A lonely soul
I think I choose characters that I like the most, that's what I did in Final Fantasy VIII. I always chose Rinoa and Zell to go alongside Squall through out the whole game. There were obviously some parts where I couldn't choose them so I had to pick another character but those two were my main choice, always! In VII I mix it up a little because I like most of the characters in it plus I like mixing it up a little. I do usually pick characters who I like the most first out of all of them.
