

Agreed, but that's a bit of a strange mechanic don't you think? In order to move at a semi-decent pace you need to dodge? It just feels and looks weird. At one end of the spectrum we have Cater, whose movement is impeccable. Her evasive maneuver looks natural and it blends well with her overall flow. Jack's on the other hand doesn't have the same seamless quality, not by a long shot. He's cumbersome and awkward unless he's dodging and even then it looks like a halting lurch. Not as impressive, but that's just my impression though.

Having said that, I still play as Jack and don't mind leveling him up. On the whole I love the game, and don't find the mechanics of Jack that big a draw back, just not my favourite.

I don't find it to be a strange mechanic. I think some people evade with any character they are playing with solo later on anyway to progress through levels quicker. Cater has some drawbacks. Typically it takes time for her shots to reach a high damage output, which is something Jack doesn't have to concern himself with. Jack is just more tanky than Cater imo when it comes to taking damage. Since Jack is in melee range typically, he's able to take advantage of killsights easier imo. The only time that doesn't work in his favor would be if a target can only be hit with ranged attacks during certain segments.

Fair enough. I would still be a lot more confident going in against the likes of Gilgamesh or those freaks (e.g. Akkad) with Cater, Ace or even Nine or King than with Jack. I prefer the diversity in tactics and safety net that these characters offer. Different strokes and all that jazz, I tend to prefer quick ranged character/classes in games anyway. Hence the struggle with Jack as I don't feel as comfortable with the play style.

This is completely understandable. I do personally find Ace to be one of the best characters in the game not only combat wise, but also development wise from a story outlook at well.

Deuce, Cinque, Jack and Machina are the ones I prefer the least.

Deuce - It's too hard to do damage with the speed of the little firefly thing and have the ability to evade when needed. And in whole, doesn't do nearly as much damage with physical attacks.

Cinque - Too hard to time her mace swings for breaksights and killsights. Lots of power, which I love, but so slow in a battle environment dependent on speed.

Jack - Mostly the same as Cinque. He can counterattack though, which helps with the timing of sights hits/kills.

Machina - Nothing really with his battle ability or skills, but I found that when I was going to dedicate more time to him,
he would "disappear" for the time being
.

I see exactly what you mean with Deuce but she is much more of a defensive player to swap into for the times in which it is absolutely imperative to take advantage if her buffs or more evasive play style. I was more of the same mind as yourself when I first started playing Type-0 but as the game progressed her uses outweighed my trepidation and I found that she can be an absolute godsend when push comes to shove. It's totally down to personal preference of course but I just thought to mention that a slight altering of game plan might (no guarantees mind :lew:) make her more tolerable to you!

Although I was just about able to handle Cinque's mechanics I can 100% feel the pain of that epic slow swing. There's no way to make either her or Jack feel like fun. None. It always feels like work and struggle :olivia:
