Why do you think in almost every FF game there's always a Cid?And not only in the FF series. Those who have played Chocobo Racing know that there's a Cid who trains Chocobo.

Why not? You always need a transport, and more often than not there is an engineer ready and willing to make /give you one. Why not have one unamionous Name theme for them all? After a while the name starts to become mainstream. Weather he is an engineer or not doesn't matter. For example, in FFT Cidolfas Orlandu is a battle hardened 'god' among men. He may be a Cid, but he isn't an engineer. But with out him, the game would be missing something. Something dear and important to Final Fantasy -- a Cid.

Cid is one of the things that tie all of FF together. in FFT cid is a god, and in a few games he is a brilliant engineer, and in a few others he is a playable character, such as 7 and 4. Cid has done many things, and it all holds FF together as one unamious series.

Square is crazy about memes.

If you think about it, each of the games don't relate story-wise, so it's a good idea to have a few recurring features. One thing to look forward to in a new FF game is what role Cid will take.

Although it'd kinda predictable by now that they'll turn out as good guys like in VI and XII.

so lets expand on it. is cid in all the games? which ones does he not make an appearance?

also, how bout biggs and wedge? although an obvious star wars reference, why make it? why reference star wars? also, which games do they make an appearance? i believe the first one was final fantasy VI. I believe they're also in Final fantasy VII. anywhere else?

include the chrono series as well as FFTactics for those of you with good memories and can remember this stuff.

(haven't played FFI through FFIV or chrono trigger. Also haven't played some of em in a long while. so help me refresh my memory)

It's star trek:P

Anyway, Biggs and wedge are in every game too I think. They don't always appear together though.
I think it's just a star trek reference from the creators because they like star trek.

Because hiz saxy :P.

Wedge and Biggs i think are in every game. Didn't see them in XII though. But in FFX I has him on my Blitzball Team >.>.

I remember seeing a picture some where of the evolution of Cid...

I don't know most likely he's the flying dude or science >.> it's just like why Biggs and Wedge in many FF games too >.>

Wedge and Biggs ARE a reference from Star Wars. Not Star Trek.

Wedge Antilles and Biggs Darklighter (I think) were X-Wing pilots and took part in the battle against the Death Star in Star Wars, among other things I beleive.

In FF, FFVI was their first appearance, a game that has many other notable Star Wars references, such as the Empire resembling Stormtroopers, and some of the quotes within it. For example Celes saying to Locke while he is dressed as in Imperial soldier uniform "Aren't you a little short for an Imperial trooper?", similar to a quote from Star Wars.
Wedge and Biggs later appeared in FFVII, FFVIII, and I think several other appearances but none as significant as FFVI-FFVIII.

Cid on the other hand appears in almost every game. Traditions like this help keep the franchise together IMO.

Cid has been in every FF game I've played, FFIII, FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX, FFX, and FFXII, in my opinion it is one of the many things that keeps the FF Series together, I'm sure there will be a Cid in FFXIII, I will be shocked if there isn't.

And dude, square love their star wars :D

They sure do. FF12 had a very Star Wars look to it.... Star Wars mixed with a very Turkish/Arabic look to it... Mixed again with the usual European elements that the Japanese try to emulate... One weird game!

What about in FFXII where there were 2 cid's?

Al-Cid and Cid? lmao.

I didn't notice a biggs and wedge in FFXII though. >__<;; Awh.

But, Cid is a trademark character of the FF series. Along with Chocobos and Moogles. lol.

chocobos and moogles are like part of the trademarks of FF. chocobos are technically the horses of FF, and moogles are uhm, well i can't think of a reference of everyday life i can connect moogles to. also, another trademark of FF would be the fact that they use airships.

And flyable airships until, ummm, FFX came along.

Ah well, hopefully flyable airships will return in the future, along with the world map.

Postmen? :D Well on FFIX and FFIII that is what they are useful for haha.

And I have no idea why they named that Rozzarian hunk Al-Cid, maybe they ran out of decent names? I mean they're naming the girl on FFXIII lightning for gods sake, what is that all about?

yea lol there are alot, but one star wars reference example sticks out in my mind, probably because i just replayed FFIX.

Before you fight Necron, and he does his cliche speech before the battle he says,
"All life bears death from birth."
"Life fears death, but lives only to die."
"It starts with anxiety."
"Anxiety becomes fear."
"Fear leads to anger... anger leads to hate... hate leads to suffering..."
"The only cure for this fear is total destruction."

thats straight outta yodas mouth lol

Cid made his debut in FFII. So did chocobos.

airships have been around since FFI

moogles made their first appearance in FFIV or FFV, can't quite remember.

And i think summons first showed up in FFIV.

Let me know if i'm wrong at all. I'm writing this mostly from memory.

FWIW, Wedge and Biggs are the grey and blue guards on either side of the entrance to Luca Stadium in FFX. They're not significant, but they can be a PITA if another team drafts them for blitzball.

Other things that run through most games are Masamune and Murasame (sp), right? Did they show up before Sephiroth started impaling people?

Also somebody with an eyepatch or missing eye, but I think that's more a function of recurring archetypes than direct intent.
